(Acari: Tetranychidae) has caused serious economic losses on some crops (soybean, corn, and cotton) in China, and has developed resistance to most acaricides. Our laboratory study found that was resistant to pyridaben and also adapted to high temperature (34-40 °C). The hydroxylation process is the primary, and even the rate-determining step of the photocatalytic degradation of aromatic compounds. To make clear the hydroxylation pathway of aromatics, the TiO(2) photocatalytic hydroxylation of several model substrates, such as benzoic acid, benzene, nitrobenzene, and benzonitrile, has been studied by an oxygen-isotope-labeling method, which can definitively assign the origin of the O atoms (from oxidant O(2) or solvent H(2)O) in the hydroxyl groups of the hydroxylated products. It is found that the oxygen source of the hydroxylated products depends markedly on the reaction conditions.

The study of the micelle-to-vesicle transition (MVT) is of great importance from both theoretical and practical points of view. Herein, we studied the effect of compressed CO(2) on the aggregation behavior of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)/sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) mixed surfactants in aqueous solution by means of direct observation, turbidity and conductivity measurements, steady-state fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ), fluorescence quantum yield, and template methods. Interestingly, all these approaches showed that compressed CO(2) could induce the MVT in the surfactant system, and the vesicles returned to the micelles simply by depressurization; that is, CO(2) can be used to switch the MVT reversibly by controlling pressure.

A simple and effective route to design pH-responsive viscoelastic wormlike micelles based on commercial compounds is reported. According to this route, pH-sensitive viscoelastic fluids can be easily obtained by introducing a pH-responsive hydrotrope into a surfactant solution. In this paper, the mixed system of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and potassium phthalic acid (PPA) was studied in detail.

With the aid of pH variation, direct transformation of a "1-1" cationic-anionic surfactant pair to a "1-2" cationic-anionic surfactant pair was attained in the system of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and n-decylphosphoric acid. Owing to the transformation of a "1-1" pair to a "1-2" pair, diverse microstructures and peculiar phase behavior in this cationic-anionic surfactant mixture was obtained at different pH. It is proposed that pH can be manipulated for effectively tailoring the self-assembled organization in this cationic-anionic surfactant system, including spherical micelle, wormlike micelle, vesicle, and lamellar structure.

Light emission from a quantum well-dot structure comprising amorphous Si nanoparticles (∼1.4 nm) embedded in SiC/SiN(x) multilayers (a few tens nm thick for individual sublayers) was investigated. Strong blue-green photoluminescence was measured at room temperature on the as-deposited samples and the spectral profile shows some markedly modulated features.

Hypocrellin B (HB) is a natural pigment with a promising application in the photodynamic therapy (PDT) for anticancer treatment. The photobleaching of HB in non-polar organic solvents and in liposomes in aqueous solution were investigated by the measurements of absorption spectra, quenching experiments and determination of photoproducts. Control experiments indicated that the sensitizer, oxygen and light were all essential for the photobleaching of HB, which suggested that it was mainly self-sensitized photooxidation.
