Article Synopsis
  • Surgical outcomes for patients with giant retrocerebellar arachnoid cysts are often poor, prompting researchers to investigate if a pressure gradient between the cyst and ventricular system contributes to symptoms like headaches.
  • Researchers monitored intracyst and intraventricular pressures in 5 patients and found no significant pressure increase in most cases, but did notice some gradient in those with previous cyst surgeries.
  • The study concluded that despite varying pressure between the cyst and ventricles, using a cystoventricular stent effectively relieved symptoms in most patients, making it a recommended first surgical option.

Background: Primary diffuse leptomeningeal primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PDL PNET) is extremely rare, with only 19 cases reported in the literature to date. We present a case of a child with rapidly progressive PDL PNET and a literature review. A 10-year-old boy presented with mood lability, hallucinations, generalized pain, enuresis, and headaches.

Article Synopsis
  • The prevalence of lumbar or sacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV) in the population ranges from 4% to 30%, and little research has focused on the conus medullaris (CM) position in those with LSTV.
  • A study analyzed spinal MRI data from 822 patients over 10 years, finding that the CM levels varied based on whether patients had lumbarized or sacralized vertebrae.
  • The findings revealed that individuals with lumbarized vertebrae had a lower CM level at L1-2, while those with sacralized vertebrae had a higher CM level at T12-L1, with no significant differences based on sex, age, or other pathologies except tethered cords
