Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) induces profound physiological changes that may alter the pharmacokinetics of methadone. We aimed to describe the pharmacokinetics of an intravenous bolus of methadone racemate in adult patients undergoing heart surgery with CPB.
Methods: We prospectively studied 29 patients aged 45 to 75 years scheduled for cardiac surgery with CPB who received methadone 0.
The shear stress on isotropic curved beams with compact sections and variable thickness is investigated. Two new solutions, based on Cook's proposal and the mechanics of materials approach, were developed and validated using computational finite element models (FEM) for four typical cross-sections (rectangular, circular, elliptical, and triangular) used in civil and mechanical structures, constituting a novel approach to predicting shear stresses in curved beams. They predict better results than other reported equations, are simpler and easier for engineers to use quickly, and join the group of equations found using the theory of elasticity, thereby expanding the field of knowledge.

This study constitutes a systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of beta-blockers on mortality, MI, stroke, and other adverse effects such as hypotension and bradycardia in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
Methods: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
Development of new vaccines tailored for difficult-to-target diseases is hampered by a lack of diverse adjuvants for human use, and none of the currently available adjuvants induce Th17 cells. Here, we develop a liposomal adjuvant, CAF®10b, that incorporates Mincle and Toll-like receptor 9 agonists. In parallel mouse and non-human primate studies comparing to CAF® adjuvants already in clinical trials, we report species-specific effects of adjuvant composition on the quality and magnitude of the responses.

This study aimed to determine the influence of heat stress during the dry period on milk yield and reproductive performance of Holstein cows in a hot environment. Breeding and milk production records of cows, as well as meteorological data between 2017 and 2020 from a commercial dairy herd (n = 12,102 lactations), were used to determine the relationship between climatic conditions during the dry period (average of the temperature-humidity index (THI) at the beginning, middle, and end of the dry period) and reproductive efficiency and milk yield traits. Here, we demonstrate that the manipulation capabilities of a standing-wave acoustic levitator can be extended by introducing intracavity high-order transverse (HOT) modes in the azimuthal direction, enabling the simultaneous trapping of several objects within a wide range of shapes and sizes with positional and rotational stability, including objects with sizes larger than one wavelength and weights in the scale of millinewtons. The conditions to generate different HOT modes are theoretically analyzed and experimentally implemented.

Methods: Spike-specific B-cell clones isolated from a vaccinated post-infected donor were profiled for those producing potent neutralizing antibodies against a panel of SARS-CoV-2 variants.
