In many of the least developed and developing countries, a multitude of infants continue to suffer and die from vaccine-preventable diseases and malnutrition. Lamentably, the lack of official identification documentation makes it exceedingly difficult to track which infants have been vaccinated and which infants have received nutritional supplements. Answering these questions could prevent this infant suffering and premature death around the world.

Hydraulic piston pump is the heart of hydraulic transmission system. On account of the limitations of traditional fault diagnosis in the dependence on expert experience knowledge and the extraction of fault features, it is of great meaning to explore the intelligent diagnosis methods of hydraulic piston pump. Motivated by deep learning theory, a novel intelligent fault diagnosis method for hydraulic piston pump is proposed via combining wavelet analysis with improved convolutional neural network (CNN).

The elevated homocysteine level is an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis, which is characterized as a chronic inflammatory disease associated with oxidative stress. We have confirmed that homocysteine can stimulate the production of C-reactive protein (CRP) in rat aortic smooth muscle cells (RASMCs). In the present study, we investigated the role of probucol in homocysteine-induced CRP expression in cultured RASMCs and high-methionine-diet-induced hyperhomocysteinemic rats.

Lithium ion batteries have widely been used for electronic devices and electric vehicles. However, commercial anodes, generally graphite, have not been improved a great deal. Thus, we successfully constructed ReS/carbon nanotube (CNT) composites by a chemical vapor deposition method, which exhibit excellent electrochemical performances when serving as anode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs).

Autophagy, an evolutionally conserved cellular degradation process, plays critical roles in plant development and stress response. Despite the wealth of information on the vital role of autophagy in responses to environmental stresses, little is known about the regulation of autophagy. In this study, we demonstrated that spermidine (Spd), a kind of polyamine, was involved in the regulation of salt tolerance through activating the expression of (autophagy-related) genes and the formation of autophagosomes in cucumber under salt stress.

In our previous study, we have found increased serum levels of HMGB1 in patients with Henoch- Schonlein purpura (HSP), allergic vasculitis (AV), and urticarial vasculitis (UV) and altered HMGB1 distribution in lesional skin in patients with HSP. HMGB1 plays a pro-inflammatory role in the pathogenesis of HSP. To further investigate the role of HMGB1 in the pathogenic mechanism of vasculitis, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of HMGB1 blockades (including anti-HMGB1 mAb and glycyrrhizin) in a mouse model of a cutaneous reverse passive Arthus (RPA) reaction.

Mixed Poisson-Gaussian noise exists in the star images and is difficult to be effectively suppressed via maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method due to its complicated likelihood function. In this article, the MLE method is incorporated with a state-of-the-art machine learning algorithm in order to achieve accurate restoration results. By applying the mixed Poisson-Gaussian likelihood function as the reward function of a reinforcement learning algorithm, an agent is able to form the restored image that achieves the maximum value of the complex likelihood function through the Markov Decision Process (MDP).
