The potential use of edible insects as an alternative animal protein source has recently attracted a great deal of attention in Western countries. This is thanks to their numerous nutritional benefits, in particular in terms of vitamins and essential amino acids, and the need to guarantee food availability for the growing population. The aim of this scoping review is to analyse the current literature published in scientific journals regarding the main issues related to products containing edible insects, to map existing evidence and identify knowledge gaps.

The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) is a detector array comprised by 988 5  cm×5  cm×5  cm TeO_{2} crystals held below 20 mK, primarily searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay in ^{130}Te. Unprecedented in size among cryogenic calorimetric experiments, CUORE provides a promising setting for the study of exotic throughgoing particles. Using the first tonne year of CUORE's exposure, we perform a search for hypothesized fractionally charged particles (FCPs), which are well-motivated by various standard model extensions and would have suppressed interactions with matter.

Background/objective: To determine if anti-RA33 antibodies, which can be seen in early forms of inflammatory arthritis, are present in patients with Lyme arthritis (LA).

Methods: Anti-RA33 antibodies were tested using a commercially available assay in patients with LA (n = 47) and compared with patients with erythema migrans who returned to health (EM RTH, n = 20) and those with post-treatment Lyme disease (PTLD) (n = 50), characterized by noninflammatory arthralgia, as an observational comparative study utilizing Lyme-exposed patients from various original cohorts.

Results: We found that anti-RA33 was present in higher proportions of patients with LA (23.

Article Synopsis
  • Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) pose significant risks for patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), highlighting the need to identify patients at higher risk and develop strategies to manage these complications.
  • An observational study involving 111 patients found that 40.5% experienced symptomatic irAEs, with higher rates linked to combination ICI therapy and pre-existing autoimmune disorders.
  • Early increases in specific cytokines and T helper cell populations were associated with developing severe irAEs, indicating potential biomarkers for monitoring and targeting therapeutic interventions.

Purpose: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary brain cancer in adults with a very poor prognosis. Metabolic drivers of tumorigenesis are highly relevant within the central nervous system, where glucose is the critical source of energy. The impact of obesity on survival outcomes in patients with GBM is not well established.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized cancer treatment but can trigger immune-related encephalitis. We report one of the largest case series of patients with immune-related encephalitis and review of the literature.

Methods: Retrospective series of patients with immune-related encephalitis and literature review.

Article Synopsis
  • Local treatment options for recurrence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma are limited, with median survival times of 9-13 months, but MRI-guided stereotactic body radiation therapy (MRgSBRT) may improve outcomes by allowing higher radiation doses while protecting normal tissue.
  • In a study involving 15 patients treated with MRgSBRT, the median overall survival after recurrence was 14.1 months, with local control rates of 92.3% and 83.9% at 6 and 12 months, respectively.
  • The treatment showed manageable side effects, with 47% experiencing mild acute gastrointestinal toxicity and 31% facing chronic gastrointestinal issues, but no severe

Introduction: Iodine-125 (I-125) seeds, commonly used in low-dose rate brachytherapy for ocular malignancies, are often discarded after a single use. This study examines the potential cost savings at an institution with high ocular melanoma referrals, by re-using I-125 seeds for eye-plaque brachytherapy.

Methods: In this single-institutional retrospective analysis, data was collected from I-125 seed orders from 8/2019 through 10/2022.

Objective: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapies have dramatically improved outcomes in multiple cancers. ICI's mechanism of action involves immune system activation to augment anti-tumor immunity. Patients with pre-existing autoimmune diseases, such as systemic sclerosis (SSc), were excluded from initial ICI clinical trials due to concern that such immune system activation could precipitate an autoimmune disease flare or new, severe immune related adverse events (irAE).

Objective: Treatment of craniopharyngioma typically entails gross total resection (GTR) or subtotal resection with adjuvant radiation (STR-RT). We analyzed outcomes in adults with craniopharyngioma undergoing GTR versus STR-RT.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 115 patients with craniopharyngioma in 5 institutions.

The introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has changed the landscape of the treatment of cancer. Several immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have now been described such as ICI-inflammatory arthritis (IA), sicca syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica, myositis, and vasculitis as a consequence of immune activation. The onset of the ICI-IA can vary from after the first infusion of ICIs to a delayed presentation a year or more after ICI initiation.

With an increasing number of patients eligible for immune checkpoint inhibitors, the incidence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) is on the rise. Dermatologic immune-related adverse events (D-irAEs) are the most common and earliest to manifest, often with important downstream consequences for the patient. Current guidelines lack clarity in terms of diagnostic criteria for D-irAEs.

Article Synopsis
  • Radiation treatment has become the preferred option for uveal melanoma, moving away from the more invasive enucleation approach; a new frameless LINAC solution for fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (fSRS) was developed to preserve the eye.
  • A unique ocular localization box was created featuring adjustable LED lights for patient focus, eye position monitoring with a CCD camera, and tools to track eye movement, ensuring targeted and effective treatment sessions.
  • Initial trials with 10 patients showed that the localization box was effective and well-tolerated, yielding high accuracy for positioning with minimal setup errors, paving the way for future trials to further assess its effectiveness and consistency in various settings.*

The circadian system, a vital temporal regulator influencing physiological processes, has implications for cancer development and treatment response. Our study assessed circadian timing's impact on whole-brain radiotherapy outcomes in brain metastases for personalized cancer therapy insights. The aim of the study was to evaluate circadian influence on radiation treatment timing and its correlation with clinical outcomes and to identify patient populations benefiting from interventions synchronizing circadian rhythms, considering subgroup differences and potential disparities.

Background: Tumor regression following immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is often associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs), marked by inflammation in non-cancerous tissues. This study was undertaken to investigate the functional relationship between anti-tumor and anti-self immunity, to facilitate irAE management while promoting anti-tumor immunity.

Methods: Multiple biopsies from tumor and inflamed tissues were collected from a patient with melanoma experiencing both tumor regression and irAEs on ICB, who underwent rapid autopsy.

Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment has become an important therapeutic option for various cancer types. Although the treatment is effective, ICI can overstimulate the patient's immune system, leading to potentially severe immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including hepatitis, colitis, pneumonitis and myocarditis. The initial mainstay of treatments includes the administration of corticosteroids.

Article Synopsis
  • Gliomatosis cerebri (GC) is a rare and aggressive brain tumor that affects multiple lobes and is associated with a poorer prognosis compared to other gliomas, despite being classified differently under new WHO guidelines.
  • The case study describes a 64-year-old male with GBM and extensive GC who responded well to treatment with tumor-treating fields (TTFields) combined with radiation and chemotherapy, showing significant improvement in his condition shortly after treatment.
  • Though his glioma recurred 11 months after surgery, the aggressive GC remained under control, leading to a progression-free survival of 11 months and an overall survival of 17 months before his passing.
