We derived trajectories of abdominal volume index (AVI) over 16 years of follow up, and examined the associations between AVI trajectories and risk of diabetes mellitus.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are highly correlated with the progression and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In addition, mounting evidence has revealed that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation, a common RNA modification, is involved in the progression of malignancies. The contrasting trends of surface particulate matter (PM), ozone (O), and nitrogen dioxide (NO) and their relationships with meteorological parameters from 2015 to 2019 were investigated in the coastal city of Shanghai (SH) and the inland city of Hefei (HF), located in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD). In both cities, PM declined substantially, while O and NO showed peak values during 2017 when the most frequent extreme high-temperature events occurred. Wind speed was correlated most negatively with PM and NO concentrations, while surface temperature and relative humidity were most closely related to O.

Adjuvant radiotherapy in breast cancer patients might enhance complications after autologous breast reconstruction, including thrombosis of the internal mammary artery (IMA) precluding its use as recipient vessel. This case report shows a salvage procedure for thrombosis of the IMA during bilateral autologous breast reconstruction in a 51-year-old patient who had undergone repeated irradiation of the chest wall after Hodgkin's disease and recurrent breast carcinoma of the right side. After mastectomy of the right breast and prophylactic mastectomy of the left breast, the patient desired breast reconstruction with autologous tissue.

The engagement of unactivated alkyl halides in copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions has been historically challenging, due to their low reduction potential and the slow oxidative addition of copper(I) catalysts. In this work, we report a novel strategy that leverages the halogen abstraction ability of aryl radicals, thereby engaging a diverse range of alkyl iodides in copper-catalyzed Negishi-type cross-coupling reactions at room temperature. Specifically, aryl radicals generated via copper catalysis efficiently initiate the cleavage of the carbon-iodide bonds of alkyl iodides.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) main protease (Mpro) inhibitors are considered as potential treatments for coronavirus disease 2019, and dietary polyphenols show promise in SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibition based on in silico studies. In the present study, we utilize a combination of biochemical-, surface plasmon resonance-, and docking-based assays to evaluate the inhibition and binding affinities of a series of tannins and their gut microbial metabolites on SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. The tested compounds (2-50 μM) were hydrolyzable tannins, including ellagitannins (punicalagin and ellagic acid) and gallotannins (tannic acid, pentagalloyl glucose, ginnalin A, and gallic acid), and their gut microbial metabolites, urolithins and pyrogallol, respectively.

Most scanning schemes of multi-energy computed tomography (MECT) require multiple sets of full-scan measurements under different x-ray spectra, which limits the application of MECT with incomplete scan.
