Background: Patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis often suffer from loss of skeletal muscle mass and require extensive surgery. Multimodal prehabilitation may improve physical status but its benefits for these specific patients remain unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of prehabilitation on functional walking capacity and skeletal muscle mass, as well as its association with postoperative complications.

Introduction: Solid pseudopapillary tumors (SPT) of the pancreas are rare exocrine neoplasms of the pancreas. Correct preoperative diagnosis is not always feasible. The treatment of choice is surgical excision.

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy plus Interval Cytoreductive Surgery with or without Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (NIHIPEC) in the Treatment of Advanced Ovarian Cancer: A Multicentric Propensity Score Study.

Introduction: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is primarily confined to the peritoneal cavity. When primary complete surgery is not possible, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is provided; however, the peritoneum-plasma barrier hinders the drug effect. The intraperitoneal administration of chemotherapy could eliminate residual microscopic peritoneal tumor cells and increase this effect by hyperthermia.

Spontaneous emotional regulation under experimental emotional condition: The role of working memory.

The present research studied the bidirectional effects of working memory (WM) capacity and emotional regulation; that is, the effect of WM capacity on spontaneous emotional regulation and whether the emotional valence to be regulated has a differential impact on performance in a second WM task. Participants (79) first completed a WM span task (Digit Span), then a self-report emotional intelligence task, which was followed by randomly assigned mock Positive-feedback, Negative-feedback, or No-feedback. In the Negative-feedback and Positive-feedback conditions, a dummy report based on participants' responses to the Trait Meta Mood- 21 was shown on the screen.

Objective measurement of Spanish emotion vocabulary.

Current research on emotion knowledge and competence emphasises the role of language. Emotion vocabulary is one of the indicators of emotion knowledge that can be objectively measured; however, the metric properties of the scores obtained in tests and tasks to measure it have seldom been adequate. In this study we designed and validated a Spanish emotion vocabulary test (MOVE) employing a corpus approach to construct cloze multiple-choice items, administered the test to a Spanish-speaking sample from two countries, Spain and Argentina, and analysed structural validity of the test items with the Rasch model measurement approach.

Carbonate weathering, phosphate fertilizer, and hydrologic controls on dissolved uranium in rivers in the US Corn Belt: Disentangling seasonal geogenic- and fertilizer-derived sources.

Soil and bedrock weathering and phosphate (P) fertilizers may both contribute to the uranium (U) load of rivers in agricultural regions, but controls over their relative influence are not well known. This study investigates the U sources to rivers in Ohio, United States, part of the Eastern Corn Belt in the Mississippi River watershed. We present a regional picture of seasonal U sources to rivers based on four analyses: 1) a spatial analysis of legacy soil and water data, 2) new measurements of U and carbonate weathering products from rivers at 50 locations across the state collected seasonally over two years, 3) a weekly time series with additional U/U (n = 5) and Sr/Sr (n = 5) measurements from an agricultural river, and 4) a mass-balance approach to U addition to the landscape based on reported P fertilizer use.

Dragon fruit cultivation is an emerging industry in Ecuador. In August of 2020, yellow dragon fruit plants (Hylocereus megalantus) showing brown hardened scabs on cladodes and fruits were observed in a field in Guayas, a coastal province of Ecuador (Fig. 1A).

Perinatal and long-term outcome of endoscopic laser surgery for twin-twin transfusion syndrome with and without selective fetal growth restriction: A retrospective cohort study.

Objective: Report survival rates, neonatal mortality and morbidity and long-term outcomes of monochorionic (MC) twin pregnancies complicated by twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) or TTTS plus selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) treated by endoscopic laser surgery.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study including 149 MC twin pregnancies complicated by TTTS or TTTS plus sFGR.Medical records were reviewed for survival rates, neonatal mortality, neonatal morbidity and long-term outcomes at 2 and 6 years of age.

Vascular injury during cholecystectomy: A multicenter critical analysis behind the drama.

Background: The management of a vascular injury during cholecystectomy is still very complicated, especially in centers not specialized in complex hepatobiliary surgery.

Methods: This was a multi-institutional retrospective study in patients with vascular injuries during cholecystectomy from 18 centers in 4 countries. The aim of the study was to analyze the management of vascular injuries focusing on referral, time to perform the repair, and different treatments options outcomes.

Machine Learning-Based Analysis in the Management of Iatrogenic Bile Duct Injury During Cholecystectomy: a Nationwide Multicenter Study.

Background: Iatrogenic bile duct injury (IBDI) is a challenging surgical complication. IBDI management can be guided by artificial intelligence models. Our study identified the factors associated with successful initial repair of IBDI and predicted the success of definitive repair based on patient risk levels.

GECOP-MMC: phase IV randomized clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) with mytomicin-C after complete surgical cytoreduction in patients with colon cancer peritoneal metastases.

Background: The French PRODIGE 7 trial, published on January 2021, has raised doubts about the specific survival benefit provided by HIPEC with oxaliplatin 460 mg/m (30 minutes) for the treatment of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer. However, several methodological flaws have been identified in PRODIGE 7, specially the HIPEC protocol or the choice of overall survival as the main endpoint, so its results have not been assumed as definitive, emphasizing the need for further research on HIPEC. It seems that the HIPEC protocol with high-dose mytomicin-C (35 mg/m) is the preferred regime to evaluate in future clinical studies.

Effect of Preoperative Immunonutrition on Postoperative Major Morbidity after Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC in Patients with Peritoneal Metastasis.

The effect of preoperative immunonutrition intake on postoperative major complications in patients following cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with or without hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) was assessed. Acute Hypoxia Induces Enkephalin Production and Release in an Adrenergic Cell Line Model of Neonatal Chromaffin Cell Responses to Hypoxic Stress.

Objective: Prior to maturation of the human sympathetic nervous system, the neonatal adrenal medulla senses and responds to hypoxia. In addition to catecholamine release, the adrenal medulla synthesizes and stores opioid peptides, notably enkephalin (ENK). However, it is not known whether acute hypoxia evokes adrenal ENK production and release, as seen in the central nervous system (CNS).

Overview of aortic aneurysm management in the endovascular era.

Management of aortic aneurysm disease has changed in the endovascular era, with the majority of patients opting for stent-graft repair of abdominal and thoracic aneurysms. An understanding of this vascular condition is important for primary care, emergency medicine, medicine specialists, and vascular surgeons alike. Awareness of the patient risk factors for aneurysmal degeneration, sac rupture, and medical management allows physicians to screen appropriate patient populations, which decreases aneurysm-related mortality due to rupture.

Aggressive Costoclavicular Junction Decompression in Patients with Threatened AV Access.

Background: A substantial number of patients with threatened arteriovenous (AV) access are found to have stenoses at the costoclavicular junction (CCJ), which frequently are resistant to angioplasty and stenting. We believe that stenoses in this location will not resolve unless bony decompression is performed to relieve the extrinsic compression on the vein. This article describes our short- to medium-term results following such decompression in patients with failing fistulae.

Background: The lymph node ratio (LNR) and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) have been proposed to minimize the stage migration phenomenon. Renal cell carcinoma accompanied by venous invasion and inferior vena cava thrombus: classification and operative strategies for the vascular surgeon.

Venous invasion is a common characteristic of renal cell carcinoma, manifesting as tumor thrombus with possible extension into the renal vein and, in extensive cases, the thrombus can reach from the renal vein to the right atrium. Currently, cytoreductive nephrectomy and tumor thrombectomy are the foundations for improving quality of life and survival in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, and a role has emerged for a vascular specialist to become an integral part of operative planning and therapy.
