Pilocarpine-Induced Status Epilepticus Is Associated with P-Glycoprotein Induction in Cardiomyocytes, Electrocardiographic Changes, and Sudden Death.

Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the major cause of death in those patients suffering from refractory epilepsy (RE), with a 24-fold higher risk relative to the normal population. SUDEP risk increases with seizure frequency and/or seizure-duration as in RE and Status Epilepticus (SE). P-glycoprotein (P-gp), the product of the multidrug resistant gene, is a detoxifying pump that extrudes drugs out of the cells and can confer pharmacoresistance to the expressing cells.

Determination of Cu/Zn and Fe in human serum of patients with sickle cell anemia using radiation synchrotron.

In this work we analyzed serum samples from patients with Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) using Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence using Synchrotron Radiation (SRTXRF). The SRTXRF measurements were performed at the X-Ray Fluorescence Beamline at the Brazilian National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). We studied forty-three patients aged 18-50 suffering from SCA and sixty healthy volunteers aged 18-60.

In vivo long-term kinetics of radiolabeled n,n-dimethyltryptamine and tryptamine.

Unlabelled: N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a strong psychodysleptic drug, has been found in higher plants, shamanic hallucinogenic beverages, and the urine of schizophrenic patients. The aim of this work was to gain better knowledge on the relationship between this drug and hallucinogenic processes by studying DMT behavior in comparison with tryptamine.

Methods: (131)I-labeled DMT and tryptamine were injected into rabbits.

[Conservative treatment of pneumatosis intestinalis and pneumoperitoneum after bone marrow transplantation].

Objective: Pneumatosis intestinalis (PI) is a radiological sign that can be accompanied by pneumoperitoneum. It is not exclusive of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis. It can also appear after bone marrow transplantation.
