People with severe mental disorders experience premature mortality compared with the general population. Several factors contribute to the mortality gap, including the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle behaviours, poor screening for physical illnesses, difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities, specific clinical features of mental disorders and some pharmacological treatment such as antipsychotic medications with serious metabolic side effects. In the present study, carried out in the framework of the LIFESTYLE trial, a funded nationwide multicentric study, we aimed to assess the impact of different antipsychotics in mediating the effectiveness of psychosocial intervention on healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Our hypothesis is that serum inflammatory markers may be increased during clinical quiescent phases of diverticulitis and will drop after elective laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for uncomplicated recurrent diverticulitis. We also believe that a drop in IL-6 levels across surgery could be related to an improved quality of life.

The aim of this study was to compare the oncological outcomes of patients undergoing MIPR and open pancreatic resection (OPR) for pancreatic head cancer in a single high-volume center.
Methods: Data from a prospectively collected database of patients who underwent radical-intent surgery for resectable and borderline resectable PDAC of the head at our institution between January 2013 and May 2023 were retrieved and analyzed, comparing the surgical and oncological outcomes of MIPR and OPR, using a propensity score matching analysis.
Deficits in social cognition (SC) interfere with recovery in schizophrenia (SZ) and may be related to resting state brain connectivity. This study aimed at assessing the alterations in the relationship between resting state functional connectivity and the social-cognitive abilities of patients with SZ compared to healthy subjects. We divided the brain into 246 regions of interest (ROI) following the Human Healthy Volunteers Brainnetome Atlas.

Moreover, the efficacy of the intervention has also been tested on several other physical and mental health domains. Patients were randomly allocated to receive the six-month experimental intervention (LIFESTYLE) or a behavioural control intervention.

The influence of genetic background on such interactions is poorly understood. The stress-hyperresponsive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rat strain, which models aspects of anxiety and depression, displays enhanced sensitivity to noxious stimuli and impaired cognitive function, compared with Sprague-Dawley (SD) counterparts.

However, the relationship between language and high-order cognition seems to evade this canonical and unidirectional description (ie, the notion of language as a simple means of thought communication). In recent years, clinical high at-risk mental state (CHARMS) criteria (evolved from the Ultra-High-Risk paradigm) and the introduction of the Clinical Staging system have been proposed to address the dynamicity of early psychopathology.

The Apathy Evaluation Scale (AES) is a tool exploring the perception of apathy by both caregivers (CG-AES) and patients (PT-AES), and the discrepancy in their ratings is a proxy of patients' disease unawareness.
Objective: To assess in a cohort study of patients with amnesic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) whether apathy and awareness of apathy predict progression to dementia and timing.
Introduction: With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the terms quarantine, contagion and infection have again become part of our everyday speech, prompting historians to reflect on the settings in which they were originally used and to make comparisons with the present time. How did people cope with epidemics in the past? What measures were taken?
Objectives: Here, we analyse the institutional response of the Republic of Genoa to a calamity that shook the city - the plague of 1656-1657. In doing so, we focus particularly on the public health measures implemented, as recorded also in unpublished and archival documents.
An increasing number of cities are interested in deep geothermal energy in order to increase the share of renewable energies in their district heating networks. To reduce the risks related to deep geothermal energy operations, reliable digital models are needed: they make it possible to predict the depth of aquifers away from borehole locations, and their thermal and hydrological evolution by supporting detailed water and heat flow simulations. This paper presents a 3D geomodel developed for this purpose in the southern Paris Basin of France in the Orléans area.

The study, funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, has been carried out in six Italian University psychiatric outpatient units. All patients were randomly assigned to the experimental or control group and were assessed through standardized assessment instruments at baseline and six months after randomization.

Methods: Prospectively collected data of consecutive patients undergoing PD and receiving routine postoperative CT imaging were retrospectively analyzed.
This paper aims at sharing 3D geological models that were constructed at different scales in two Mexican geothermal areas as part of the European-Mexican GEMex project. The project was devoted to investigate superhot resources in Los Humeros and enhanced geothermal systems in Acoculco, both areas located in eastern Mexico. To build confidence in the resultant datasets and to potentially inform the development of models in similar contexts, the methodology is also described.

In this randomized controlled trial (RCT), we assessed in a sample of people with bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia spectrum disorder, the efficacy of an innovative psychosocial group intervention compared to a brief psychoeducational group intervention on patients' body mass index (BMI), body weight, waist circumference, Framingham and HOMA-IR indexes.
Methods: This is a multicentric RCT with blinded outcome assessments carried out in six Italian university centers.
Introduction: Patients with severe mental disorders (namely schizophrenia, major depression and bipolar disorder) have a reduced life expectancy of at least 10 to 25 years compared with the general population. This mortality gap is due to the higher prevalence of comorbid physical disorders (such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases) in these patients compared to the general population. Factors contributing to the mortality gap include lack of access to primary care services, severity of clinical symptoms, internalized stigma and discrimination by healthcare professionals, pharmacological treatments and unhealthy lifestyle behaviours.

However, few studies have examined the functionality of this system in rodent models of social impairment. Deficits in social motivation and cognition are observed in rodents following pre-natal exposure to the anti-epileptic valproic acid (VPA), however it is not known whether MOP functionality is altered in these animals.

Methods: Patients were identified from an Italian multi-institutional database and randomly selected to be included in either a derivation or validation set. Multivariate logistic regression models and ROC curve analysis including either CCI or CDC as predictors of e-LOS were fitted to compare predictive performance.
Chronic pain is often comorbid with anxiety and depression, altering the level of perceived pain, which negatively affects therapeutic outcomes. The role of the endogenous mu-opioid receptor (MOP) system in pain-negative affect interactions and the influence of genetic background thereon are poorly understood. The inbred Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rat, which mimics aspects of anxiety and depression, displays increased sensitivity (hyperalgesia) to noxious stimuli, compared with Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.

Methods: Data on depressive symptoms (Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia) and insight (G12 item from the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale) were obtained from 921 community-dwelling, clinically-stable individuals with a DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia, recruited in a nationwide multicenter study. Network analysis was used to explore the most relevant connections between insight and depressive symptoms, including potential confounders in the model (neurocognitive and social-cognitive functioning, positive, negative and disorganization symptoms, extrapyramidal symptoms, hostility, internalized stigma, and perceived discrimination).
Altered social behaviours are a hallmark of several psychiatric and developmental disorders. Clinical and preclinical data have demonstrated that prenatal exposure to valproic acid (VPA), an anti-epileptic and mood stabiliser, is associated with impaired social responses, and thus provides a useful model for the evaluation of neurobiological mechanisms underlying altered social behaviours. The opioid system is widely recognised to regulate and modulate social behaviours, however few studies have examined if the endogenous opioid system is altered in animal models of social impairment.

More recently, the functions of the cerebellum have been extended beyond sensorimotor control to include participation in higher-level cognition and affective regulation. Consistently, the "cognitive dysmetria" theory posits that dysfunctions of cortical-subcortical-cerebellar circuitry may be crucial for the pathogenesis of different clinical features of schizophrenia.
