Blowflies are often the first to colonize a cadaver, making them valuable forensic indicators for estimating the post-mortem interval (PMI). However, understanding the decomposition process by blowflies in practice presents challenges due to the direct influence of adults and larvae on the process. Environmental factors can either hinder or stimulate colonization by different species, leading to variability across different settings.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the safety and complications of vaginal pessary use for women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) by comparing follow-up intervals of 3 months versus 6 months.
  • In this randomized clinical trial, 38 women with advanced POP were divided into two groups to assess the impact of differing cleaning and monitoring frequencies by a healthcare professional.
  • Results showed no significant difference in ulcerations between the groups, but the 6-month group had a higher incidence of bacterial vaginosis, suggesting more frequent follow-up may be beneficial.

Introduction: The efficacy of unilateral versus bilateral Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (TTNS) for women with Overactive Bladder Syndrome (OAB) remains uncertain.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of unilateral and bilateral TTNS in the tibial region in women with OAB.

Methods: This randomized, controlled, triple-blind clinical trial included women with OAB or urgency-predominant urinary incontinence (UUI).

This study aimed to develop a novel ureasil-polyether transdermal hybrid matrix (U-PEO) loaded with concentrated extract (AMCE), which exhibits potent anti-inflammatory activity. The extract was obtained by maceration, a method that allowed for the extraction of a high concentration of flavonoids (39.27 mg/g of extract).

Objective: This study aimed to translate and validate the Estro-Androgenic-Symptom Questionnaire in Women (EASQ-W) into Brazilian Portuguese language, as we hypothesized that this tool would be consistent for addressing the specific context of hormonal symptoms in menopause.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a total of 119 women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) and 119 climacteric women without GSM were included. The EASQ-W was translated, and its psychometric properties were rigorously examined.

Article Synopsis
  • Meningomyelocele is a serious neural tube defect and the most common structural birth defect affecting the central nervous system.
  • The Spina Bifida Sequencing Consortium found that deletions on chromosome 22q11.2 increase the risk of meningomyelocele by 23 times compared to the general population.
  • Research indicates that the deletion of specific genes in this region, combined with a lack of maternal folate, can significantly increase the risk of neural tube defects in offspring.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of home-based pelvic floor muscle training in women with urinary incontinence, addressing the difficulties arising from social isolation due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic by utilizing a specialized mobile app.

Methods: This randomized, single-group clinical trial aimed to assess the efficacy of pelvic floor muscle training guided by a mobile app (Diario Saúde) in women with stress urinary incontinence. Participants were instructed via telephone to engage in pelvic floor muscle training exercises twice a day for 30 days.

Introduction And Hypothesis: This study was aimed at evaluating the impact of a mobile app-guided pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) program on urinary symptoms and quality of life in women suffering from urinary incontinence.

Methods: The study included women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI), who underwent a structured interview and completed validated questionnaires, including the Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis (QUID), the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form (ICIQ-SF), and the Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire (I-QOL). These women were randomly assigned to one of two groups: the app group, which received a visual depiction on the expected contraction pattern through a mobile app to support their PFMT exercises, and the control (paper) group.

Elasmobranchs can bioaccumulate and biomagnify pollutants. However, few studies are directed to the effects of pollutants on the health of these animals, and in most cases, are limited to the analysis of biochemical markers. Thus, the incidence of genomic damage among shark species inhabiting a protected ocean island in the South Atlantic was investigated in association with the analysis of pollutants in seawater sample.

Coinfection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Leishmania impairs immune responses, increases treatment failure and relapse rates in patients with American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL), as well as visceral leishmaniasis (VL). There is insufficient data on the treatment, relapse, and secondary prophylaxis in patients coinfected with HIV/Leishmania in Brazil. This study investigated patients with HIV/ATL and HIV/VL to describe the outcome of leishmaniasis in patients assisted at a referral hospital of Brazilian midwestern region.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of postural changes in women who had urinary incontinence (UI) with myofascial dysfunction (MD) and women who had UI without MD in the pelvic floor muscles (PFM).

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with 234 women who had UI and were at least 18 years old at the urogynecology outpatient clinic of a tertiary academic hospital. The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Overactive Bladder were used to collect urinary data.

Statement Of Problem: Denture stomatitis affects complete denture wearers and is frequently treated with antifungals drugs, as well as treating the denture with sodium hypochlorite. Whether the limitations of these treatments can be overcome with local hygiene protocols that do not damage the denture materials or adversely affect the patient is unclear.

Purpose: The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the effect of denture hygiene protocols on complete denture wearers with denture stomatitis.

Background: Inflammasome-mediated neuroinflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of early brain injury (EBI) following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The activation of the TGR5 receptor has been shown to be neuroprotective in a variety of neurological diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the specific synthetic TGR5 agonist, INT-777, in attenuating NLRP3-ASC inflammasome activation and reducing neuroinflammation after SAH.
