A Call for Diversity: Underrepresented Minorities and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship Education.

This paper is the first of a four-part series that details the current barriers to diversity in the field of adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology and outlines actionable programs that can be implemented to create change. Part I and Part II address the training experience of women and underrepresented minorities (URMs) in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology (ACTA), respectively, and explore concrete opportunities to promote positive change. Part III and Part IV examine the professional experience of URMs and women in ACTA, respectively, and discuss interventions that can facilitate a more equitable and inclusive environment for both groups.

Impacts of Highway Runoff on Metal Contamination Including Rare Earth Elements in a Small Urban Watershed: Case Study of Bordeaux Metropole (SW France).

High temporal resolution sampling of runoff (15 samples/4 h) and river water (24 samples/24 h) was performed during a major rainstorm (41 mm/4 h) in the Bordeaux Metropole, after a dry and high vehicle-density period. Runoff was sampled at the outlet of one collector draining Northern Bordeaux Highway (NBH; 80,000-93,000 vehicles/day) and river water in the downstream Jalle River. The studied metals, including priority and emergent (Rare Earth Elements [REEs]) contaminants, showed major temporal and spatial variations in the dissolved and particulate concentrations.

The Program Evaluation Committee has an essential role in the quality improvement process of the adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship. The annual program evaluation presents all stakeholders with an opportunity to evolve with the changing needs and opportunities of the fellowship milieu. The active engagement of the program in this process is a high-quality approach to successful planning, preparation and conduct of the self-study and site visit that are important extensions of the annual program evaluation and the program evaluation committee.

Fate of antibiotics present in a primary sludge of WWTP during their co-composting with palm wastes.

Antibiotics persistence in the primary sludge can contribute to the emergence of these molecules in the environment and limit the agricultural recycling of sludge without any preliminary treatment. Composting is a widely used process for recycling sludges and then can contribute to the antibiotics removal. However, little interest is actually given to the evaluation of the persistence of some antibiotics families after the sludge co-composting and more particularly to the final compost valorization.
