: Poor medication adherence results in negative health outcomes and increased healthcare costs. Several healthcare professionals provide interventions to improve medication adherence, with the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in people with chronic diseases remaining unclear. : This study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions for improving medication adherence in adults with chronic conditions.

Background: The use of serious games (SGs) in nursing education is increasing, with the COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerating their development. A key feature of SGs is their flexibility, allowing students to train at any place and time as needed. Recently, there has been a shift from developing disease-specific SGs to games focused on broader health issues.

Objective: To synthesize evidence assessing the effectiveness of quality improvement (QI) interventions in reducing hospital service use from nursing homes (NHs).

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), controlled before-after (CBA), uncontrolled before-after (UBA), and interrupted time series studies. Searches were conducted in MEDLINE, CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science from 2000 to August 2023 (PROSPERO: CRD42022364195).

Atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) is often used in the analysis of linear saturated hydrocarbons (LSHs) as this ionization technique commonly produces [M - H] ions in high abundance. However, APCI (along with other atmospheric pressure sources) is often impacted by in-source oxidation, leading to a variety of ionic products. Identifying these products and understanding their mechanisms of formation is crucial for characterizing complex mixtures with substantial hydrocarbon content, such as those found in the petrochemical industry.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of e-cigarette use among teens and young adults has led to serious public health concerns, particularly regarding chronic gut inflammation caused by vaping.
  • Chronic vaping produces hydrogen sulfide, which can worsen health issues for people living with HIV by affecting metabolism and increasing susceptibility to diseases.
  • A study using advanced metabolomics on PWH who vape or smoke revealed significant changes in metabolic profiles, highlighting new biochemical links and the need to understand the health risks of vaping on this vulnerable population.

This paper reports the gathered information from an international environmental scan of university-baseline information for the creation of a Nursing Knowledge Network. An online environment scan of organizational context (February to October 2021) explored the identification of research areas, existing resources, expected benefits, innovations in teaching research, barriers to knowledge dissemination, and prospective contributions of the Network. Target informants were 200 nursing faculty affiliated with 63 universities located in 13 countries, as well as nursing networks in the Ibero-American context.

Aim: To translate, culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of an Italian version of the Active Empathic Listening Scale (AELS-It) for first year students on a Bachelor degree in nursing.

Background: Active and empathic listening is characterised by the active and emotional involvement of the listener and is particularly important for nurses to understand and address patients' needs. When nurses demonstrate to patients that they are active and empathic listeners, it leads to deeper engagement and trust, strengthens the nurse-patient relationship and enhances the quality of care.

Background: Undergraduate nursing students may experience several ethical challenges during their clinical learning placement that can lead to moral distress and intention to leave the profession. Ethical challenges are complex phenomena and ethical frameworks may help improve their understanding and provide actionable recommendations to enhance students' readiness for practice.

Aim: To explore undergraduate nursing students' ethical challenges experienced during their clinical learning and their suggestions for better ethics education; to illuminate students' experience against a foundational ethical framework.

Aim: To describe the activities nurses perceived to be delegable to other staff (delegable activities) in order to estimate the time nurses spend on delegable activities and explore nurses' reasons for not delegating these activities.

Design: Mixed-methods explanatory sequential.

Methods: In total, 236 nurses from 27 medical and surgical wards of five hospitals in northern Italy completed a web-based survey during a single shift between June and July 2022.

Improved oocyte competence for embryo development and pregnancy was observed following ovulation of preovulatory follicles with greater physiological maturity, as indicated by estradiol production, prior to the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced luteinizing hormone (LH) surge. It was hypothesized that follicular fluid from preovulatory follicles of greater maturity better supports the maturing oocyte's metabolic requirements and improves embryo development. The objective was to determine if differences in preovulatory follicular fluid due to follicle maturity influence oocyte metabolism during in vitro maturation (IVM) and affect embryo development.

Infertility or subfertility impacts approximately 5% and 15% of dairy and beef heifers (Bos taurus), respectively. Heifers that do not produce a calf within an optimum window of time have a significant negative impact on the profitability and sustainability of the cattle industry. Selection of heifers based on their fertility potential remains a challenge yet to be resolved.

Glucocorticoids (GCs) act through the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and are commonly used as anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant medications. Chronic GC use has been linked with unwanted complications such as steroid-induced diabetes mellitus (SIDM), although the mechanisms for these effects are not completely understood. Modification of six GC parent molecules with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole resulted in consistently less promoter activity in transcriptional activation assays using a 3xGRE reporter construct while constantly reducing inflammatory pathway activity.

A multigene phylogenetic assessment of North American species of is presented based on analyses of ITS, and 28S rDNA nucleotide data. This framework enables a systematic revision of the genus for 16 eastern North American species and captures taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity in a global context. A grade of two unusual and poorly known North American species stems from the most recent common ancestor of the genus that gives rise to three core subgroups named here as clades Unicolores, Nothosperma, and Mallocybe.

Two new supramolecular photocatalysts made of covalently linked Ru(II) polypyridine chromophore subunits ([Ru(bpy)3]2+-type species; bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and [RuL(pic)2] (L = 2,2'-bipyridine-6,6'-dicarboxylic acid; pic = 4-picoline) water oxidation catalyst subunits have been prepared. The new species, 1 and 2, contain chromophore and catalyst subunits in the molecular ratios 1:1 and 1:2, respectively. The model chromophore species [Ru(bpy)2(L1)]2+ (RuP1; L1=4-[2-(4-pyridyl)-2-hydroxyethyl]-4-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine) and [Ru(bpy)2(L2)]2+ (RuP2; L2 = 4,4'-bis[2-(4-pyridyl)-2-hydroxyethyl]-2,2'-bipyridine) have also been prepared.

Introduction: Quality improvement interventions are a promising strategy for reducing hospital services use among nursing home residents. However, evidence for their effectiveness is limited. It is unclear which characteristics of the quality improvement intervention and activities planned to facilitate implementation may promote fidelity to organisational and system changes.

We report the absorption spectra and photophysical properties of homo and hetero-aggregate assemblies of a strongly emissive N-annulated perylene dye (P) and of a dyad made of P and a methyl viologen derivative (P-MV), in ethanol-water solutions. In homo-aggregate assemblies of P, the π-π* fluorescence of the isolated chromophore is replaced by excimer emission at lower energy, with a lifetime of 900 ps, due to excimer formation from the initially prepared excitons. In homo-aggregate assemblies of P-MV, photoinduced charge separation, with formation of P -MV species, occurs in 3 ps with a charge recombination of 20 ps.
