Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and PIVKA II in the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), emphasizing improved detection with imaging techniques.
  • A systematic review included 37 studies with over 5,000 HCC patients and nearly 8,200 control patients, comparing the diagnostic performance of PIVKA II and AFP.
  • Results showed PIVKA II has a higher diagnostic accuracy for HCC than AFP, suggesting that using both markers together could enhance diagnostic capabilities alongside ultrasound exams.
