Temperature is a key factor that influences pesticide degradation. Extrapolating degradation half-lives (DT50) measured at a given temperature to different temperatures remains challenging, especially for tropical conditions with high temperatures. In this study, the use of the standard Arrhenius equation for correcting temperature effects on pesticide degradation in soils was evaluated and its performance was compared with that of alternative Arrhenius-based equations.

Moreover, relationship between binge eating disorder and other psychiatric comorbidities is not clear. Our objective was to identify psychiatric comorbidity profiles of bariatric surgery candidates and to analyze the association between these profiles and binge-eating disorder.

Background: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding has been demonstrated to permit important weight loss and comorbidity improvement, but some bands will have to be removed mainly for failure or in case of planned 2-step surgery. Then, the absence of a gastro-gastric suture (GGS) would allow easier band removal.
Background: Although laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a popular metabolic/bariatric procedure, few prospective studies have assessed its outcomes. This study aimed to prospectively assess LAGB safety and effectiveness outcomes using the MIDBAND™ (MID, Dardilly, France).
Methods: Between May 2005 and September 2006, 262 morbidly obese patients underwent primary gastric banding with pars flaccida technique in 13 French medical centers.
Imaging has always been a part of dental implant procedures from its beginning. Initially, imaging was performed by dentists. The introduction of CT scan at the end of the seventies was revolutionary.

Between 1988 and 2005, 75 patients underwent surgery for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. There were 53 resections including three additional interventions for recurrence.

Objective: To define specific features of follow-up in pregnant women with gastric banding in order to evaluate obstetrical outcomes and gastric banding related complications.
Materials And Methods: A systematic review of observational and case-control studies, as well as case reports to discuss pregnant women follow-up.
Results: Seven articles were retained.
The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing prognosis after resection for hepatocellular carcinoma in the noncirrhotic liver and to measure the impact of moderate fibrosis on presentation and prognosis. A series of 116 primary procedures were performed for hepatocellular carcinoma in the noncirrhotic liver. These cases accounted for 42% of hepatic resections performed for hepatocellular carcinoma during the study period (1987-2005).

The utility of surgical resection is still controversial. This study compared morbidity and survival after resection for HCC with and without tumor thrombus.

This procedure could be performed in situ, limiting the duration of the operation and improving recovery of liver function. LIVING RELATED DONORS: Living donor liver transplantation is a well established technique in children.

The phalloidin-FITC staining of F-actin was normal in liver hepatocytes before reperfusion but decreased significantly after reperfusion (by 25% of controls). These results indicate that hepatic F-actin alteration is produced during the reperfusion phase.

In order to examine glucose metabolism in liver grafts after cold ischemia and reperfusion, the heterogeneous lobular distribution pattern of glycogen content was studied using histochemical quantitative analysis. In most of the cases, this heterogeneous pattern of glycogen was observed after preservation and reperfusion. However, a 42% reduction of glycogen content, expressed as the ratio between stained surface and total surface of liver biopsies, was observed in biopsies after reperfusion.

The characteristic heterogeneous lobular distribution pattern of glycogen and glucose-6-phosphatase was maintained after preservation and reperfusion. However, it appeared that glycogen content decreased in both periportal and centrilobular hepatocytes after reperfusion.

Patients And Methods: Between 1987 and 1999, the records of patients operated on for hepatocellular carcinoma and in whom cirrhosis was not present on pathological examination of liver parenchyma were collected. Data were collected prospectively.
Objective: To assess the morbidity and its main risk factors after major hepatic resection.
Design: Retrospective study of prospectively collected data.
Setting: University hospital, France.
Background: The ingestion of foreign bodies is the second most frequent cause of aorto-esophageal fistulization after aneurysms of the thoracic aorta.
Case Report: A 28-year-old man died from catastrophic hematemesis 7 days after ingesting a bone splinter. The CT scan performed 3 days before the fatal event had demonstrated a fistulous formation originating in the aorta.
Introduction: The shortage of cadaveric organ donors imposes a severe limit to the number of liver transplantations. A selection is thus necessary among patients: should the sickest be selected, or those who supposedly have the best chance to survive and recover? Optimizing the timing of transplantation during the course of the disease (not too early, but not too late) is another issue.
Current Knowledge And Key Points: Suitable candidates for transplantation are patients suffering from an irreversible, symptomatic liver disease.
Three cases of giant hemangioma of the liver associated with clinical and laboratory signs of inflammatory process, including low-grade fever, weight loss, abdominal pain, accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, anemia, thrombocytosis, and increased fibrinogen level with normal white blood cell count are described. One patient presented with slight cholestatic jaundice because of tumor-related bile duct compression, but the other two patients had normal liver function tests, except for a slight increase in gammaglutamyl transferase. Clinical and laboratory abnormalities disappeared after surgical excision.

A case of intravenous leiomyomatosis with extension into the entire inferior vena cava in a 41-year-old woman is described. The patient was diagnosed with syncope 3 years after hysterectomy and was treated with a 1-stage procedure including venous replacement.

The anti-inflammatory effect of n-3 PUFA on the gingivae has already been demonstrated in animal models. The aim of this double-blind, randomized pilot study versus placebo is to evaluate this action in human experimentally-induced gingivitis. For 14 days (D0-D14), 37 healthy volunteers practised intensive oral hygiene, then abstained from brushing their teeth for 21 days (D14 to D35).

The anti-inflammatory effect of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) has already been demonstrated in an animal model. The aim of this randomized, double-blind, versus placebo study is to assess this action on experimental gingivitis in humans. Over a 14-day period (day 0-day 14), 37 healthy volunteers undertook intensive oral hygiene, and then did not brush their teeth for 21 days (day 14-day 35) so that gingivitis could then develop.
