These technologies also present new challenges, however, and efforts must be made to ensure they are safe and effective.

High-resolution laser spectroscopy of singly charged natural uranium isotopes.

High-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy has been performed on singly charged ions of U at the IGISOL facility of the Accelerator Laboratory, University of Jyväskylä, in Finland. Ten ionic transitions from the and ground and first excited states were measured in the 300 nm wavelength range, improving the precision of the hyperfine parameters of the lower states in addition to providing newly measured values for the upper levels. Isotope shifts of the analyzed transitions are also reported for U with respect to U.

Development of a loop-mediated isothermal amplification detection assay for (Bloch, 1782) lungworm: DviLAMP.

The bovine lungworm, (Bloch, 1782), is highly pathogenic and disease outbreaks can be difficult to predict and manage. Rapid and accurate diagnosis is vital, but without a sensitive diagnostic test this remains challenging in clinical practice. High performance molecular detection tools are therefore required to improve the diagnosis of this parasite and promote the implementation of strategic control measures.

Biofilms and microbiome profiles in chronic wounds: links to antibiotic use and wound severity in a Sri Lankan cohort.

Aims: We have characterized the microbiome of infected chronic diabetic wounds (CDWs), exploring associations with antibiotic use and wound severity in a Sri Lankan cohort.

Methods And Results: Fifty CDW patients were enrolled, 38 of whom received antibiotics. Tissue biopsies were analysed by microbiome profiling, and wounds were graded using the University of Texas Wound Grading System.

A Tensioned Human Skin Explant Model Used for Preliminary Assessment of Chemexfoliant-Stimulated Bioeffects.

A tensioned ex vivo full-thickness human skin explant platform was used to assess the bioeffects arising from application of several commercial chemexfoliation agents. Although such treatments are well-established, and improved understanding of the underlying mechanistic processes continues to emerge, research into the optimum treatments for specific skin types/conditions is still needed for enhanced efficacy while minimizing recovery time. The 3 commercial chemexfoliation agents employed all contained trichloroacetic acid at well-defined concentrations (6, 10, and 20%) and were applied to the explants' stratum corneum.

Purpose: As natural disasters become more frequent and more severe, there is a corresponding need to understand their relationship with child and adolescent mental health, and in particular, to understand exposure to multiple natural disasters. This study assesses the relationship between exposure to both single and multiple disasters and adolescent internalising and externalising behavior.

Methods: The study used five waves of a nationally representative longitudinal Australian dataset.

Background: The bovine lungworm Dictyocaulus viviparus negatively impacts bovine health and leads to substantial economic losses. Lungworm infections can be difficult to manage due to the unpredictable and severe nature of clinical outbreaks. Despite the widespread use of macrocyclic lactones (MLs) in grazing cattle in the UK, there have been no confirmed reports of resistant lungworms to date, with only one case of anthelmintic-resistant (ML) lungworm confirmed worldwide.

Time to therapy and safety of testicular tissue cryopreservation in children undergoing gonadotoxic treatment or hematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Background: With the use of multimodal treatments and hematopoietic stem cell transplant, the majority of children diagnosed with malignancies and hematologic diseases are now surviving into adulthood. Due to the gonadotoxic effects and potential for future infertility associated with many of these treatments, fertility counseling with sperm cryopreservation prior to starting therapy is the standard of care for post-pubertal males. Unfortunately, the options are limited for pre-pubertal patients or those unable to provide a specimen.

The complete genome sequence of a novel sadwavirus infecting cattleya orchids in South East Queensland is described. Isometric virions of c. 27 nm diameter were observed in sap extracts viewed under a transmission electron microscope, and the genome sequence of this virus was determined by high-throughput sequencing.

Investigating the association between nitrate dosing and nitrite generation by the human oral microbiota in continuous culture.

The generation of nitrite by the oral microbiota is believed to contribute to healthy cardiovascular function, with oral nitrate reduction to nitrite associated with systemic blood pressure regulation. There is the potential to manipulate the composition or activities of the oral microbiota to a higher nitrate-reducing state through nitrate supplementation. The current study examined microbial community composition and enzymatic responses to nitrate supplementation in sessile oral microbiota grown in continuous culture.

The introduction of Integrated Care Systems (ICS) in England aimed to increase joint planning and delivery of health and social care, and other services, to better meet the needs of local communities. There is an associated duty to undertake collaborative research across ICS partners to inform this new integrated approach, which might be challenging given that organisations span health, local authority, voluntary and community sector, and research. This study aimed to explore the appetite for collaborative Research and Innovation (R&I) across ICSs, potential barriers and solutions.

Genomic variation in pepper vein yellows viruses in Australia, including a new putative variant, PeVYV-10.

Since the first identification and full sequence of the polerovirus pepper vein yellows virus in Australia in 2016, virus surveys of crops and weeds have sporadically identified PeVYV in different hosts and locations. Genomic comparisons of 14 PeVYV-like isolates using RT-PCR products spanning the 3' end of the RdRp region (ORF 2), the intergenic region, ORF 3a, ORF 4, and ORF 3 (1388 nt) showed that four of the PeVYV isolates might be a new variant or PeVYV-like virus. From six PeVYV-positive plants, eight PeVYV-like sequences were obtained by high-throughput sequencing, as two hosts, 5352 and 5634, contained two slightly different PeVYV-like isolates.
