Compared with uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), complicated UTIs (cUTIs) including acute pyelonephritis (AP) present with significant morbidity, a higher risk of treatment failure and typically require longer courses of treatment, or alternative antibiotics. The emergence of drug-resistant organisms represents a considerable challenge in the treatment of patients with cUTIs/AP and has limited antibiotic options. Carbapenems are considered the current last line of therapy, however, carbapenem resistance represents a growing problem.

While dietary sugars are known to be responsible for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome (MetS), the underlying pathophysiological effects of sustained fructose consumption require further elucidation. We hypothesize that certain bioactive compounds ( punicalagin and ellagic acid) from dietary pomegranate could counteract the harmful effects of sustained fructose consumption in terms of obesity and liver damage.

Whereas most infected neonates present with mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and abnormal lung images are significantly more frequent in COVID-19 positive neonates than in non-infected newborns. Fatality is rare and discordant meta-analyses of case reports and series relating perinatal maternal COVID-19 status to neonatal disease severity complicate their extrapolation as prognostic indicators.

It is essential in a pandemic to have accessible instruments to estimate the prognosis of the disease. The lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio (LCR) is a predictive biomarker studied in oncology, which could have some advantages in COVID-19 patients in the early stages of the disease.

While studies in mammals and insects have revealed additional transcriptional inputs modulating the expression of core clock components, this has been less characterized in the model Neurospora crassa, where the participation of other transcriptional components impacting circadian clock dynamics remains rather unexplored. Thus, we sought to identify additional transcriptional regulators modulating the N.

Energy users are no longer passive actors; the prosumer is expected to be the primary agent in the Future Grid. Demand Side Management refers to the management of energy production and consumption at the demand side, and there seems to be an increasing concern about the scalability of Demand Side Management services.

Environmental factors, specifically, obesity and diet quality, have been linked with an increased risk of BC in women. This research was aimed at assessing the association of diet quality with BC risk, considering nutritional status, in Córdoba province (Argentina).

Those physical devices are heterogeneous in their nature both in terms of communication protocols and in data exchange formats. The Web of Things emerged as a homogenization layer that uses well-established web technologies and semantic web technologies to exchange data.

Objective: Characterization of the clinical features of symptomatic uterine myomas in Spanish women visiting the gynaecologist, including impact on quality of life and possible risk factors, description of main therapeutic approaches, and evaluation of symptom and quality of life progression 6 months after inclusion in the study.
Study Design: This was an observational, epidemiological, non-interventional, multicentre study performed between June 2015 and March 2016. Data were collected at baseline and follow-up visits 6 months apart from women with a diagnosis of uterine myomas and visiting a participating gynaecologist in outpatient units of private clinics or public hospitals in Spain.
Objective: To determine the number of drugs taken per day, which represents a risk factor for falls among noninstitutionalized older adults with a history of falls in the last year.
Method: This was a descriptive study that used random sampling and the following measurement instruments: the WHO questionnaire for the study of falls in older adults, gait scale and geriatric depression scale and gait and balance. Univariate and bivariate analysis, nonparametric chi-squared test, and binary logistic regression were performed using the SPSS statistical program version 21.
Sensor networks and the Internet of Things have driven the evolution of traditional electric power distribution networks towards a new paradigm referred to as Smart Grid. However, the different elements that compose the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) layer of a Smart Grid are usually conceived as isolated systems that typically result in rigid hardware architectures which are hard to interoperate, manage, and to adapt to new situations. If the Smart Grid paradigm has to be presented as a solution to the demand for distributed and intelligent energy management system, it is necessary to deploy innovative IT infrastructures to support these smart functions.

More specifically, the observational sampling includes all plays in which the Spanish national futsal team managed to "shoot" in the competition in question. Here we analyze the transcription of its gene in Shigella flexneri, where it is found downstream of dksA, which encodes a transcriptional regulator involved in stress responses.
Results: The genomic organization, dksA-gluQ-rs, is conserved in more than 40 bacterial species.
Objectives: We propose to assess the contribution of "modified genetic sonography" (MGS) to the combined test (CT) as a method of stepwise sequential screening (1st step: CT, 2nd step: MGS) for chromosome abnormalities in the general population of pregnant women.
Methods: Prospective study. During a 4 year study period (July 2005-June 2009) 16,548 pregnancies underwent a CT combined with MGS (major malformation and nuchal fold) as a screening method for chromosome abnormalities.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of a diet depleted of amino acids (protein-free diet, or PFD), as well as the supplementation with methionine (PFD+Met), on the antioxidant status of the female mouse liver. With this purpose, cytosolic protein spots from two-dimensional non-equilibrium pH gel electrophoresis were identified by several procedures, such as mass spectrometry, Western blot, gel matching and enzymatic activity. PFD decreased the contents of catalase (CAT), peroxiredoxin I (Prx-I), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) by 67%, 37% and 45%, respectively.
