Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), a key protein in waste clearance pathway of brain, is involved in synaptic plasticity and neurocognition. Being a Physician in Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic and Alternative Health Care Service: Telemedicine: Prospective Survey Study.

In this study, we aimed to detect anxiety levels of the physicians during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to assess the knowledge, perspective, and willingness of the physicians about telemedicine. This was a survey study of physicians from different specialties who provided patient care during the pandemic in Turkey. A total of 824 physicians responded to questionnaire, which consisted of 5 sections: (1) demographic characteristics; (2) anxiety level; (3) knowledge; (4) perspective; and (5) willingness to use telemedicine.

Gas and seismicity within the Istanbul seismic gap.

Understanding micro-seismicity is a critical question for earthquake hazard assessment. Since the devastating earthquakes of Izmit and Duzce in 1999, the seismicity along the submerged section of North Anatolian Fault within the Sea of Marmara (comprising the "Istanbul seismic gap") has been extensively studied in order to infer its mechanical behaviour (creeping vs locked). So far, the seismicity has been interpreted only in terms of being tectonic-driven, although the Main Marmara Fault (MMF) is known to strike across multiple hydrocarbon gas sources.

Geochronology and sources of heavy metal pollution in sediments of Istanbul Strait (Bosporus) outlet area, SW Black Sea, Turkey.

Geochemical and sedimentological analyses and radionuclide (Pb and Cs) dating of three cores from the Bosporus outlet area of the Black Sea, north of Istanbul, were conducted to assess the sources and history of heavy metal pollution. The sedimentary succession in the shelf core KD12-01 consists mainly of clay (49-80%) and silt (15-41%). Radionuclide dating of the core indicates that it consists of old sediments that are uncontaminated with heavy metals.

Carbapenems are the choice of treatment in infections caused by multidrug resistant Enterobacteriaceae. In recent years carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae isolates due to carbapenemases have been increasingly reported worldwide. Multicenter studies on carbapenemases are scarce in Turkey.

Geochronology of lake sediments using (210)Pb with double energetic window method by LSC: an application to Lake Van.

In this study the age and sediment accumulation rates of the lake sediment were calculated by using the (210)Pb concentrations through the sediment core. The specific activity of (210)Pb for each sediment section was determined by LSC with double energetic window method which relies on the direct determination of (210)Pb without waiting for the in growth of (210)Po from (210)Pb. For the successful determination of this radionuclide two counting windows were optimized to eliminate the overlapping of the beta spectra of (210)Pb and (210)Bi.

[Comparison of oxacillin, cefoxitin, ceftizoxime, and moxalactam disk diffusion methods for detection of methicillin susceptibility in staphylococci].

Penicillin binding protein 2a/2' (PBP2a/PBP2') which is encoded by the mecA gene, is responsible for the methicillin resistance in staphylococci. Detection of methicillin resistance with phenotypic methods is still a problem especially because of heterogenous expression of mecA gene. Although mecA gene determination by polymerase chain reaction is considered as the gold standard method, molecular tests are not easily applied in all routine laboratories.

Assessment of anti-sperm antibodies in couples after testicular sperm extraction.

Purpose: Testicular spermatozoa can be retrieved successfully by the testicular sperm extraction (TESE) procedure and used for intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Disruption in the blood-testis barrier can lead to the production of antisperm antibodies (ASA). The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the frequency of ASA formation in couples after TESE procedure.

The effects of ciprofloxacin and ursodeoxycholic acid on bacterial translocation in obstructive jaundice.

Background/aims: We aimed to search the effects of two different drugs in bacterial translocation, both in combination and alone: ursodeoxycholic acid, the effectiveness of which was evidenced previously, and ciprofloxacin, which had not been used before, in an experimental obstructive jaundiced rat model.

Methods: Fifty Wistar Albino rats were divided into five groups: sham group (A), control group (B), ciprofloxacin group (C), ursodeoxycholic acid group (D), and ciprofloxacin + ursodeoxycholic acid group (E). Except in Group A animals, the common bile ducts in all animals were ligated.

Acarbose reduces the risk for myocardial infarction in type 2 diabetic patients: meta-analysis of seven long-term studies.

Aims: To assess if treatment with the alpha-glucosidase inhibitor acarbose can reduce cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetic patients.

Methods And Results: This meta-analysis included seven randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled acarbose studies with a minimum treatment duration of 52 weeks. Type 2 diabetic patients valid for safety were randomized to either acarbose (n=1248) or placebo (n=932).

Factors controlling metal distributions in the surface sediments of the Erdek Bay, Sea of Marmara, Turkey.

A geochemical study of the Erdek Bay sediments in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey, was carried out to investigate the heavy metal distributions and sources. The bay has an average depth of 34 m and a two-layer water column stratification, with a pycnocline at 20 m. The distribution of "total" metal (Fe, Mn, Pb, Cu, Ni, Cr, Zn and Hg) concentrations, together with sequential selective extraction analyses, shows that the relatively high metal concentrations are mainly due to land-based natural inputs from the erosion products of mineralized zones and mafic-ultramafic rocks delivered to the bay by two rivers from the south.

Distributions of heavy metals in the surface sediments of the Gulf of Saros, NE Aegean Sea.
