Introduction And Objective: Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use in children increases the risk of infections, prompting inquiry into the impact of prenatal PPIs exposure on serious infections in offspring. As a research gap in this area exists, this study aimed to address it by assessing the association between prenatal PPIs exposure and serious infections in infants during their first year of life.

Unlabelled: Intertwined within a patchwork of different types of land use and land cover, novel ecosystems are urban ecosystems that have no historical analogues and contain novel species assemblages. Some researchers and practitioners in the field of conservation and restoration regard urban novel ecosystems unworthy of concern, while other groups call for their preservation due to the rate of biodiversity loss in cities and limited access to nature among some social groups. However, very little is known about how people perceive novel ecosystems (such as informal green spaces, post-industrial or derelict land sites awaiting redevelopment, brownfield sites, vacant lots, interstitial or gap spaces) which are often characterised by assemblages of wild, spontaneous, and overgrown vegetation, but also remanent or derelict urban infrastructure in cities.

Background: One possible reason for the lack of FDA-approved pharmacotherapies to treat cocaine use disorder (CUD) is that, although cocaine is typically used in combination with alcohol, it is studied in isolation in preclinical studies. A better understanding of the cocaine-alcohol interactions that promote polysubstance use (PSU) will improve animal models of CUD and hasten pharmacotherapy development. We used a rhesus monkey model of cocaine-alcohol PSU to investigate one possible mechanism: that alcohol is used to mitigate negative effects associated with termination of cocaine use.

Soil spatial variability is a major concern when deciding how to collect a representative topsoil sample for laboratory analysis. Sampling design to capture site-specific variability is documented in the agricultural literature, but poorly understood for urban forest soils where soils may be characterized by strong horizontal and vertical variability and large temporal anthropogenic disturbances. This paper evaluates the spatial variability of selected topsoil properties under urban trees to define a statistically robust sampling design that optimizes the number of samples to reliably characterize basal soil respiration (BSR), a property associated with soil health.

How the essential eukaryotic chaperonin TRiC/CCT assembles from eight distinct subunits into a unique double-ring architecture remains undefined. We show TRiC assembly involves a hierarchical pathway that segregates subunits with distinct functional properties until holocomplex (HC) completion. A stable, likely early intermediate arises from small oligomers containing CCT2, CCT4, CCT5, and CCT7, contiguous subunits that constitute the negatively charged hemisphere of the TRiC chamber, which has weak affinity for unfolded actin.
