Although specific risk factors for brain alterations in bipolar disorders (BD) are currently unknown, obesity impacts the brain and is highly prevalent in BD. Gray matter correlates of obesity in BD have been well documented, but we know much less about brain white matter abnormalities in people who have both obesity and BD. We obtained body mass index (BMI) and diffusion tensor imaging derived fractional anisotropy (FA) from 22 white matter tracts in 899 individuals with BD, and 1287 control individuals from 20 cohorts in the ENIGMA-BD working group.

Neuroimaging plays a crucial role in understanding brain structure and function, but the lack of transparency, reproducibility, and reliability of findings is a significant obstacle for the field. To address these challenges, there are ongoing efforts to develop reporting checklists for neuroimaging studies to improve the reporting of fundamental aspects of study design and execution. In this review, we first define what we mean by a neuroimaging reporting checklist and then discuss how a reporting checklist can be developed and implemented.

Tolerance to high-intensity constant power exercise can be characterized by the hyperbolic power-duration (or velocity-duration) relationship. The hyperbola is defined by the asymptote (critical power or velocity) and the curvature constant (W' or D'). Multivariate techniques better fit the anatomy of complex neuropsychiatric disorders which are characterized not by alterations in a single region, but rather by variations across distributed brain networks. Here, we used principal component analysis (PCA) to identify patterns of covariance across brain regions and relate them to clinical and demographic variables in a large generalizable dataset of individuals with bipolar disorders and controls. We then compared performance of PCA and clustering on identical sample to identify which methodology was better in capturing links between brain and clinical measures.

Background: We analyzed long-term control and patterns of failure in patients with World Health Organization Grade 1 meningiomas treated with definitive or postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery at the authors' affiliated institution.

Methods: 96 patients were treated between 2004 and 2019 with definitive (n = 57) or postoperative (n = 39) stereotactic radiosurgery. Of the postoperative patients, 17 were treated adjuvantly following subtotal resection and 22 were treated as salvage at time of progression.

Background and objective Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is considered a surgical emergency, and its primary treatment involves decompression of the nerve roots, typically in the form of discectomy or laminectomy. The primary aim of this study was to determine the complication, reoperation, and readmission rates within 30 days of surgical treatment of CES secondary to disc herniation by using the PearlDiver database (PearlDiver Technologies, Colorado Springs, CO). The secondary aim was to assess preoperative risk factors for a higher likelihood of complication occurrence within 30 days of surgery for CES.
