Background: Our objective was to assess the effect of a hybrid telemedicine approach, in conjunction with face-to-face follow-up, on the quality of life in recent users of an advanced hybrid closed-loop (AHCL) system.
Methods: A 1-year open randomized (1:1) clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov ID NCT04900636).
Drug-carrying nanoparticles are a promising strategy to deliver therapeutics into the brain, but their translation requires better characterization of interactions between nanomaterials and endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Here, we use a library of 18 layer-by-layer electrostatically assembled nanoparticles (NPs) to independently assess the impact of NP core and surface materials on in vitro uptake, transport, and intracellular trafficking in brain endothelial cells. We demonstrate that NP core stiffness determines the magnitude of transport, while surface chemistry directs intracellular trafficking.

Methods: In this study, we employed the noninvasive intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique to examine brain fractional perfusion (FP) in two groups: individuals with obesity (N = 72) and healthy controls (N = 66). Additionally, we investigated potential associations between FP, cognitive function, and depressive symptoms in the participants with and without obesity.
Wastewater networks are subject to several threats leading to wastewater leakages and public health hazards. External elements such as natural factors and human activities are common causes of wastewater leakages and require more in-depth analysis. Prevention and rehabilitation work is essential to secure wastewater networks and avoid pipe failures.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study including 46 subjects with T1D flash glucose monitoring (FGM) or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) switching to a Minimed 780G® system. Patients were classified in three groups according to the therapy used before switching to Minimed® 780G: multiple dose insulin (MDI) therapy + FGM (n = 6), continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion + FGM (n = 21), and sensor-augmented pump with predictive low-glucose suspend (n = 19).

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo dissect therapeutic mechanisms of transplanted stem cells and develop exosome-based nanotherapeutics in treating autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, we assessed the effect of exosomes secreted from human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in treating multiple sclerosis using an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model. We found that intravenous administration of exosomes produced by MSCs stimulated by IFNγ (IFNγ-Exo) (i) reduced the mean clinical score of EAE mice compared to PBS control, (ii) reduced demyelination, (iii) decreased neuroinflammation, and (iv) upregulated the number of CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) within the spinal cords of EAE mice. Co-culture of IFNγ-Exo with activated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) cells in vitro reduced PBMC proliferation and levels of pro-inflammatory Th1 and Th17 cytokines including IL-6, IL-12p70, IL-17AF, and IL-22 yet increased levels of immunosuppressive cytokine indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase.

The organocatalysed asymmetric reaction of different β-disubstituted-α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with a chiral α,β-unsaturated aldehyde in the presence of a Jørgensen-Hayashi organocatalyst provides easy and stereocontrolled access to the cyclohexadienal backbone. This method allows for the synthesis of potential photoprotective chiral 1,3-cyclohexadienals and extra extended conjugation compounds in a simple manner.

To date, efforts to generate engineered lung tissue capable of long-term function have been limited by incomplete barrier formation between air and blood and by thrombosis of the microvasculature upon exposure of blood to the collagens within the decellularized scaffold. Improved barrier function and resistance to thrombosis both depend upon the recapitulation of a confluent monolayer of functional endothelium throughout the pulmonary vasculature. This manuscript describes novel strategies to increase cell coverage of the vascular surface area, compared to previous reports in our lab and others, and reports robust production of multiple anticoagulant substances that will be key to long-term function in vivo once additional strides are made in improving barrier function.

Owing to its chemical properties, tyramine can react with nitrite, a common food additive, in the acidic medium of stomach to form N- and C-nitroso compounds. Since toxicology studies have shown that the product of C-nitrosation of tyramine is mutagenic, in the present article tyramine nitrosation mechanisms have been characterized in order to discern which of them are favoured under conditions similar to those in the human stomach lumen.
