Considering the growing need for developing ecological materials, this study investigates the acoustic, mechanical, and thermal properties of wood composites reinforced with beech or oak wood fibres. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a complex network of interconnected pores within the composite materials, with varying pore sizes contributing to the material's overall properties. Acoustic characterization was conducted using a two-microphone impedance tube.

The present paper investigates the possibility of replacing the traditional L-type corner joint used in chair construction with a 3D printed connector, manufactured using the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) method and black PLA as filament. The connector was designed to assemble the legs with seat rails and stretchers, and it was tested under diagonal tensile and compression loads. Its performance was compared to that of the traditional mortise-and-tenon joint.

Kevlar and carbon fibres and fabrics have won a leading place in the structure market, although such materials are not cheap, and are increasingly used for reinforcing and strengthening structural elements in the civil engineering, automotive, aerospace and military industries, due to their superior mechanical properties, especially in terms of strength. The mechanical characteristics of such composite materials must be known in order to numerically simulate the mechanical behaviour of such structures in terms of the distribution of stresses and strains. It has also become a necessity to understand the effects of reinforcement with both types of fibres (carbon fibres and Kevlar fibres) on the mechanical properties, especially on the impact properties of such composites.

In large metal civil constructions (stadium roofs, bridges), slender bars can lose their stability under compression loading. There is a lack in the literature regarding design solutions and methods for increasing the critical buckling force of bars with variable cross-sections. The aim of this research is to present a numerical model with finite elements used for a comparative analysis of increasing the critical force of stability loss in cases of (i) bars with stepwise variation in the cross-sections and (ii) bars with continuous variation in the moment of inertia along the bar axis (parabolic, sinusoidal, triangular, and trapezoidal variation).

The worldwide use of pallet racking storage systems leads to the necessity for research regarding the effects of the clearance between the metallic tabs of the connector and upright slots (looseness effect) on the performance of load-bearing beams. Firstly, the looseness angle and the rotational stiffness were experimentally obtained for three types of beam-to-upright connections. A theoretical approach is used to investigate the magnitude of the looseness effects that occurred on the performances of the bearing beam of the pallet storage systems in terms of the bending moment developed at the midpoint of the beam and maximum deflection.

As hybrid carbon-aramid composites become widely used in various industries, it has become imperative to mechanically characterize them using accurate methods of measuring the entire deformation field such as the digital image correlation (DIC) method. The accuracy of the numerical simulation of carbon-aramid composite structures depends on the accuracy of the elastic constants. Therefore, the goal of this research is to model and simulate the mechanical behaviour of the composite based on epoxy resin reinforced with carbon-aramid woven fabric by considering the mechanical properties investigated by tensile test combined with DIC and the bending test.

The aspects regarding the stiffness of the connections between the beams that support the storage pallets and the uprights is very important in the analysis of the displacements and stresses in the storage racking systems. The main purpose of this paper is to study the effects of both upright thickness and tab connector type on the rotational stiffness and on the capable bending moment of the connection. For this purpose, a number of 18 different groups of beam-connector-upright assemblies are prepared by combining three types of beams (different sizes of the box cross section), three kinds of uprights profiles (with a different thickness of the section walls), and two types of connectors (four-tab connectors and five-tab connectors).

This research concerning the topic, pursues the design, manufacturing, analysis and testing of the manhole cover that may be used in pedestrian networks. Although there are certain commercially available manhole covers made of glass-reinforced composites, there are a few papers published related to the modelling, simulation and mechanical testing of such parts. Herein, the manhole cover is made of the sandwich composite.
