Social cognitive or learning theory use to improve self-efficacy in musculoskeletal rehabilitation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: To review the rehabilitation research methodological quality and intervention effectiveness of studies that used social cognitive or learning theory principles to improve self-efficacy in patients with orthopedic or musculoskeletal conditions.

Design: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis of peer reviewed studies published in English was performed using the OVID and SPORTDiscus databases. Initial search terms were "social cognitive theory" or "social learning theory" combined with "rehabilitation".

Complication Risk After Treatment of Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures in the Medicare Population.

The study evaluated the incidence of and complications associated with the use of an intramedullary nail vs open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with a sliding compression hip screw and plate in treating intertrochanteric fractures. The authors hypothesized that the biomechanically stronger and less invasive intramedullary nail would have superior results and fewer complications compared with ORIF. Patients followed for up to 1 year postoperatively were identified from the 5% nationwide sample of Medicare administrative claims data (1998-2007) using the corresponding International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision, Clinical Modification, codes 820.

International knee documentation committee knee survey use after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a 2005-2012 systematic review and world region comparison.

Purpose: The purpose of this review was to evaluate International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) survey use after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction compared with other surveys and determine evidence levels and methodologic study quality by world region.

Methods: The Medline database was searched from January 2005 through December 2012.

Results: We identified 421 studies and 33 surveys.

Arthritis self-efficacy scale scores in knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing arthritis self-management education with or without exercise.

Study Design: Systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

Objective: To evaluate studies that used arthritis self-management education alone or with exercise to improve Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale scores of patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Increasing self-efficacy may improve patient knee osteoarthritis symptom management and function.
