To determine the association between parental characteristics and MMR (measles-mumps- rubella) vaccination status of children in the United States. We conducted a cross-sectional study from July 2023 to April 2024 using a digital health survey via OutbreaksNearMe, weighted to target national population characteristics. We analyzed the responses of 19 892 parents of children younger than 5 years to examine the association between self-reported parental characteristics (i.

Background: Medications for opioid use disorder are associated with lower risk of drug overdoses at the individual level. However, little is known about whether these effects translate to population-level reductions. We investigated whether county-level efforts to increase access to medication for opioid use disorder in 2012-2014 were associated with opioid overdose deaths in New York State during the first years of the synthetic opioid crisis.

Objectives: This study explores trends in buprenorphine availability at substance use disorder treatment facilities (SUDTFs) and by waivered clinicians during the pandemic. We also examined whether there were differences in access based on a county's metropolitan status and annual fatal drug poisoning rate.

Methods: Data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration' Behavioral Health Treatment Locator between July 2019 and May 2021 were used to calculate trends in SUDTFs offering buprenorphine and the number of waivered clinicians per 10,000 population.

Background: Opioid use disorder (OUD) prevalence has increased threefold among Medicare beneficiaries 65 years and older (hereafter "older adults") since 2013, with a prevalence of 15.7 per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries in 2018. Yet, access to treatment that addresses the needs of older adults with OUD is limited, including patterns of buprenorphine prescribing to older adults.

Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) is a distinct syndrome associated with heavy smoking. The fibrotic component of the disease is generally believed to be superimposed on previously existing pulmonary emphysema, but the mechanisms responsible for these changes remain poorly understood. To better understand the pathogenesis of CPFE, we performed a series of experiments that focused on the relationships between lung elastic fibers, cigarette smoke, and secondary lung injury.

Background: Given persistent disparities in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment for Spanish speakers, it is important to understand whether major health policy changes may improve access to linguistically competent services. We estimate changes in the supply of SUD treatment facilities that both accept Medicaid as payment and offer services in Spanish after the Medicaid expansions under the Affordable Care Act.

Methods: We use data from the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Tracking Repository for years 2010-2020 to calculate the number of facilities per 100 that offered both services in Spanish and accepted Medicaid as payment, facilities per 100 that accepted Medicaid as a form of payment overall, and facilities per 100 that offered Spanish language services overall.

Vascular anomalies (VA) are classified as either vascular tumors or vascular malformations. Vascular tumors are characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of endothelial cells, whereas vascular malformations result from defects in the pathways that regulate the development of vascular channels during embryogenesis. Dermatological ultrasound has emerged as a critical diagnostic tool for distinguishing VA from other conditions and differentiating among various types of VA by providing detailed imaging characteristics.

Pulmonary emphysema involves progressive destruction of alveolar walls, leading to enlarged air spaces and impaired gas exchange. While the precise mechanisms responsible for these changes remain unclear, there is growing evidence that the extracellular matrix plays a critical role in the process. An essential feature of pulmonary emphysema is damage to the elastic fiber network surrounding the airspaces, which stores the energy needed to expel air from the lungs.

Background: Given that individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) have a variety of needs beyond substance use, it is critical to examine the comprehensiveness of services offered within outpatient SUD treatment facilities, where many individuals with SUDs receive care. This study's objective is to develop clusters of services offered, and assess organizational, policy, and environmental characteristics associated with having a more comprehensive treatment model.

Methods: We conducted a principal component analysis (PCA) using data on SUD treatment facilities (n=8, 197) from the 2022 Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Tracking Repository, a national database of SUD treatment facilities.

Chemical screens across hundreds of cell lines have shown that the drug sensitivities of human cancers can vary by genotype or lineage. However, most drug discovery studies have relied on culture media that poorly reflect metabolite levels in human blood. Here, we perform drug screens in traditional and Human Plasma-Like Medium (HPLM).

COVID-19-related school closures may have had unintended consequences affecting the ability of health professionals with school-age children to work-particularly female professionals, who often have disproportionate child care responsibilities. We combined labor-force participation data from the Current Population Survey with measures of school closures based on cell phone mobility data to examine the association between local school closures and labor supply among female nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the six months after large-scale closure of schools at the end of the 2019-20 school year (March-August 2020), among counties with above-median school closure rates, the employment rate of female nurses with young children declined by 12.

Research examining the relationship between a neighborhood's built-environment and resident health or health-related outcomes has largely either focused on static characteristics using a cross-sectional research design or focuses on the neighborhood in its entirety. Such an approach makes it difficult to understand how specific dynamic neighborhood characteristics are associated with individual well-being. In this analysis, we use longitudinal data from the Pittsburgh Research on Neighborhood Change and Health (PHRESH) studies to assess the relationship between publicly funded neighborhood investments occurring across seven years (2011-2018) on five health-related outcomes: food insecurity, stress, perceived neighborhood safety, neighborhood satisfaction, and dietary quality.

Purpose: Inconsistent access to healthcare for people with epilepsy results in reduced adherence to antiseizure medications, increased seizure frequency, and fewer appropriate referrals for epilepsy surgery. Identifying and addressing factors that impede access to care should consequently improve patient outcomes. We hypothesized that health insurance and transportation affect access to outpatient neurology care for adults living with epilepsy in the United States (US).

Little is known regarding the extent to which substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facilities adopt comprehensive services to meet patients' medical and social needs. To examine trends in the availability of comprehensive services within outpatient SUD treatment facilities from 2018 to 2022. We used data from the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Tracking Repository, a national database of SUD treatment facilities ( = 13,793).

The COVID-19 pandemic, polarized politics, and heightened stigma and discrimination are salient drivers for negative mental health outcomes, particularly among marginalized racial and ethnic minoritized groups. Intersectionality of race, ethnicity, foreign-born status, and educational attainment may distinctively shape an individual's experience of discrimination and mental health during such unprecedented time. The present study examines the differential associations of racial discrimination and mental health based on an individual's race, ethnicity, foreign-born status, and educational attainment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
