Chemical and carcinogenic risk in workplace are linked to an increase of the incidence of cancer in exposed workers. The aim of this observational study was to identify an association between exposure to chemical risk and changes in hematochemical parameters of workers exposed. The study examined blood count parameters performed on 4523 employees of Sapienza University of Rome from September 2019 to February 2020.

Ionizing Radiations (IR) are an important occupational risk factor for the potential damage that can cause to workers' health and for their presence in numerous professional settings. Health care workers (HCW) can be exposed to IR from various sources, in particular from x-rays using radiological equipment, and represent the largest group of workers occupationally at risk, despite increased regulation and protection which caused exposure to low dose radiations.

Material And Methods: A prospective randomized clinical trial was carried out on 256 patients (test group = 128; control group = 128). The exact two-tailed Fisher test and the two-tailed non-parametric Mann-Whitney test were used for statistical analysis.
Background: Trial of Rivaroxaban in AntiPhospholipid Syndrome was a prospective randomized, open-label, noninferiority study conducted in 14 centers in Italy. Rivaroxaban was compared with warfarin for the prevention of thromboembolic events, major bleeding, and vascular death in high-risk, triple-positive patients with antiphospholipid syndrome.
Objective: The aim of this paper is to report the events during the 2-year follow-up after the study closure.
Objective: To identify which variable, among those related to surgeries, to patients, or to antithrombotic treatments, could be considered as a bleeding indicator, and to analyze effectiveness of the local hemostatic protocols used, incidence of bleeding and healing index, depending on the number of extracted teeth, and patient antithrombotic treatment.
Methods: Patients who underwent tooth extractions without interruption or reduction of antithrombotic treatment were prospectively followed. The exact two-tailed Fisher test was used to investigate the relationship between presence/absence of bleeding and type of hemostatic material.
Objectives: Recent studies have suggested that vitamin K may exert significant effects on the central nervous system. The present study investigates the relationship between vitamin K plasmatic levels and cognitive functions in elderly patients on oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT).
Design: At the Thrombosis Centre of Haematology, "Sapienza" University of Rome, 85 patients on OAT, aged between 75 and 92, were randomly enrolled in the study.
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble nutrient discovered in 1935 and its role in blood coagulation has been thoroughly explored. In recent years, studies conducted and on animals highlighted vitamin K involvement in brain cells development and survival. In particular, vitamin K seems to have an antiapoptotic and anti-inflammatory effect mediated by the activation of Growth Arrest Specific Gene 6 and Protein S.

In all five patients haematological and biochemical parameters and adverse events were evaluated for a period of twelve months. Therapy with rivaroxaban was well tolerated in all cases and one patient showed a significant reduction of bleeding and transfusion requirement.

Conjugation of PpIX, Pba, and PpIX-DME to the poly( N-isopropylacrylamide) chain was achieved using the dispersion polymerization method. This study describes how the use of nanohydrogel structures to deliver a photosensitizer with low water solubility and high aggregation tendencies in polar solvents overcomes these limitations.

It is demonstrated that DBBA molecules on Ag(111) are partially debrominated at room temperature and lose all bromine atoms at elevated temperatures. Similar to DBBA on Cu(111), debrominated molecules form OM chains on Ag(111).

The hydrogel was fully characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis, fluorescence, FE-SEM, AFM, rheology and picosecond time-resolved spectroscopic techniques. The self-healing ability was demonstrated by rheological recovery and macroscopic and microscopic observations.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of a multijet cold-plasma system and its efficacy in decontaminating 2 surfaces commonly found in hospitals DESIGN An in vitro study of common causes of healthcare-acquired infection METHODS Log10 9 cultures of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli, and Acinetobacter baumannii were applied to 5-cm2 sections of stainless steel and mattress. Human serum albumin (HSA) was used as a proxy marker for organic material, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to study the impact on bacterial cell structure. The inoculated surfaces were exposed to a cold-air-plasma-generating multijet prototype for 15, 20, 30, and 45 seconds.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an extra-alveolar hemostatic agent, the HemCon Dental Dressing (HDD), in controlling postsurgical bleeding.
Materials And Methods: Routine, atraumatic tooth extractions were performed in a single session under local anesthesia without a vasoconstrictor and without interruption of antiplatelet therapy.

Herein we report the synthesis of tripodal C-symmetric opioid scaffolds as high-affinity condensation agents of duplex DNA. Condensation was achieved on both supercoiled and canonical B-DNA structures and identified by agarose electrophoresis, viscosity, turbidity and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements. Structurally, the requirement of a tris-opioid scaffold for condensation is demonstrated as both di- (C-symmetric) and mono-substituted (C-symmetric) mesitylene-linked opioid derivatives poorly coordinate dsDNA.

The percentage of time in the therapeutic range (TTR%) expresses the OAT quality. We planned a case-control study in order to determine vitamin K1 plasmatic concentrations in MHP patients and to correlate these with TTR%.

Using the facile method of aqueous-phase functionalisation on large-scale CVD-grown graphene, we investigated the formation of different packing densities in self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of perylene bisimide derivatives and related this to the amount of substrate contamination. We were able to directly observe wet-chemically deposited SAMs in scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) on transferred CVD graphene and revealed that the densely packed perylene ad-layers adsorb with the conjugated π-system of the core perpendicular to the graphene substrate.

Recently, using 10,10'-dibromo-9,9'-bianthracene (DBBA) as a molecular precursor to grow armchair nanoribbons on Au(111) and Cu(111), we have shown that substrate activity considerably affects the dynamics of ribbon formation, nonetheless without significant modifications in the growth mechanism. In this paper we compare the on-surface reaction pathways for DBBA molecules on Cu(111) and Cu(110).

The covalent coupling of (5,10,15,20-tetrabromothien-2-ylporphyrinato)zinc(II) (TBrThP) molecules on the Ag(111) surface has been investigated under ultra-high-vacuum conditions, using scanning tunnelling microscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The findings provide atomic-level insight into surface-confined Ullmann coupling of thiophene substituted porphyrins, analyzing the progression of organometallic intermediate to final coupled state. Adsorption of the TBrThP molecules on the Ag(111) surface at room temperature is found to result in the reductive dehalogenation of the bromothienyl substituents and the subsequent formation of single strand and crosslinked coordination networks.
