Background: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown remarkable clinical efficacy, they can also induce a paradoxical cancer acceleration, known as hyperprogressive disease (HPD), whose causative mechanisms are still unclear.
Methods: This study investigated the mechanisms of ICI resistance in an HPD-NSCLC model.
Antibodies directed against surface antigens of tumor cells are commonly found in sera of cancer patients and of oncological animal models. Polyclonal antibodies directed against various epitopes of the same antigen may be spontaneously elicited by tumor antigens or may result from the administration of specific vaccines and other immunostimulating treatments. Furthermore, after therapeutic administration of monoclonal antibodies, the antibody will be detectable in the bloodstream for several weeks.

If these components are found, they can be modelled univariately. Blind source separation aims to recover the latent components by estimating the unknown linear or nonlinear unmixing transformation based on the observed data only.

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) can modify the composition of plant proteins, modulate its functionality, and enhance the sensory aspects.

The Homerton Anogenital Neoplasia Service (HANS) is a highly specialised tertiary centre where high resolution anoscopy (HRA) is performed to diagnose and treat anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN), a precursor to cancer. In some cases, aSCC (here defined as anal canal cancers and perianal cancers up to 5cm from the anal verge) is found on referral for AIN; in others, aSCC may develop while undergoing AIN management.

Consequently, it exerts detrimental effects on a part of the worldwide population who are afflicted with celiac disease (1%) or related disorders (5%), particularly due to the potential for cross-contamination even when adhering to a gluten-free diet (GFD). Finding solutions to break down gluten during digestion has a high nutritional and social impact.

While hearing-aid (HA) partially compensates for SHL, speech perception abilities often continue to remain poor, resulting in consequences in everyday activities. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) promotes cortical network plasticity and may enhance language comprehension in SHL patients.

While several prophylactic vaccines for virus-caused cancers are approved and efficiently used worldwide, the development of therapeutic cancer vaccines needs to be further implemented. Virus-like particles (VLPs) are self-assembled protein structures that mimic native viruses or bacteriophages but lack the replicative material.

In particular, radon flux data which are of high interest to monitor greenhouse gas emissions and to assess human exposure to indoor radon are determined by the deposit of uranium and radio (precursor elements). Furthermore, they are also affected by various atmospheric variables, such as humidity, temperature, precipitation and evapotranspiration.

The survival capability of all the isolates under harsh gastrointestinal tract conditions was evaluated, in which only 44 strains, named high-resistant, were selected for further food digestibility investigations. All 44 strains hydrolyzed raffinose and exhibited amino and iminopeptidase activities but at various extents, confirming species- and strain-specificity.

Nomadic lactobacilli (95 strains), mostly isolated from food sources, were preliminarily screened for functional traits before being characterized for their capability to inhibit the two vaginal pathogens Streptococcus agalactiae and Candida albicans, which may lead to adverse pregnancy-related outcomes. Eight best-performing strains were chosen and furtherly investigated for their ability to produce biofilm.

Contemporary defaunation has reduced food web complexity, but simplification caused by past defaunation is difficult to reconstruct given the sparse paleorecord of predator-prey interactions. We identified changes to terrestrial mammal food webs globally over the past ~130,000 years using extinct and extant mammal traits, geographic ranges, observed predator-prey interactions, and deep learning models.

The neutron test campaigns on the SiC power MOSFETs (manufactered by ST) were conducted on the same wafer lot devices by STMicroelectronics and Airbus, with different neutron tester systems. HTGB and HTRB tests, which characterise gate-oxide integrity and junction robustness, show no difference between the non irradiated devices and those which survived to the neutron irradiation tests, with neutron fluence up to 2× 1011 (n/cm2).

Identifying how phenological shifts affect performance is critical for understanding how individuals and populations will respond to climate change, but requires long-term, longitudinal data. Objective: To conduct a meta-analysis evaluating the prevalence of anal high-risk HPV, high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and SCC in patients with condylomas. The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) and the incidence rate of anal SCC were also calculated.

Anal squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of anal cancer and is largely associated with anal human papillomavirus infection. The incidence of anal squamous cell carcinoma is increasing, and although still uncommon in the general population, a high incidence has been noted in specific population groups (eg, patients with HIV, men who have sex with men [MSM], recipients of solid organ transplants, women with genital neoplasia, and patients with systemic lupus erythematosus or inflammatory bowel disease). The higher incidence among individuals who are HIV-positive makes anal squamous cell carcinoma one of the most common non-AIDS-defining cancers among HIV-positive individuals.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of the Homerton Anogenital Neoplasia Service records from January 2012 to March 2017, to identify all new referrals of women with previous anogenital neoplasia, who had had at least one complete examination of all anogenital sites. Multizonal anogenital disease (MZD) was defined as the presence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL)/carcinoma concurrently at two or more of the following sites/zones: perianus, anal canal, vulva, vagina or cervix.
Background: The aim of the present study was to compare clinical and electrocardiographic characteristics of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia in Modena, Emilia Romagna, Italy.
Methods: Patients admitted to the emergency department for suspected COVID-19 pneumonia from March the 16th to April the 15th were enrolled in the study. COVID-19 pneumonia was confirmed by positive nasopharyngeal swab.
Background: Local recurrence is a significant risk after anal squamous cell carcinoma.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the occurrence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions and local recurrence after anal cancer at surveillance with high-resolution anoscopy.
Design: This is a retrospective observational study.
In the early 1990s, several studies reported the misuse of codeine and promethazine hydrochloride cough syrup. Since then, the combination of this pharmaceutical, together with sprite or alcohol, known on the streets as "purple drank" or "lean", has become a popular drug among rap singers who promote its tranquilizing and euphoric effects through their music and videos. This review examines the "purple drank" phenomenon, taking into consideration its clinical and social implications.
