The Theatre Recovery and Anaesthetic Nurse Capnography Education (TRACE) project is a multidisciplinary quality improvement project. The overall aim is to educate anaesthetic and recovery nurses on the correct use of capnography and educate non-consultant hospital doctors on the guidelines on from the Project for Universal Management of Airways group. This project addresses technical aspects of task performance such as correct waveform identification and interpretation, troubleshooting abnormal waveforms and establishing routine checks of capnography both pre-induction and post-intubation.

An urgent caesarean section was planned. Both previous pregnancies had been delivered by elective lower segment caesarean section (LSCS) under subarachnoid block (SAB) at term.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe describe a case of refractory pulseless polymorphic ventricular tachycardia successfully treated with a bolus of propranolol intravenously, followed by an esmolol infusion and extracorporeal life support for 4 days in a 12-year-old boy later diagnosed with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. He had an excellent neurological outcome. Genetic testing for mutations associated with cardiac arrhythmias yielded a mutation of the syntrophin α-1 gene.

The College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (CAI) was the first Irish postgraduate medical training body to introduce mandatory simulation training into its curriculum.
