Plastic film mulching is an important agricultural practice, but its release of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) poses threats to soil and human health. However, the migration patterns of PAEs during the lifecycle of mulch plastic film (MPF) remain unclear. This study aims to explore the temporal patterns of release of PAEs during the MPF's lifecycle and evaluate the migration patterns of PAEs from MPF in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum (SPAC) system through pot experiments and model simulations.

The technique known as 4D-STEM has recently emerged as a powerful tool for the local characterization of crystalline structures in materials, such as cathode materials for Li-ion batteries or perovskite materials for photovoltaics. However, the use of new detectors optimized for electron diffraction patterns and other advanced techniques requires constant adaptation of methodologies to address the challenges associated with crystalline materials. In this study, we present a novel image-processing method to improve pattern matching in the determination of crystalline orientations and phases.

The background to this research is stark and rather troubling: the ongoing accumulation of residual plastic film (RPF) in farmland ultimately threatens the sustainable development of agriculture and food security. In this study, we selected 15 counties in northern China to analyze the effect of RPF content on soil properties and crop yield and the driving factors through sampling and survey questionnaire. The linear mixed-effects model revealed the four main factors affecting RPF content, ranked as follows: plastic film mulching years > government recycling policy > spacing between rows > recycling methods (0.

This work presents a low-temperature engineering strategy, from quantum dot (QD) synthesis to fabrication of a hybrid from a homogeneous dispersion to thermal annealing with elaborate use of a small organic molecule dopamine, for achieving a kind of ZnO QD-hybridized piezoelectric polymer film directly integrated into a flexible electrode and a plastic substrate. This strategy is the key for non-transfer assembly of flexible piezoelectric nanogenerators (FPENGs) with both mechanical robustness and high electrical performance via direct lamination. The rational addition of dopamine plays multiple roles of (1) significantly decreasing the size of ZnO particles to a QD level (3.

Solving the phase ambiguity problem is crucial to achieving a wide-range and high-precision measurement for the frequency-domain sampling (FDS)-based surface acoustic wave (SAW) delay-line sensor systems. This study proposes an improved phase estimation algorithm called dual-band phase estimation (DBPE) to solve the problem. By using DBPE, the SAW sensor system can obtain an extensive and alterable measuring range without further requirements for sensor design or transmitted signals.

Article Synopsis
  • Drip irrigation combined with film mulching is becoming popular in arid regions, but leftover plastic film can affect water movement in the soil.
  • Structural equation modeling was used to assess how residual plastic film (RPF) and emitter flow rate (FR) influence water wetting front movement and soil infiltration characteristics.
  • The findings indicated that high RPF hinders water movement, increasing the wetting front migration time, while specific emitter flow rates can optimize water infiltration in RPF-affected soils.

As the abundance of microplastics and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) increases in the environment, their presence in agricultural soil has become of interest. MPs/NPs can affect soil physical and chemical properties and be absorbed by plants and soil animals, causing physical and chemical damage. Soil MPs exceeding a certain concentration cause significant harm.

In this work, g-CN based ternary composite (CeO/CN/NH-MIL-101(Fe)) has been fabricated via hydrothermal and wet-chemical methods. The composite showed superior photoactivities for HO reduction to produce H and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) degradation. The amount of H evolved over the composite under visible and UV-visible irradiations is 147.

A typical Z-scheme system is composed of two photocatalysts which generate two sets of charge carriers and split water into H and O at different locations. Scientists are struggling to enhance the efficiencies of these systems by maximizing their light absorption, engineering more stable redox couples, and discovering new O and H evolutions co-catalysts. In this work, Au decorated WO/g-CN Z-scheme nanocomposites are fabricated via wet-chemical and photo-deposition methods.

Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is a common infectious disease which often occurs in young children. It is caused by enteroviruses, most commonly enterovirus71 (EV71) and Coxsackievirus A16 (CVA16). The present study focuses on the molecular epidemiology of the pathogen of HFMD in the Wuhan region of China during the period 2012 to 2013.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to prepare a protein called TccP from the E. coli strain EHEC O157:H7 and develop a polyclonal antibody against it.
  • - Researchers used PCR to amplify the TccP gene and created a recombinant expression vector, which was then introduced into E. coli to produce the protein, followed by purification and antibody production in rabbits.
  • - The results confirmed successful protein expression and antibody generation, with the antibody showing specific binding to TccP, helping to identify its location in host cells attached by EHEC O157:H7.
