Background: Many adults with heart failure (HF) are physically frail and have worse outcomes. While the biological profile of physical frailty in HF has been examined, the behavioral profile remains unstudied. Physical frailty may impact self-care behaviors, particularly symptom monitoring and management (SMM), which in turn results in adverse outcomes.

Characteristics of Patients Hospitalized With Methamphetamine-Associated Heart Failure: A Comparative Study of Enrolled vs Nonenrolled Patients.

Background: Methamphetamine-associated heart failure (MethHF) carries devastating individual and societal consequences; however, our understanding of this condition is limited.

Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients hospitalized with MethHF with patients hospitalized with heart failure (HF) not associated with methamphetamine (non-MethHF).

Methods: This was an analysis of screening data from MethHF patients who screened out of the Biological and Physiological Mechanisms of Symptom Clusters in Heart Failure study and a subset of non-MethHF patients enrolled in the study.

Economic Evaluation of 9 Intersectoral Strategies to Improve Youth Mental Health and Alleviate Financial Burden in Colombia Using System Dynamics Modeling.

Objectives: Limited evidence exists for strategic actions in improving mental health at the youth population-level, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This study investigates the health and economic impacts of intersectoral mental health programs to inform the optimal suite of interventions for young people in Bogotá, Colombia, where many are at risk of mental disorders and lack access to appropriate health services.

Methods: This study evaluated 9 interventions compared with business as usual over a projected 10-year time horizon using a system dynamics model developed through a participatory process involving diverse local stakeholders.

Little is known about the impacts of living in diaspora from the Hawaiian Islands on Native Hawaiian health. To address this, the authors conducted an exploratory analysis using cross-sectional data from the 2021 Native American COVID-19 Alliance Needs Assessment. A total of 1418 participants identified as Native Hawaiian (alone or in any combination), of which 1222 reported residency in the continental US and 196 in Hawai'i.

Background: Lifestyle factors are linked to differences in brain aging and risk for Alzheimer's disease, underscored by concepts like 'cognitive reserve' and 'brain maintenance'. The Resilience Index (RI), a composite of 6 factors (cognitive reserve, physical and cognitive activities, social engagement, diet, and mindfulness) provides such a holistic measure.

Objective: This study aims to examine the association of RI scores with cognitive function and assess the mediating role of cortical atrophy.

Facile one-pot synthesis of lithium metal nanoparticles for superior lithium-ion anode applications.

A capable one-step method, femtosecond laser ablation of solids in liquids, was successfully applied to prepare lithium metal nanoparticles to mitigate the initial capacity loss and improve the electrochemical performance of a graphite-based electrode as a Li-host anode. Remarkably, according to the physicochemical characterization, this advanced optical method allowed to obtain uniform spheroidal and crystalline Li nanoparticles with an average particle size <20 nm. These novel ultrafine Li nanoparticles significantly decrease the initial capacity loss of a graphite-based anode, leading to reach high coulombic efficiency (>99 %), good specific charge capacity (322 mAh/g), and superior capacity retention (96 %) at an applied current density of 100 mA g after 200 cycles.

Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome and Nutcracker Syndrome as the Presentation of Crohn's Disease in a Young Patient: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome and nutcracker syndrome are rare vascular complications most often seen after marked weight loss caused by compression of the duodenum and left renal vein between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta, respectively. The coexistence of superior mesenteric artery syndrome and nutcracker syndrome has been rarely reported. Herein, we present the case of a 16-year-old male with intermittent periumbilical abdominal pain, bilious vomiting, and weight loss who was found to have both of these vascular complications of significant weight loss as the initial presentation of Crohn's disease.

Can participatory processes lead to changes in the configuration of local mental health networks? A social network analysis.

Systems modeling offers a valuable tool to support strategic decision-making for complex problems because it considers the causal inter-relationships that drive population health outcomes. This tool can be used to simulate policies and initiatives to determine which combinations are likely to deliver the greatest impacts and returns on investment. Systems modeling benefits from participatory approaches where a multidisciplinary stakeholder group actively engages in mapping and contextualizing causal mechanisms driving complex system behaviors.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura in the setting of COVID-19 infection: Two pediatrics cases and review of the literature.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most common systemic vasculitis in children, often following a viral infection. Various types of rashes attributed to COVID-19 infection have been described in the literature; however, HSP has rarely been reported. We report two children with HSP associated with acute COVID-19 infection with a review of the available literature.

