We report new ruthenium complexes bearing the lipophilic bathophenanthroline (BPhen) ligand and dihydroxybipyridine (dhbp) ligands which differ in the placement of the OH groups ([(BPhen) Ru(n,n'-dhbp)]Cl with n = 6 and 4 in 1 and 2 , respectively). Full characterization data are reported for 1 and 2 and single crystal X-ray diffraction for 1 . Both 1 and 2 are diprotic acids.

Caring is costly: People avoid the cognitive work of compassion.

Compassion-the warm, caregiving emotion that emerges from witnessing the suffering of others-has long been considered an important moral emotion for motivating and sustaining prosocial behavior. Some suggest that compassion draws from empathic feelings to motivate prosocial behavior, whereas others try to disentangle these processes to examine their different functions for human prosociality. Many suggest that empathy, which involves sharing in others' experiences, can be biased and exhausting, whereas warm compassionate concern is more rewarding and sustainable.

Priorities for sexually transmitted infection vaccine research and development: Results from a survey of global leaders and representatives.

Objective: To determine the sexually transmitted infection (STI) vaccine research priorities of global leaders in STI vaccine research, development, and service provision.

Methods: Global representatives attending the symposium preceding the STI & HIV World Congress in 2019 were invited to complete an electronic survey. We asked participants to rank items by importance/priority for STI vaccine development for the following areas of focus: specific STIs (gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, and trichomoniasis), broad research domains (basic science, funding, communication, program planning, and vaccine hesitancy), and specific research activities related to these domains.

Traumatic Enthesophyte From a Chronic Pectoralis Major Tendon Rupture: A Case Report.

Case: A 24-year-old active duty soldier with a chronic pectoralis major tendon rupture presented a year later with a bony lesion consistent with an enthesophyte at the humeral insertion. The patient continued to have pain that was affecting his activities of daily living and underwent surgical intervention.

Conclusion: Operative management with enthesophyte excision and pectoralis major tendon repair provided relief to the patient's symptoms and return to preinjury levels of function as evaluated with Tegner, single assessment numeric evaluation, and visual analog scale scores at the 2-year follow-up.

The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Think Tank is a collaborative venture that brings together interventional cardiologists, administrative partners, and select members of the cardiovascular industry community annually for high-level field-wide discussions. The 2021 Think Tank was organized into four parallel sessions reflective of the field of interventional cardiology: (a) coronary intervention, (b) endovascular medicine, (c) structural heart disease, and (d) congenital heart disease. Each session was moderated by a senior content expert and co-moderated by a member of SCAI's Emerging Leader Mentorship program.

Objective: Head-to-head trials comparing siponimod with fingolimod or ofatumumab in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) are lacking. Instead, the comparative efficacy of siponimod can be derived from indirect treatment comparisons (ITCs). We explore the photophysical properties of a family of Ru(II) complexes, , designed as photosensitizers (PSs) for photodynamic therapy (PDT). The complexes incorporate a 1-imidazo[4,5-][1,10]-phenanthroline (ip) ligand appended to one or more thiophene rings. One of the complexes studied herein, (known as TLD1433), is currently in phase II human clinical trials for treating bladder cancer by PDT.

Structural Variation and Chemical Performance-A Study of the Effects of Chemical Structure upon Epoxy Network Chemical Performance.

Epoxy resins are used widely as protective coatings, in a wide range of harsh chemical environments. This work explores the influence of subtle structural variation in both epoxy and amine monomers upon chemical performance of cured networks, whether changing molecular geometry, the nature of the chemistry, or the mass between cross-linking reactive groups. To achieve this, four industrially relevant epoxy resins (two based on bisphenol A-Epikote 828 (E828) and Dow Epoxy Resin 332 (DER 332)-and two based on bisphenol F-Dow Epoxy Resin 354 (DER 354) and Araldite PY306 (PY306)) and the isomerically pure para-para-diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (ppDGEBF) were used to explore variation caused by epoxy monomer variation.

To identify proteins that support the structure of the ER, we performed a proteomic screen and identified nodal modulator (NOMO), a widely conserved type I transmembrane protein of unknown function, with three nearly identical orthologs specified in the human genome.

Comparing the accuracy of ICD-based severity estimates to trauma registry-based injury severity estimates for predicting mortality outcomes.

Introduction: Trauma registries have been used internationally for several decades to measure the quality of trauma care between hospitals. Given the significant costs involved in establishing and maintaining trauma registries, and increasing availability of routinely collected, linked health data describing a patient's journey (and inherent cost savings in data re-use), there is significant interest in development of integrated, comprehensive trauma data repositories. However, approaches to estimating injury severity using routinely collected data would need to be developed if routinely collected hospital data were to be used as an alternative/supplement to registries.

Introduction: The United States has been battling an opioid epidemic for decades. As substance use disorders have grown, so too has investigation into treatment options, including integrative medicine approaches, for managing opioid withdrawal symptoms (OWS).

Objectives: This systematic review sought to assess the use of integrative medicine approaches for the alleviation of OWS in patients dependent on opioids and to summarize the available data.

This article presents the psychometric properties of the Food Environment Assessment Survey Tool (FEAST) instrument that measures barriers to accessing healthy food from the perspective of people with mobility impairment (PMI).
