Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is characterized by regional pain that is disproportionate to the triggering event, with no distribution to dermatomes, a tendency towards chronicity, and dysfunction. This narrative review proposes an update of criteria for diagnosis and management of the syndrome, providing information on epidemiology, etiology, and pathophysiology. We base our information on systematic and narrative reviews, as well as guidelines published in recent years, aiming to facilitate diagnostic suspicion and provide a broad overview of therapeutic possibilities.

Method: This was a retrospective analysis on 24 patients aged 5-12 years with unstable femoral diaphysis fractures who underwent surgical treatment with elastic titanium intramedullary nails at the Cajuru University Hospital, Curitiba-PR, between April 2002 and March 2008, with a minimum follow-up of 36 months. The epidemiological data, angular deviations, leg shortening and bone consolidation were evaluated.
Background: The aim of this study was to compare histomorphometric changes and the results of immunohistochemical tests for VCAM, ICAM-1, CD4 and CD8 in normal placentas from HIV-seropositive pregnant women.
Methods: Samples of normal placentas were divided into 2 groups: healthy HIV-seronegative pregnant women (control group = C = 60) and HIV-seropositive women (experimental group = E = 57). Conventional histological sections were submitted to morphometric analysis and evaluated in terms of the immunohistochemical expression of ICAM-1, VCAM, CD4 and CD8.
