Unlabelled: The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using serum creatinine is widely utilized for assessing renal function. Its decrease with age and in the presence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity is well-known. However, there are no representative data for the Chilean population.

[Multidisciplinary consensus on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in chilean clinical practice using the GRADE methodology].

The Chilean consensus on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors (iSGLT-2) in clinical practice, jointly developed by the societies of Cardiology, Diabetes, Family Medicine, and Nephrology, strongly recommends the use of these drugs in people with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, type 2 diabetes mellitus for prevention of cardiovascular events, and chronic kidney disease. In heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction, and chronic kidney disease without diabetes, the consensus suggests the use of iSGLT-2. The importance of combining iSGLT-2 with ACE inhibitors or ARBs in chronic kidney disease is highlighted, and their use is recommended to replace sulfonylureas as a second-line treatment for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.

The added value of serologic testing: A comparison of influenza incidence among pregnant persons based on molecular-based surveillance versus serologic testing.

Background: We examined the added value of serologic testing for estimating influenza virus infection incidence based on illness surveillance with molecular testing versus periodic serologic testing.

Methods: Pregnant persons unvaccinated against influenza at <28 weeks gestation were enrolled before the 2017 and 2018 influenza seasons in Peru and Thailand. Blood specimens were collected at enrollment and ≤14 days postpartum for testing by hemagglutination inhibition assay for antibodies against influenza reference viruses.

The Role of Starch Incorporation into Waterborne Acrylic-Hybrid Nanoparticles for Film-Forming Applications.

The use of biopolymers as an alternative to petroleum-based polymers offers a sustainable solution with benefits such as biodegradability and unique functionalities. In this study, starch/zein bioparticles (BPs) obtained by nanoprecipitation were employed to synthesize acrylic polymer/biopolymer waterborne nanoparticles with excellent film formation capability. These hybrid nanoparticle dispersions were obtained through a semibatch emulsion polymerization using the previously synthesized BPs as seed and variable monomeric formulations composed of butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate.

Role of cfDNA and ctDNA to improve the risk stratification and the disease follow-up in patients with endometrial cancer: towards the clinical application.

Background: There has been a rise in endometrial cancer (EC) incidence leading to increased mortality. To counter this trend, improving the stratification of post-surgery recurrence risk and anticipating disease relapse and treatment resistance is essential. Liquid biopsy analyses offer a promising tool for these clinical challenges, though the best strategy for applying them in EC must be defined.

Purpose: Cervical cancer is a viral-associated tumor caused by the infection with the human papilloma virus. Cervical cancer is an immunogenic cancer that expresses viral antigens. Despite being immunogenic, cervical cancer does not fully respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI).

Molecular classification improves preoperative risk assessment of endometrial cancer.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the performance of endometrial cancer (EC) molecular classification in predicting extrauterine disease after primary surgery alone and in combination with other clinical data available in preoperative setting.

Methods: Retrospective single-center observational study including patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma treated with primary surgery between December 1994 and May 2022. Molecular profiling was performed using immunohistochemistry of p53, MLH1, PMS2, MSH2 and MSH6; and KASP genotyping of the 6 most common mutations of POLE gene.

Rapid eye movement sleep is a state characterized by concomitant occurrence of rapid eye movements, electroencephalographic activation and muscle atonia. In this review, we provide up to date knowledge on the neuronal network controlling its onset and maintenance. It is now accepted that muscle atonia during rapid eye movement sleep is due to activation of glutamatergic neurons localized in the pontine sublaterodorsal tegmental nucleus.

Increased ER Stress and Unfolded Protein Response Activation in Epithelial and Inflammatory Cells in Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis.

Several types of cytotoxic insults disrupt endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis, cause ER stress, and activate the unfolded protein response (UPR). The role of ER stress and UPR activation in hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) has not been described. HP is an immune-mediated interstitial lung disease that develops following repeated inhalation of various antigens in susceptible and sensitized individuals.

Iridium complexes have been demonstrated to be highly active catalysts for a wide variety of transformations. Their unique photophysical and photochemical properties render them as one of the most established photocatalysts. Moreover, iridium complexes are widely acknowledged for their efficiency in transfer hydrogenation reactions.

Molecular profile in endometrial carcinoma: can we predict the lymph node status? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: Molecular classification of endometrial cancer (EC) has become a promising information to tailor preoperatively the surgical treatment. We aimed to evaluate the rate of lymph node metastases (LNM) in patients with EC according to molecular profile.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed according to PRISMA guidelines by searching in two major electronic databases (PubMed and Scopus), including original articles reporting lymph node metastases according to the molecular classification of EC as categorized in the ESGO-ESMO-ESP guidelines.

Which structure generates paradoxical (REM) sleep: The brainstem, the hypothalamus, the amygdala or the cortex?

