Background: We compared the performance of the Liver Transplant Risk Score (LTRS) with the survival outcomes following liver transplantation (SOFT), pretransplant SOFT (P-SOFT), Balance of Risk Score (BAR), donor-age and model for end-stage liver disease (D-MELD), and Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Risk Prediction Score (ORPS) for the prediction of 90-d mortality, 1-y mortality, and 5-y survival after first-time liver transplantation (LT).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients was conducted using data collected between 2002 and 2021.

Gamma delta (γδ) T cells are defined by their unique ability to recognize a limited repertoire of non-peptide, non-MHC-associated antigens on transformed and pathogen-infected cells. In addition to their lack of alloreactivity, γδ T cells exhibit properties distinct from other lymphocyte subsets, prompting significant interest in their development as an off-the-shelf cellular immunotherapeutic. However, their low abundance in circulation, heterogeneity, limited methods for expansion, and under-developed methodologies for genetic modification have hindered basic study and clinical application of γδ T cells.

HELLP (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) Syndrome is a rare but serious complication of pregnancy that can lead to disseminated intravascular coagulation, pulmonary edema, respiratory failure, hepatic and renal injury, and death if not recognized and treated promptly. A 36-year-old nulligravid (G0) active duty Marine at 36 weeks and 1 day gestation with dichorionic diamniotic twins presented to triage for routine cervical examination found to have elevated blood pressures and symptomatic thrombocytopenia, with a suspected diagnosis of HELLP. A multidisciplinary decision was made by anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics to deliver the twins to avoid any further complications.

RNA editing is a post-transcriptional source of protein diversity and occurs across the animal kingdom. Given the complete profile of mRNA targets and their editing rate in individual cells is unclear, we analyzed single cell RNA transcriptomes from larval tonic and phasic glutamatergic motoneuron subtypes to determine the most highly edited targets and identify cell-type specific editing. From ∼15,000 genes encoded in the genome, 316 high confidence A-to-I canonical RNA edit sites were identified, with 102 causing missense amino acid changes in proteins regulating membrane excitability, synaptic transmission, and cellular function.

Papillomaviruses (family Papillomaviridae) are non-enveloped, circular, double-stranded DNA viruses known to infect squamous and mucosal epithelial cells. In the family Papillomaviridae there are 53 genera and 133 viral species whose members infect a variety of mammalian, avian, reptilian, and fish species. Within the Antarctic context, papillomaviruses (PVs) have been identified in Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae, 2 PVs), Weddell seals (Leptonychotes weddellii, 7 PVs), and emerald notothen (Trematomus bernacchii, 1 PV) in McMurdo Sound and Ross Island in eastern Antarctica.

Although several recent studies have characterized structural variants (SVs) in germline and cancer genomes, the features of SVs in these different contexts have not been directly compared. We examined similarities and differences between 2 million germline and 115 thousand tumor SVs from a cohort of 963 patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).
