NO-N transformation, the vital biological process, determines nitrogen removal and retention in aquatic environment. Suspended sediment (SPS) ubiquitous in freshwater ecosystems can accelerate the transitions from aerobic to anoxic states, inevitably impacting NO-N transformation. To elaborate on the microbial mechanism by which SPS content affected NO-N transformation, we explored nitrogen removal and retention, microbial communities, co-occurrence networks, and electron transfer behavior under different SPS content during the aerobic-anoxic transition.

Recently we proposed the possibility of orally exposed nanoparticles (NPs) to alter metabolite homeostasis by changing metabolism pathways, in addition to intestinal damages, but relatively few studies investigated the changes of metabolite profiles in multi-organs. This study investigated the influences of orally exposed SiO NPs on lipid profiles in gut-liver axis. To this end, we treated mice with 16, 160 or 1600 mg/kg bodyweight SiO NPs via intragastric route.

In this work, a dearomatization-spirocyclization-nucleophilic addition tandem approach was developed to realize the synthesis of 2-phosphonylated C3 spirocyclic indolines with indolyl-ynones and phosphine oxides as reactants; mild conditions, broad substrate scope, and good yields are characteristics of this transformation.

Fever confers significant survival benefits on endotherms by optimizing both innate and adaptive immunity. Ectotherms achieve thermoregulation using behavioral strategies, but existing evidence supports its enhancement effect on innate immunity only. Therefore, it remains unknown whether the coordination between fever and adaptive immunity was independently acquired by endotherms or instead represents a gradually evolved function common to vertebrates.

Background: Saliva has emerged as a promising diagnostic resource due to its accessibility, noninvasiveness, and repeatability, enabling early disease detection and timely intervention. However, current studies often overlook the distinction between whole saliva (WS) and cell-free saliva (CFS). Objective This study aims to compare the proteomic profiles of WS and CFS.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine disorder, affects women of reproductive age, and its adverse consequences affect women throughout their lifespan, from adolescence to postmenopause. The prevalence of depression is much higher in women with PCOS than in healthy controls. Thus, it is recommended that depressive syndrome be screened routinely in all patients with PCOS at diagnosis.

Methods: A total of 78 patients with PSF were randomized into an observation group (39 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a control group (39 cases, 1 case dropped out). The patients in both groups received conventional medical basic treatment.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic 4 years ago, viral sequencing continues to document numerous individual mutations in the viral spike protein across many variants. To determine the ability of vaccine-mediated humoral immunity to combat continued SARS-CoV-2 evolution, we construct a comprehensive panel of pseudoviruses harboring each individual mutation spanning 4 years of the pandemic to understand the fitness cost and resistance benefits of each. These efforts identify numerous mutations that escape from vaccine-induced humoral immunity.

Despite the exploration of some effective solutions, such as introducing organic solvents, electrolytes, and elastomer composites, these approaches still suffer from problems including diminished conductivity, interface misalignment, and insufficient protection under dynamic conditions. Inspired by cell membrane structures, we developed an adaptive lipid-integrated bilayer coating (ALIBC) to enhance water retention in hydrogel-based sensors.

Dynamic hydrogels are emerging as advanced materials for engineering tissue-like environments that mimic cellular microenvironments. We introduce a diselenide-cross-linked hydrogel system with light-responsive properties, designed for precise control of tumor organoid growth and light-initiated radical inactivation, particularly for dendritic cell (DC) vaccines. Diselenide exchange enables stress relaxation and hydrogel remodeling, while recombination and quenching of seleno radicals (Se) reduce cross-linking density, leading to controlled degradation.

The high incidence of disability and fatality rates associated with chronic diabetic wounds are difficult problems in the medical field. The steady-state and regular changes of the microenvironment in and around the wound provide good conditions for wound healing and achieve a dynamic and complex process of wound healing. The pH value and ionic environment composed of a variety of ions in wound are important factors affecting the wound microenvironment, and there are direct or indirect connections between them.

However, prolonged selenium supplementation negatively impacts colony quality in culture. To address this, a two-phase cultivation strategy was developed to spatiotemporally separate biomass accumulation from selenium enrichment, resulting in high-quality selenium-enriched N.

Studies have shown that early intervention can reduce the occurrence of itch. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a predictive model through a machine learning approach to identify patients at risk of developing PHI among patients with herpes zoster, making PHI prevention a viable clinical option.

This paper abstracts the characteristics of the coupling conditions between an electromagnetic suspension system and a flexible structure and designs and constructs an experimental apparatus that includes an electromagnet and a simulated flexible structure with adjustable stiffness and inertia. Based on the Lyapunov method, the central manifold theorem, and the Poincaré method, the stability of the electromagnetic suspension system and the conditions for Hopf bifurcations are derived.