Paradoxical or Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (PS) is a state characterized by REMs, EEG activation and muscle atonia. In this review, we discuss the contribution of brainstem, hypothalamic, amygdalar and cortical structures in PS genesis. We propose that muscle atonia during PS is due to activation of glutamatergic neurons localized in the pontine sublaterodorsal tegmental nucleus (SLD) projecting to glycinergic/GABAergic pre-motoneurons localized in the ventro-medial medulla (vmM).

Molecular profile is a strong predictor of the pattern of recurrence in patients with endometrial cancer.

Objectives: To investigate the pattern of first recurrence of disease in patients with endometrial cancer according to molecular classification, and to assess the independent role of molecular profiling in each type of failure.

Methods: Retrospective single-center study including patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer stage I-IVB (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics 2009) between December 1994 and May 2022, who underwent primary surgical treatment and had a complete molecular profile. First recurrence was classified as isolated or multiple, and as vaginal, pelvic, peritoneal, nodal, and distant according to its location.

The causal pathogen, ' × ' phyllody phytoplasma (StrPh), is categorized within the 16S ribosomal group XIII that is exclusively found in the Americas. In the context of economically significant crops, hemipteran insect vectors and alternative host plants play a pivotal role in their natural dissemination.

How to handle off-label prescriptions of rupatadine, a second-generation antihistamine and PAF antagonist: a review.

The off-label use of second-generation antihistamines, used outside of the formal indications authorized by regulatory authorities, in different age groups, doses or in special populations, is very common for many allergic, autoimmune and dermatological diseases. The off-label use of rupatadine (a second-generation antihistamine with PAF antagonist activity) in these conditions is reviewed here, including in combination with immunotherapy in the treatment of food allergy or allergic rhinitis, at high doses in chronic urticaria, and with prescriptions of less common but challenging conditions such as skin pruritus or mast cell activation disorders like mastocytosis. Rupatadine use is reviewed herein to confirm if its off-label management is supported by well-designed clinical trials or by published real-world cases.

Clinical outcomes of single application multi-fractionated CT-guided interstitial high-dose-rate brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer: A multi-institution initial experience.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and clinical outcomes of single application multi-fractionated computed tomography (CT)-guided interstitial high-dose-rate brachytherapy given in four fractions in locally advanced cervical cancer.

Material And Methods: Patients with locally advanced cervical cancer stage IIB-IVA treated definitively with external radiation ± weekly cisplatin, followed by single application multi-fractionated CT-guided interstitial high-dose-rate brachytherapy in four fractions were included. Dosimetry data, clinical response, and toxicity records were reviewed.

Individualised, perioperative open-lung ventilation strategy during one-lung ventilation (iPROVE-OLV): a multicentre, randomised, controlled clinical trial.

Background: It is uncertain whether individualisation of the perioperative open-lung approach (OLA) to ventilation reduces postoperative pulmonary complications in patients undergoing lung resection. We compared a perioperative individualised OLA (iOLA) ventilation strategy with standard lung-protective ventilation in patients undergoing thoracic surgery with one-lung ventilation.

Methods: This multicentre, randomised controlled trial enrolled patients scheduled for open or video-assisted thoracic surgery using one-lung ventilation in 25 participating hospitals in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, and Ecuador.

Inhibition of polyamine biosynthesis preserves β cell function in type 1 diabetes.

In preclinical models, α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO), an ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitor, delays the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) by reducing β cell stress. However, the mechanism of DFMO action and its human tolerability remain unclear. In this study, we show that mice with β cell ODC deletion are protected against toxin-induced diabetes, suggesting a cell-autonomous role of ODC during β cell stress.

Endometrial adenocarcinoma recurring in the lung: impact of molecular profile and role of local therapies on prognosis.

Objectives: The objective of our study was to describe the characteristics of patients with endometrial cancer diagnosed with a first recurrence involving the lung, and to describe the prognostic role of the molecular profile. We also aimed to describe the prognostic outcomes after local treatment of recurrence (resection of lung metastases or stereotactic body radiation therapy) in a group of patients with isolated lung recurrence.

Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center study between June 1995 and July 2021.

Endometrial cancer: predictors and oncological safety of tumor tissue manipulation.

Purpose: The main goal of this study is to assess the impact of tumor manipulation on the presence of lympho-vascular space invasion and its influence on oncological results.

Methods: We performed a retrospective multi-centric study amongst patients who had received primary surgical treatment for apparently early-stage endometrial cancer. A multivariate statistical analysis model was designed to assess the impact that tumor manipulation (with the use of uterine manipulator or preoperative hysteroscopy) has on lympho-vascular development (LVSI) in the final surgical specimen.

Accuracy and Survival Outcomes after National Implementation of Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Early Stage Endometrial Cancer.

Background: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy has recently been accepted to evaluate nodal status in endometrial cancer at early stage, which is key to tailoring adjuvant treatments. Our aim was to evaluate the national implementation of SLN biopsy in terms of accuracy to detect nodal disease in a clinical setting and oncologic outcomes according to the volume of nodal disease.

Patients And Methods: A total of 29 Spanish centers participated in this retrospective, multicenter registry including patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma at preoperative early stage who had undergone SLN biopsy between 2015 and 2021.
