This study focused on standard Compact Tension (CT) specimens and two loading modes during the numerical analyses carried out, namely: pure mode I and mixed-mode loading (Modes I+II). Numerical stress intensity factors, K, were calculated using Abaqus 2022 and compared with those given analytically under pure mode I loading, showing very good agreement. Additionally, K, K, and K results obtained from Abaqus were presented for mixed-mode loading, analyzing crack growth and variation through the thickness of the CT specimen.

This is a case report of a 50-year-old woman with HIV/HCV coinfection who was diagnosed with an HPV-related well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. After undergoing modified radical vulvectomy and bilateral inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy, the patient developed a rectovaginal fistula and a diverting colostomy was placed. During a postoperative contrast enema study, a curvilinear hyperdense stripe was noted, representing the radiodense marker thread of a retained surgical sponge.

Purpose: The current gold standard measure to assess polishing efficacy is surface roughness (SR) assessed in laboratory research. Specular gloss (SG) has been negatively correlated to SR, which raises the following question: Can SG be used to accurately determine the effectiveness of a finishing/polishing procedure in direct resin composites?

Methods: A systematic approach and search strategy, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, was developed and conducted in five electronic databases: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE (Ovid), and SciELO/LILACS to identify laboratory studies that assessed SR and SG, simultaneously, of resin composites, without date or language restriction. The speech recognition levels of cochlear implant (CI) users are still incompatible with ICAO hearing requirements for civil aviation pilots testing in the noisy background condition of the helicopter cockpit. In this study, we evaluated noise attenuation effects on speech recognition in the same background condition. The study involved the evaluation of 12 Portuguese-speaking CI users with post-lingual deafness and with a pure tone average up to 35 dB HL between 500 and 2000 Hz and up to 50 dB at 3000 Hz on at least one of the ears, and of three normal hearing pilots (controls).
