Background & Aims: Considerable interest has been recently given to the potential role of the gut-brain axis (GBA) -a two-way communication network between the gut microbiota and the central nervous system- in the pathogenesis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), suggesting the potential usefulness of probiotic and synbiotic supplementations. In light of the limited available evidence, synbiotic efficacy in ADHD children not taking medications should be clarified. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a synbiotic dietary supplementation on fatty acids levels as well as on microbiota composition, behaviour, cognition, and brain function in children with ADHD.

Apical periodontitis is an inflammatory disease triggered by oral pathogens invading necrotic root canals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the coronal and root canal bacterial community profiles in primary endodontic infections with different periapical (PAI) indices in comparison to oral mucosa controls. A total of 31 patients with primary apical periodontitis, 14 with PAI-1 and 17 with PAI-3 were recruited.

An important determinant for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) onset and outcome is the composition of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Thus, the study of the interactions occurring among cancer cells, immune cells, and cancer-associated fibroblasts within the TME could facilitate the understanding of the mechanisms underlying OSCC development and progression, as well as of its sensitivity or resistance to the therapy. In this context, it must be highlighted that the characterization of TME proteins is enabled by proteomic methodologies, particularly mass spectrometry (MS).

Periodontitis is linked to the onset and progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), an epidemiologically frequent and clinically aggressive malignancy. In this context, and , two bacteria that cause periodontitis, are found in OSCC tissues as well as in oral premalignant lesions, where they exert pro-tumorigenic activities. Since the two bacteria are present also in endodontic diseases, playing a role in their pathogenesis, here we analyze the literature searching for information on the impact that endodontic infection by or could have on cellular and molecular events involved in oral carcinogenesis.

Background: Dysphagia is a disorder that can be associated to several pathological conditions, including neuromuscular diseases, with significant impact on quality of life. Dysphagia often leads to malnutrition, as a consequence of the dietary changes made by patients or their caregivers, who may deliberately decide to reduce or avoid specific food consistencies (because they are not perceived as safe), and the lack of knowledge in how to process foods are critics. Such dietary changes often result in unbalanced nutrients intake, which can have significant consequences for frail patients.

Myelination allows fast and synchronized nerve influxes and is provided by Schwann cells (SCs) in the peripheral nervous system. Glucocorticoid hormones are major regulators of stress, metabolism and immunity affecting all tissues. They act by binding to two receptors, the low-affinity glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and the high-affinity mineralocorticoid receptor (MR).

Objectives: Almost half of pediatric EMS calls may be for low-acuity problems. Many EMS agencies have implemented alternative disposition programs for low-acuity patients, including transportation to clinics, substituting taxis for ambulances, and treatment in place without transport to an emergency department. Including children in such programs poses specific challenges, with one concern being potential caregiver opposition.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a rapidly progressive cancer that often develops resistance against DNA damage inducers, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which are still the standard of care regimens for this tumor. Thus, the identification of biomarkers capable of monitoring the clinical progression of OSCC and its responsiveness to therapy is strongly required. To meet this need, here we have employed Whole Genome Sequencing and RNA-seq data from a cohort of 316 patients retrieved from the TCGA Pan-Cancer Atlas to analyze the genomic and transcriptomic status of the DNA damage response (DDR) genes in OSCC.

Cluster of differentiation (CD)147, also termed extracellular matrix metalloprotease inducer or basigin, is a glycoprotein ubiquitously expressed throughout the human body, the oral cavity included. CD147 actively participates in physiological tissue development or growth and has important roles in reactive processes such as inflammation, immunity, and tissue repair. It is worth noting that deregulated expression and/or activity of CD147 is observed in chronic inflammatory or degenerative diseases, as well as in neoplasms.

This paper is designed to evaluate the results (at long-term follow-up of) children affected by dilating VUR. Our attention was focused on how VUR grade, laterality, bladder dysfunction (BD), the double renal system, and the type of bulking substance may affect VUR resolution in the long-term period. The charts of 93 children with dilating VUR who underwent endoscopic treatment (ET) and with a minimum post-operative follow-up of 7 years were reviewed (mean follow-up time was 9.

The occurrence of a mesenteric cyst (MC) is common in adults while in children and in infants is rare. In adults mesenteric cysts are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally; however, in children they commonly present with symptoms of abdominal pain or distension with fever and leucocytosis. We report on a rare case, in our experience, of Mesenteric Chylous cyst (MCC) in an infant with signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction.

Background And Objectives: Dental crowding is more pronounced in the mandible than in the maxilla. When exceeding a significant amount, the creation of new space is required. The mandibular expansion devices prove to be useful even if the increase in the lower arch perimeter seems to be just ascribed to the vestibular inclination of teeth.

Treatment of necrotic immature permanent anterior teeth with Portland cements apical plug. The long-term success of endodontic treatment depends on the quality of the apical and coronal seal. In necrotic immature teeth the treatment can be challenging for the clinician as the endodontic anatomy and the presence of bacterial infection need to be addressed with special techniques and materials in order to obtain an effective and biocompatible apical seal.

The main concern of endodontics are bacteria: the microorganisms and the toxins they release determine tissue destruction and inflammatory changes that trigger the pulpal and periapical pathology. Enterococcus faecalis is a particularly hostile bacterium; it is strongly associated with refractory periapical pathology. In this study 3 materials were tested: Aureoseal (OGNA, Italy) (Aur) (first generation bioceramic sealer); Endo Seuqence BC sealer (Brasseler USA, Savannah, GA, USA) (EsBC) (latest generation bioceramic sealer); Endoidrox (OGNA, Italy) (Endx) (calcium hydroxide material).
