Objective: Pneumonia is a common and serious infectious disease that affects the older adult population. Severe pneumonia can lead to high mortality and morbidity in this group. Therefore, it is important to identify the risk factors and develop a prediction model for severe pneumonia in older adult patients.

Purpose: To present a case series of Cushing's syndrome (CS) during pregnancy caused by adrenocortical adenomas, highlighting clinical features, hormonal assessments and outcomes.
Methods: We describe five pregnant women with CS, detailing clinical presentations and laboratory findings.
Results: Common clinical features included a full moon face, buffalo back and severe hypertension.
Purpose: When hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is closely associated with the left branch of the portal vein, there is still controversy regarding the surgical approach.
Methods: This study enrolled 330 HCC patients with tumors adjacent to the left branch of the portal vein. Among them, 85 patients underwent left hemihepatectomy (LH), while the remaining 235 underwent liver lobectomy (LL), which included left medial segmentectomy or left lateral sectionectomy.
Aim: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-specific syndrome characterized by hypertension and proteinuria. Recently, multiple circular RNAs (circRNAs) were considered latent clinical diagnostic markers or therapeutic targets. This study was to explore the impact of circRNA serum and glucocorticoid-induced kinase 1 (SGK1) on PE via influencing the microRNA (miR)-508-3p/PUM homolog 1 (PUM1) axis.

Methods: The clinical data of 906 patients with HCC who underwent hepatic resection in our hospital from January 2013 to January 2015 were collected retrospectively. All patients were divided into anatomical resection (AR) (n = 234) and nonanatomical resection (NAR) group (n = 672) according to type of hepatic resection.
Background: Patients with abnormally invasive placenta (AIP) are at high risk of massive postpartum hemorrhage. Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA), as an adjunct therapeutic strategy for hemostasis, offers the obstetrician an alternative for treating patients with AIP. This study aimed to evaluate the role of REBOA in hemorrhage control in patients with AIP.

The study objective was the development of nomograms to predict disease recurrence and overall survival (OS) in these patients.
Methods: Data were obtained from 1046 HBV-related MVI-positive HCC patients who had undergone curative resection from January 2014 to December 2017.
Background: WeChat has become a potent medium for disseminating public health information, especially during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. WeChat is important for public health organizations when considering users' information needs and preferences to further explore factors that affect user engagement.
Methods: We collected data from WeChat official accounts (WOAs) of the Chinese provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to identify factors affecting and predicting the behavior of user engagement as measured by the level of reading and re-sharing during different phases of the COVID-19 pandemic between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020.
Background: Nogo-66 receptor (NgR1) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked cell surface receptor with high affinity for Nogo-66. The binding of Nogo-66 to NgR1 plays a key role in inhibiting neurite growth, limiting synaptic plasticity and mediating Mammalian Reovirus (MRV) infection. The Chinese tree shrew () is, a new and valuable experimental animal that is widely used in biomedical research.

Methods: A tree shrew model of corneal fungal infection was established by injecting into the corneal stroma to study the role of miR-204-3p in repairing corneal injury induced by fungal keratitis and to explore the potential mechanisms underlying the repair process.
Background: This study aimed to examine the influence of serum inflammatory marker levels on long-term outcomes after liver resection in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).
Methods: Data from 1189 consecutive ICC patients who underwent liver resection were reviewed. The serum neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) were measured before surgery.
Background: The product of the SEC14L2 (SEC14 Like Lipid Binding 2) gene belongs to a family of lipid-binding proteins including Sec14p, alpha-tocopherol transfer protein, and cellular retinol-binding protein. SEC14L2 expression enables replication of clinical hepatitis C virus (HCV) isolates in several hepatoma cell lines, and mutations in SEC14L2 may enhance HCV replication in vitro. The Chinese tree shrew (Tupaia belangeri chinensis) is a potential animal model for studying HCV replication, however, the cDNA sequence, protein structure, and expression of the Chinese tree shrew SEC14L2 gene have yet to be characterized.

This study explored the effects of OSM on foam cell formation and its corresponding molecular mechanisms.
Methods: THP-1 cells were treated with phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) to induce macrophage differentiation and were then exposed to oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL).
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of drug-coated balloon and non-drug-coated balloon combined with bare metal stent implantation for the treatment of patients with occlusions of the superficial femoral artery.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 83 patients with occlusions of the superficial femoral artery were included. Among them, 41 patients received paclitaxel drug coated balloon treatment combined with bare metal stent implantation treatment (experimental group), the remaining 42 received non-drug-coated balloon treatment (control group).
Background: The Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 protein, a multi-transmembrane domain molecule, is critical for intestinal cholesterol absorption, and is the entry factor for hepatitis C virus (HCV). The Chinese tree shrew (Tupaia belangeri chinensis) is closer to primates in terms of genetic evolution than rodents. Previous studies indicated that the tree shrew was suitable for HCV research; however, little is known about tree shrew NPC1L1.

In this study, the full-length tree shrew gene was cloned and sequenced, and its biological information was analyzed. The expression levels of ACE2, TMPRSS2 and TMPRSS4 in various tissues or organs of the tree shrew were detected.

To search for systems biomarker candidates, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), a housekeeping protein expressed in all living cells, was investigated. To this end, we analyzed the serum LDH activities from 172,933 patients with 48 clinically defined diseases and 9528 healthy individuals.

At a mechanistic level, PE is characterized by reduced invasion ability of trophoblasts. Collagen triple helix repeat containing-1 (CTHRC1) is a well-known tumor-promoting factor in several malignant tumors, but its role in trophoblasts remains unknown.

The present study aimed to elucidate the key signaling pathways in choroidal neovascularization (CNV) by analyzing the mRNA profiles of choroid and retina in tree shrews with CNV. We induced choroidal angiogenesis by laser photocoagulation in 15 tree shrews and obtained mRNA profiles of their choroids and retinas by high-throughput transcriptome sequencing.

Tree shrews have potential as an animal model for the study of breast tumours; however, little is known regarding the transcriptome and DNA methylome landscapes of breast IP in tree shrews. In this research, we conducted whole-genome DNA methylation and transcriptome analyses of breast IP and normal mammary glands in tree shrews.

Tree shrews are an emerging experimental animal model for the study of human diseases due to their resemblance of genetic characteristics to primate animals. Herein we report that dengue infection in tree shrews elicits resemble clinical symptoms as in humans.
