Background And Aims: Microstructural disturbances underlie dysfunctional contraction and adverse left ventricular (LV) remodelling after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Biphasic diffusion tensor cardiovascular magnetic resonance (DT-CMR) quantifies dynamic reorientation of sheetlets (E2A) from diastole to systole during myocardial thickening, and markers of tissue integrity [mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA)]. This study investigated whether microstructural alterations identified by biphasic DT-CMR: (i) enable contrast-free detection of acute myocardial infarction (MI); (ii) associate with severity of myocardial injury and contractile dysfunction; and (iii) predict adverse LV remodelling.

Although random forest (RF) represents a flexible non-parametric approach with several advantages, it can provide poor accuracy in high-dimensional settings, mainly in scenarios with small sample sizes. We propose a knowledge-slanted RF that integrates biological networks as prior knowledge into the model to improve its performance and explainability, exemplifying its use for selecting and identifying relevant genes.

Malignant transformation of FD is extremely rare and has been reported in both monostotic and polyostotic forms of FD. The most frequently reported malignant transformation is osteosarcoma.

Here, we identify experimental factors related to culture conditions that substantially impact cellular drug response in vitro and determine optimal conditions for improved replicability and reproducibility. Treatment duration and cell seeding density were both found to be significant factors, while cell line differences also contributed to variation.

In retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) type I, the use of intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB), which is an inhibitor of endothelial growth factor (VEGF), has become popular despite not being a therapy approved by regulatory agencies. However, IVB has shown positive effects in halting disease progression at lower costs compared to other anti-VEGF therapies (ranibizumab or aflibercept). In this report, we present the experience during the treatment with IVB of 102 Colombian children with ROP type I, with a success rate of 98% (100).

In recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have been proposed for the management of metastatic disease, as they have shown improved rates of response and long-term survival. Furthermore, they exhibit a favourable tolerance profile, and adverse events causing significant morbidity are infrequent.

Predictive biomarkers to better understand which patients are destined to benefit or experience toxicity are needed. Associations between bevacizumab induced hypertension and survival have been reported but with conflicting conclusions.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of infants included in an ROP prevention, early detection, and prompt treatment program, from January 01, 2002, to December 31, 2021 (20 years). Infants with gestational age (GA) <37 weeks or birth weight (BW) <2000 g and those with known ROP risk factors were screened.
The current study tested the effects of attentive versus distracted listening on both speakers and listeners in recall of an autobiographical memory. Participants included 128 pairs of friends who spoke with each other over a video call about recent negative experience that one of them had. Participants were randomly assigned to be speakers or listeners, and listeners were randomly assigned to an attentive and a distracted condition.

Yet, as its analysis is mostly based on the knowledge of an a priori canonical hemodynamic response function (HRF), its reliability in patients' applications has been questioned. There have been reports of neurovascular uncoupling in patients with glioma, but no specific description of the Hemodynamic Response Function (HRF) in glioma has been reported so far.

Rare germline gene markers were evaluated for predicting severe taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) in the patients of European ancestry.
