Background: Right ventricular failure (RVF) is a leading driver of morbidity and death after major cardiac surgery for advanced heart failure, including orthotopic heart transplantation and left ventricular assist device implantation. Inhaled pulmonary-selective vasodilators, such as inhaled epoprostenol (iEPO) and nitric oxide (iNO), are essential therapeutics for the prevention and medical management of postoperative RVF. However, there is limited evidence from clinical trials to guide agent selection despite the significant cost considerations of iNO therapy.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Content in the 3 Ps in Nurse Practitioner Education.

Background: Nurse practitioners (NPs) in primary care provide sexual and reproductive health care, an integral component of health and well-being. This study explored the degree of inclusion of sexual and reproductive health content in the foundational courses in NP preparation including advanced health assessment, advanced physiology and pathophysiology, and advanced pharmacology, known as the 3 Ps.

Method: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 30 NPs in their first 2 years of practice.

Chain-Growth Sulfur(VI) Fluoride Exchange Polycondensation: Molecular Weight Control and Synthesis of Degradable Polysulfates.

Sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry has offered a facile and reliable approach to produce polysulfates and polysulfonates. However, the current SuFEx polymerization methods lack precise control of target molecular weight and dispersity. Herein, we report the first chain-growth SuFEx polycondensation process by exploiting the unique reactivity and selectivity of S-F bonds under SuFEx catalysis.

Inhaled Pulmonary Vasodilator Therapy in Adult Lung Transplant: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) is commonly administered for selectively inhaled pulmonary vasodilation and prevention of oxidative injury after lung transplant (LT). Inhaled epoprostenol (iEPO) has been introduced worldwide as a cost-saving alternative to iNO without high-grade evidence for this indication.

Objective: To investigate whether the use of iEPO will lead to similar rates of severe/grade 3 primary graft dysfunction (PGD-3) after adult LT when compared with use of iNO.

Objectives: Hypothermia on intensive care unit (ICU) admission after cardiac surgery and cardiopulmonary bypass is common. It contributes to postoperative complications including shivering, coagulopathy, increased blood loss and transfusion requirements, morbid cardiac events, metabolic acidosis, increased wound infections, and prolonged hospital length of stay. The current standard of care for rewarming ICU patients is forced air warming blankets.

Identification of simple arylfluorosulfates as potent agents against resistant bacteria.

Sulfur fluoride exchange (SuFEx), a next generation of click chemistry, opens an avenue for drug discovery. We report here the discovery and structure-activity relationship studies of a series of arylfluorosulfates, synthesized via SuFEx, as antibacterial agents. Arylfluorosulfates 3, 81, and 101 showed potency to overcome multidrug resistance and were not susceptible to the generation of resistance.

Rapid Ventilator Splitting During COVID-19 Pandemic Using 3D Printed Devices and Numerical Modeling of 200 Million Patient Specific Air Flow Scenarios.

There has been a pressing need for an expansion of the ventilator capacity in response to the recent COVID19 pandemic. To address this need, we present a system to enable rapid and efficacious splitting between two or more patients with varying lung compliances and tidal volume requirements. Reserved for dire situations, ventilator splitting is complex, and has been limited to patients with similar pulmonary compliances and tidal volume requirements.

Sulfur(VI) Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx)-Enabled High-Throughput Medicinal Chemistry.

Optimization of small-molecule probes or drugs is a synthetically lengthy, challenging, and resource-intensive process. Lack of automation and reliance on skilled medicinal chemists is cumbersome in both academic and industrial settings. Here, we demonstrate a high-throughput hit-to-lead process based on the biocompatible sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry.

Sexual and reproductive health content in nurse practitioner transition to practice training programs.

Objective: To describe the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) offerings of transition to practice training programs for certified primary care nurse practitioners in the United States.

Study Design: Program Directors from all identified primary care training programs ( = 51) were invited to participate in an online survey to assess the SRH didactic and clinical offerings based on competencies developed by the World Health Organization and adapted for the US across 15 domains and 15 related procedures.

Results: Twenty-two (43%) surveys were completed.

Objective: To examine whether and to what extent pre-licensure nursing programs include sexual and reproductive health (SRH) content in their curricula.

Data Sources: Electronic databases, including CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Google Scholar, ProQuest, and CAB Direct were searched for relevant literature. We also reviewed the reference lists of all studies, nursing organization Web sites, and the personal files of the authors.

The Annual Gynecologic Examination Updated for the 21st Century.

The concept of an annual gynecologic screening visit to identify disease at an early stage has long been an established component of women's health care. Women and their health care providers have historically accepted the schedule of an annual gynecologic examination with cervical cancer screening and a pelvic examination. Recently, researchers questioned the value of the annual breast and pelvic examinations in asymptomatic women and re-established the intervals for Pap test screening with the addition of human papillomavirus co-testing to establish cervical cancer risk.

Core competencies in sexual and reproductive health for the interprofessional primary care team.

Objective: A primary care workforce that is well prepared to provide high-quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care has the potential to enhance access to care and reduce health disparities. This project aimed to identify core competencies to guide SRH training across the primary care professions.

The SEARCH Project: Acquainting Students in the Health Professions with Interprofessional Care.

The SEARCH NH project (Student Experiences and Rotations in Community Health in New Hampshire) was a 3-year collaboration of the New Hampshire Area Health Education Center, four educational institutions, and four community health centers. The purpose was to introduce students in the health professions to interprofessional care in underserved areas. It was funded by the National Health Services Corps.

Analysis of radial artery catheter placement by respiratory therapists using ultrasound guidance.

Background: The use of ultrasound (US) guidance for radial artery cannulation has been shown to improve first attempt success rate, reduce time to successful cannulation, and reduce complications. We sought to determine whether properly trained respiratory therapists (RTs) could utilize US guidance for the placement of radial artery catheters. Primary outcome measurements were successful cannulation and first attempt success rate.
