Retrospective Evaluation of Bone Metastases in Patients With Thyroid Malignancy: A Single-Center Experience.

Background Thyroid cancer is one of the five most common cancers causing bone metastasis. If there is an increase in serum thyroglobulin-antithyroglobulin levels in differentiated thyroid cancer or calcitonin levels in medullary thyroid cancer, patients should be evaluated for recurrence and distant metastasis. The skeleton is the second most common site of distant metastasis in thyroid cancer after the lung.

The Effect of Regular Exercise and its Duration on Metabolic Parameters.

Regular exercise is crucial for regulating metabolic parameters. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the effects of regular exercise duration on glycaemic and metabolic parameters, insulin resistance, and atherogenic indices in individuals attending a single-family health centre. A total of 403 individuals were divided into three groups based on their exercise status as Group A with no regular exercise, Group B with <150 minutes, and Group C with ≥150 minutes of regular excercise per week.

Serological Screening for Celiac Disease and Gastrointestinal Absorption Disorders in Patients with Autoimmune Endocrine Diseases.

Celiac disease (CD) accompanying autoimmune endocrine diseases (AED) is generally asymptomatic. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of clinically overt or silent CD in patients diagnosed with autoimmune endocrinopathy and the clinical effects of silent CD in these endocrinopathies. The study included 166 patients with known or newly diagnosed mono-/polyglandular AED and 90 age- and gender-matched healthy controls.

Association between effect of acceptance of illness and medication adherence, metabolic control, and risk of diabetic foot in individuals with diabetes.

Aims: This study aimed to determine the association between the level of acceptance of illness and medication adherence, metabolic control, and risk of diabetic foot in patients with diabetes.

Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 298 patients with diabetes. The questionnaire comprised the demographic characteristics of the patients, Modified Morisky Scale and the Acceptance of Illness Scale.

Evaluating a physicians' perspective on the use of probiotics and vitamins against coronavirus disease.

Objective: To evaluate the perspective of family physicians on probiotics and vitamins against coronavirus disease-2019.

Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted from June 1 to 30, 2021, after approval from the ethics review committee of Bursa Uludag University, Bursa, Turkey, and comprised family physicians of either gender working at family health centres in the country. Data was collected using an online questionnaire to measure the sociodemographic characteristics, habits, health status related to coronavirus disease-2019, and their knowledge, awareness and behaviour towards the use of probiotics and vitamins during the pandemic.

Assessment of awareness about COVID-19 disease and vaccine uptake.

Objective: To evaluate the awareness of individuals about coronavirus disease-2019 disease and vaccines during the pandemic.

Methods: The descriptive, cross-sectional survey-based study was conducted at family health centres in the Bursa province of Turkiye from July 1 to 7, 2021. The face-to-face survey of registered individuals had 20 items that measured coronavirus disease-2019 and vaccines.

The effect of calcineurin inhibitors on anthropometric measurements in kidney transplant recipients.

Background: This study was designed to investigate the effect of calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs), cyclosporine (CsA), and tacrolimus (Tac) on anthropometrics in kidney transplant recipients.

Methods: 111 of 128 adult kidney transplant recipients who received post-transplant CNIs were included in this retrospective study. Anthropometrics were recorded in the pre-transplant and post-transplant 4-year follow-up periods (1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months).

Does vitamin D level have an effect on COVID-19 positivity and COVID-19 related mortality? A retrospective study.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted in Bursa, Turkey, and comprised data of 30 family health centers from March 1 to December 15, 2020, related to diagnosed inpatients of coronovairus disease-2019. The diagnosis was based on polymerase chain reaction test for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection.

Comparison of the Effect of Anesthetic Agents on Blood Levels of Parathyroid Hormone and Ionized Calcium: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial.

The aim of this randomized control trial is to compare the effect of anesthetic agents on blood levels of parathyroid hormone and ionized calcium. 77 American Society of Anesthesiologists I-II patients who would undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy were enrolled into this prospective study and randomized into 3 groups with sealed envelope technique as Group S: sevoflurane, Group D: desflurane, and Group TIVA: total intravenous anesthesia. The first blood sample was used to check the baseline blood levels of parathyroid hormone and ionized calcium.

How the COVID-19 outbreak affected patients with diabetes mellitus?

Background: Global COVID-19 outbreak has been such a stressful experience for most of the people. Using a web-based cross-sectional study, we aimed to evaluate the acute stress response, depression, and anxiety in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to examine the effect of these psychiatric problems on diet habits and glycemic controls of patients.

Methods: This web-based survey of COVID-19 was sent to the patients through the Whatsapp platform.

Identifying Clinical Characteristics of Hypoparathyroidism in Turkey: HIPOPARATURK-NET Study.

Hypoparathyroidism is an orphan disease with ill-defined epidemiology that is subject to geographic variability. We conducted this study to assess the demographics, etiologic distribution, treatment patterns and complication frequency of patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism in Turkey. This is a retrospective, cross-sectional database study, with collaboration of 30 endocrinology centers located in 20 cities across seven geographical regions of Turkey.

Comparison of the effects of medical and surgical treatments in giant prolactinoma: a single-center experience.

Purpose: Giant prolactinomas, which have extremely large sizes and high prolactin (PRL) values, are rarely seen. Although medical therapy is effective, surgical treatment is more frequently applied due to slightly lower response rates and compression symptoms. This study aimed to compare the medical and surgical treatment results in giant prolactinomas.

Recently, studies have reported that inflammatory response and elevated platelet counts are associated with several cancers. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate hemocytometer parameters in differentiating adrenal adenoma and carcinoma, and the prognostic utility of hemocytometer parameters in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). We included 30 patients with nonfunctional adrenal adenoma and 13 patients with ACC having undergone surgery between 2005 and 2017 and followed up postoperatively at our centre.

Vitamin D status in the adult population of Bursa-Turkey.

Background: Vitamin D, along with parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcitonin, is an important hormone that affects bone and calcium metabolism.

Objectives: To evaluate the vitamin D status and its seasonal variation in the adult population of Bursa.

Methods: Since there is not enough information about vitamin D levels, 25 OH vitamin D levels were analysed retrospectively from the records of 11,734 adult subjects (9142 women, 2592 men) admitted to 24 family health centres located in different districts of Bursa between 1 December 2017 and 30 November 2018.

Utilization of statins and LDL-cholesterol target attainment in Turkish patients with type 2 diabetes - a nationwide cross-sectional study (TEMD dyslipidemia study).

Background: Attaining acceptable levels of LDL Cholesterol (LDL-C) significantly improves cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Control of Refractory Hypercalcemia with Denosumab in a Case of Metastatic Parathyroid Carcinoma.

Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare cause of hyperparathyroidism and leads to severe hypercalcemia. The etiology is not fully known. Parathyroid cancer should be considered in the differential diagnosis, if serum calcium and parathyroid hormone levels increase, and parathyroid gland is palpable.

General and abdominal obesity prevelances and their relations with metabolic syndrome components.

Methods: The data from the records of the consecutive adult residents of Bursa province in Turkey who were admitted to the family health centers from the 1 January to the 31 December 2016 were evaluated retrospectively. The population size was 2901396 (N) and the sample size was at least n=17729.

Lipid profile in type 2 diabetic patients with new dapagliflozin treatment; actual clinical experience data of six months retrospective lipid profile from single center.

Introduction: Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor that improves glycemic control in patients with type II diabetes mellitus which increasing urinary glucose excretion. With numerous controlled experimental studies of dapagliflozin, evaluation of real-life data after entry into clinical practice is an important condition. In our study, the effects of dapagliflozin (10 mg) on lipid profile were investigated retrospectively.
