The electrochemical sulfion oxidation reaction (SOR) is highly desirable to treat sulfion-rich wastewater and achieve energy-saving hydrogen production when coupled with the cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we propose a thermodynamically favorable SOR to couple with the HER, and develop vanadium-doped nickel phosphide (V-NiP) nanosheets for simultaneously achieving energy-efficient hydrogen production and sulfur recovery. V doping can efficiently adjust the electronic structure and improve intrinsic activity of NiP, which exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic performances for the HER and SOR with low potentials of -0.

Article Synopsis
  • - On October 9, 2022, LHAASO detected a significant afterglow from the gamma-ray burst 221009A, achieving record photon statistics in the TeV energy range.
  • - This observation allowed researchers to test the idea of Lorentz invariance violation (LIV), which is related to faster-than-light travel predictions in some quantum gravity theories.
  • - The study established that the energy scales for LIV effects are significantly higher than previously thought, with new lower limits being 10 times the Planck energy for linear effects and 6×10^{-8} times the Planck energy for quadratic effects, improving earlier constraints by 5-7 times.

In this Letter we try to search for signals generated by ultraheavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible γ rays by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of the LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter that have low fluxes of astrophysical γ-ray background while having large amount of dark matter.

It is unclear whether metabolic health corresponds to reduced oncogenesis or vice versa. We study Tudor-interacting repair regulator (TIRR), an inhibitor of p53 binding protein 1 (53BP1)-mediated p53 activation, and the physiological consequences of enhancing tumor suppressor activity. Deleting TIRR selectively activates p53, significantly protecting against cancer but leading to a systemic metabolic imbalance in mice.

Plant breeders are generally reluctant to cross elite crop cultivars with their wild relatives to introgress novel desirable traits due to associated negative traits such as pod shattering. This results in a genetic bottleneck that could be reduced through better understanding of the genomic locations of the gene(s) controlling this trait. We integrated information on parental genomes, pod shattering data from multiple environments, and high-density genetic linkage maps to identify pod shattering quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in three lentil interspecific recombinant inbred line populations.

Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) plays a pivotal role in the development of pancreatic cancer, and its phosphorylation has previously been linked to the regulation of NUAK2. However, the regulatory connection between NF-κB and NUAK2, as well as NUAK2's role in pancreatic cancer, remains unclear. In this study, we observed that inhibiting NUAK2 impeded the proliferation, migration, and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells while triggering apoptosis.

Alginate lyase Aly448, a potential new member of the polysaccharide lyase (PL) 7 family, which was cloned and identified from the macroalgae-associated bacterial metagenomic library, showed bifunctionality. The molecular docking results revealed that Aly448 has two completely different binding sites for alginate (polyMG), poly-α-l-guluronic acid (polyG), and poly-β-d-mannuronic acid (polyM) substrates, respectively, which might be the molecular basis for the enzyme's bifunctionality. Truncational results confirmed that predicted key residues affected the bifunctionality of Aly448, but did not wholly explain.

In China's cold region water conservancy and hydropower projects, the contact interface between the dam and the reservoir bank rock is prone to cracking under external loading and freeze-thaw action, which may lead to dam-bank failure and damage and cause engineering disasters. The NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) tests and uniaxial compression tests of concrete, sandstone, and sandstone-concrete composite after different numbers of freeze-thaw cycles were carried out to analyze the pore structure development and uniaxial compression mechanical properties of the three types of specimens under different numbers of freeze-thaw cycles. The results show that freeze-thaw cycling promotes the development of pores in sandstone and concrete, and sandstone is more sensitive to low-temperature freeze-thaw than concrete.