Global dataset of soil organic carbon in tidal marshes.

Tidal marshes store large amounts of organic carbon in their soils. Field data quantifying soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks provide an important resource for researchers, natural resource managers, and policy-makers working towards the protection, restoration, and valuation of these ecosystems. We collated a global dataset of tidal marsh soil organic carbon (MarSOC) from 99 studies that includes location, soil depth, site name, dry bulk density, SOC, and/or soil organic matter (SOM).

Neighborhood greenspace and neighborhood income associated with white matter grade worsening: Cardiovascular Health Study.

Introduction: We examined whether a combined measure of neighborhood greenspace and neighborhood median income was associated with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and ventricle size changes.

Methods: The sample included 1260 cognitively normal ≥ 65-year-olds with two magnetic resonance images (MRI; ≈ 5 years apart). WMH and ventricular size were graded from 0 (least) to 9 (most) abnormal (worsening = increase of ≥1 grade from initial to follow-up MRI scans).

Deep molecular tracking over the 12-yr development of endometrial cancer from hyperplasia in a single patient.

Although the progressive histologic steps leading to endometrial cancer (EndoCA), the most common female reproductive tract malignancy, from endometrial hyperplasia are well-established, the molecular changes accompanying this malignant transformation in a single patient have never been described. We had the unique opportunity to investigate the paired histologic and molecular features associated with the 12-yr development of EndoCA in a postmenopausal female who could not undergo hysterectomy and instead underwent progesterone treatment. Using a specially designed 58-gene next-generation sequencing panel, we analyzed a total of 10 sequential biopsy samples collected over this time frame.

Herein, we shall unveil the binding and photochemical mechanisms of gold shell-isolated nanorods (AuSHINRs) on bioinspired bacterial membranes assembled as Langmuir and Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) monolayers of DOPE, Lysyl-PG, DOPG and CL.

Emerging drugs for dementia with Lewy Bodies: a review of Phase II & III trials.

Introduction: Despite faster cognitive decline and greater negative impact on patients and family caregivers, drug development efforts in Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) fall behind those for Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Current off-label drug DLB treatment options are limited to symptomatic agents developed to address cognitive deficits in AD, motor deficits in Parkinson's Disease, or behavioral symptoms in psychiatric disease. Aided by recent improvements in DLB diagnosis, a new focus on the development of disease-modifying agents (DMA) is emerging.

Langmuir and Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) films were handled to build biomembranes from BT-474 lipid extract.

Current treatment for prostate cancer is dependent on the stages of the cancer, recurrence, and genetic factors. Treatment varies from active surveillance or watchful waiting to prostatectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy in combination or alone. Although radical prostate cancer therapy reduces the advancement of the disease and its mortality, the increased disease treatment associated morbidity, erectile dysfunction, and incontinence affect the quality of life of cancer survivors.

Sexual dysfunction worsens both the general and specific quality of life of women with irritable bowel syndrome. A cross-sectional study.

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and sexual dysfunction (SxD) lowers quality of life (QOL) separately, but the effect of their overlap in unselected populations has not been studied.

Objective: To evaluate the QOL of IBS women with and without SxD and compare it with controls.

Methods: In this cross-sectional assessment, we studied 51 IBS women (Rome IV criteria) and 54 controls.

Mindfulness and Care Experience in Family Caregivers of Persons Living with Dementia.

Background: Greater mindfulness, the practice of awareness and living in the moment without judgement, has been linked to positive caregiving outcomes in dementia caregivers and its impact attributed to greater decentering and emotion regulation abilities. Whether the impact of these mindfulness-based processes varies across caregiver subgroups is unclear.

Objective: Analyze cross-sectional associations between mindfulness and caregiver psychosocial outcomes, considering different caregiver and patient characteristics.
