Background: Tissue-based genomic classifiers (GCs) have been developed to improve prostate cancer (PCa) risk assessment and treatment recommendations.
Purpose: To summarize the impact of the Decipher, Oncotype DX Genomic Prostate Score (GPS), and Prolaris GCs on risk stratification and patient-clinician decisions on treatment choice among patients with localized PCa considering first-line treatment.
Data Sources: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science published from January 2010 to August 2024.
Background: Postdischarge contacts (PDCs) after hospitalization are common practice, but their effectiveness in reducing use of acute care after discharge remains unclear.
Purpose: To assess the effects of PDC on 30-day emergency department (ED) visits, 30-day hospital readmissions, and patient satisfaction.
Data Sources: MEDLINE, Embase, and CINAHL searched from 2012 to 25 May 2023.
Background: Hospitalists working outside the Veterans Affairs (VA) system frequently will serve Veterans receiving care for acute conditions and/or awaiting transfer to VA facilities.
Objective: To perform a scoping review of health conditions and associated outcomes relevant to hospital medicine in US Veterans who served in active duty or reserve deployed roles after November 9, 2001.
Methods: A search of MEDLINE and Embase was performed using a combination of terms related to military service period and health conditions, yielding 5634 citations published after January 1, 2013.
Untreated infective endocarditis (IE) is uniformly fatal. The practice of combination antibiotic therapy for IE is recommended by treatment guidelines but largely unsupported by high-quality evidence. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of combination antibiotic therapy compared to monotherapy in IE through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Advance care planning (ACP) interventions are implemented to achieve outcomes such as improving end-of-life care and increasing goal-concordant care. ACP has been studied across various settings, but it is important to study the impacts of ACP in nursing homes.
Objective: To review and evaluate the outcomes of ACP interventions in nursing homes.
Objectives: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is an emerging application of ultrasonography that is being integrated into patient care in many medical specialties. The post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) setting has opportunities to adopt POCUS as a diagnostic aid to improve patient outcomes. We aim (1) to describe the current use of POCUS in PALTC and (2) to examine how the use of POCUS can advance in PALTC settings.

While HIV/AIDS seemed to settle this issue, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rekindled debates regarding treatment refusal. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL Complete, and Web of Science using terms including obligation, refusal, HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and pandemics.

The aim of this study was to assess the reporting and inclusion of race, ethnicity, and sex in publications in post-stroke motor recovery clinical trials over the past 5 years.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review of stroke motor recovery trials conducted only within the United States with at least one control group and published between 2019 and 2023.
Objectives: This review examines health care team-focused interventions on managing persistent or recurrent distress behaviors among older adults in long-term residential or inpatient health care settings.
Methods: We searched interventions addressing health care worker (HCW) knowledge and skills related to distress behavior management using Ovid MEDLINE, Elsevier Embase, and Ovid PsycINFO from December 2002 through December 2022.
Results: We screened 6,582 articles; 29 randomized trials met inclusion criteria.

Although disparities and inequities in health status and access to health care services have long existed in our nation, the COVID-19 pandemic cast a bright spotlight on them. Communities of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations were disproportionally affected by the pandemic. These same populations suffer from higher prevalences of chronic illnesses, which puts them at greater risk for poor outcomes associated with SARS-CoV-2.

Differences in mechanism, injury pattern, severity, and physiology in this population distinguish pediatric trauma patients from adults. Educational techniques including simulation and didactics may improve pediatric readiness in this setting.

Systematic review publications have increased from a sporadic few in 1980s to more than 10,000 systematic reviews published every year and around 30,000 registered in prospective registries.
Methods: A cross-sectional design and a variety of data sources were triangulated to identify the journals from which systematic reviews would be evaluated for adherence to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 reporting guidelines and scope.
Background: Older adults are frequently hospitalized. Family involvement during these hospitalizations is incompletely characterized in the literature.
Objective: This study aimed to better understand how families are involved in the care of hospitalized older adults and develop a conceptual model describing the phenomenon of family involvement in the care of hospitalized older adults.
Introduction: As the older adult population increases, hospitals treat more older adults with injuries. After leaving, these patients suffer from decreased mobility and independence, relying on care from others. Family members often assume this responsibility, mostly informally and unpaid.

Design: Primary literature search from inception of each database to July 27, 2021, guided by relevant search terms and keywords to search titles and abstracts. All articles meeting eligibility criteria were included for data abstraction.

Background: Refinement of the risk classification for localized prostate cancer is warranted to aid in clinical decision making. A systematic analysis was undertaken to evaluate the prognostic ability of three genomic classifiers, Decipher, GPS, and Prolaris, for biochemical recurrence, development of metastases and prostate cancer-specific mortality in patients with localized prostate cancer.
Methods: Data sources: MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science were queried for reports published from January 2010 to April 2022.
Background: Equitable sex- and gender-based representation in clinical trials is an essential step to ensuring evidence-based care for women. While multi-institutional actions have led to significant improvements in the inclusion of women in trials, inequity persists in areas like sex-neutral cancers and cardiovascular disease. We sought to identify strategies described or evaluated to boost the inclusion of women in clinical trials.

The AMCP Board of Directors appointed a Task Force on Leadership Development in 2021 with the charge to recommend a volunteer leadership structure that aligns with AMCP's contemporary needs and fosters the development of future Board members. Based on the Task Force's recommendations and with input from AMCP members, the AMCP Board of Directors amended AMCP's governance model in early 2023. The most notable changes involve the process for electing AMCP Board members and officers, which will be implemented for the 2024-25 election.
