Traditional postero-medial ankle approach for Bartonícek type III in Volkmann Fractures: Is it useful?

Introduction: There is evidence that the presence of a posterior malleolus fracture (PMF) worsens the prognosis of ankle fractures, making conservative treatment a poor choice. PMFs include a heterogeneous group of bone injury patterns that are sometimes associated to medial malleolus extensions, as well as fibula fractures or syndesmotic damage. This requires the surgeon to be well-versed in anatomy to choose the appropriate surgical approach.

Anatomical analysis of the traditional postero-medial approach to the ankle and evaluation of structures at risk.

Introduction: The presence of a fracture of the posterior malleolus gives a poor prognosis for ankle fractures. This study aimed to analyze the anatomical structures at risk in the traditional postero-medial (TPM) approach.

Methods: Of a total of 21 cadaveric pieces, 11 were female and 10 were male; 9 ankles/right foot and 11 ankles/left foot.

Socio-Environmental Risks Linked with Mine Tailings Chemical Composition: Promoting Responsible and Safe Mine Tailings Management Considering Copper and Gold Mining Experiences from Chile and Peru.

There is a need to define mine tailings in a clear, precise, multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and holistic manner, considering not only geotechnical and hydraulic concepts but also integrating environmental and geochemical aspects with implications for the sustainability of mining. This article corresponds to an independent study that answers questions concerning the definition of mine tailings and the socio-environmental risks linked with mine tailings chemical composition by examining the practical experience of industrial-scale copper and gold mining projects in Chile and Peru. Definitions of concepts and analysis of key aspects in the responsible management of mine tailings, such as characterization of metallic-metalloid components, non-metallic components, metallurgical reagents, and risk identification, among others, are presented.

The PAY test: a new approach for assessing functional performance in children and adolescents with asthma.

Objective: To develop, validate, and test the reproducibility of a new test capable of assessing functional performance in children and adolescents (PAY test: Performance Activity in Youth).

Methods: participants without and with asthma were included in the development and validation phases, respectively. The PAY test includes five activities: transition from sitting to standing, walking 10 m, step climbing, shoulder extension and flexion, and star jumps.

Irreversible electroporation is a non-thermal ablation technique in which electrical fields are used to create nanopores in the cell membrane that induce tumor cell death. Irreversible electroporation has shown promising results in numerous clinical trials; however, its control on long-term tumor growth and recurrence is inferior in comparison to that of radiofrequency.

Redefining Disability: Patient-Reported Outcome Measures After Minor Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack.

Background: Long-term outcome assessment patients with stroke is not fully captured by usual clinical scales such as the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are standardized and validated assessments that consider clinical outcomes from the patient perspective. We aim to analyze the added value of PROMs in patients with transient ischemic attack and minor stroke.

Multiparametric renal magnetic resonance imaging: A reproducibility study in renal allografts with stable function.

Monitoring renal allograft function after transplantation is key for the early detection of allograft impairment, which in turn can contribute to preventing the loss of the allograft. Multiparametric renal MRI (mpMRI) is a promising noninvasive technique to assess and characterize renal physiopathology; however, few studies have employed mpMRI in renal allografts with stable function (maintained function over a long time period). The purposes of the current study were to evaluate the reproducibility of mpMRI in transplant patients and to characterize normal values of the measured parameters, and to estimate the labeling efficiency of Pseudo-Continuous Arterial Spin Labeling (PCASL) in the infrarenal aorta using numerical simulations considering experimental measurements of aortic blood flow profiles.

In San Francisco in 2017, 96% of trans women were aware of their status, 75% were on antiretroviral therapy, 88% had viral suppression.
