A Comprehensive Meta-Analysis on the Role of Analgesics and Anti-Inflammatories in Pan-Retinal Photocoagulation.

Purpose: Pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP) is the mainstay of treatment for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), reducing the risk of severe vision loss. Pain poses a potential obstacle to effective laser delivery and patient compliance. Therefore, implementing pain relief strategies can enhance both treatment efficacy and patient comfort.

Post-vaccination anti-HBs testing among healthcare workers: More economical than post-exposure management for Hepatitis B.

Objective: to compare the direct cost, from the perspective of the Unified Health System, of assessing the post-vaccination serological status with post-exposure management for hepatitis B among health care workers exposed to biological material.

Method: cross-sectional study and cost-related, based on accident data recorded in the System of Information on Disease Notification between 2006 and 2016, where three post-exposure and one pre-exposure management scenarios were evaluated: A) accidents among vaccinated workers with positive and negative serological status tests for hepatitis B, exposed to known and unknown source-person; B) handling unvaccinated workers exposed to a known and unknown source-person; C) managing vaccinated workers and unknown serological status for hepatitis B and D) cost of the pre-exposure post-vaccination test. Accidents were assessed and the direct cost was calculated using the decision tree model.

Work accidents with biological material: factors associated with abandoning clinical and laboratory follow-up.

Objective: To analyze the epidemiology of abandoning clinical and laboratory follow-up among health workers who suffered accidents with biological material.

Method: Cohort study based on reported work accidents with biological material in Goiânia/Goiás. Data were analyzed in Stata with descriptive and analytical statistics.

This study describes experimental infection of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) infested with naturally infected Amblyomma ovale nymphs with Rickettsia sp. (Atlantic rainforest strain), and the capacity of A. ovale nymphs to transmit this bacterium.

Iron metabolism and its relationship to anemia and immune system in Trypanosoma evansi infected rats.

The aim of this study was to evaluate biochemical parameters of iron metabolism in rats experimentally infected with Trypanosoma evansi. To this end, 20 rats (Wistar) were intraperitoneally inoculated with blood containing trypomastigotes 10(6) (Group T) and 12 animals were used as negative control (Group C) and received saline (0.2 mL) through same route.

[Analysis of the information on visceral leishmaniasis available through Brazilian portals of the worldwide web--internet].

With the aim of analyzing the adequacy of the information on visceral leishmaniasis that is available through Brazilian portals, a survey was conducted through a search portal, with selection and analysis of electronic page content. Twenty-four pages with informative purposes were identified, of which eight belonged to government bodies, 10 were commercial and six were classified as others. Using a systematized analysis form, the content of topics considered essential, relating to transmission, reservoirs, control and disease, was evaluated.
