Neurogenic tumors of the duodenum may occur in patients with neurofibromatosis. They may be solitary or multiple and are located distal to the duodenal bulb. The presenting complaints may be hematemesis, vomiting, or jaundice.

Prior studies confirm the increased incidence of carcinoma of the colon in chronic ulcerative colitis. The authors reviewed clinical and histologic data retrospectively in 23 patients with colon carcinoma and chronic ulcerative colitis. Twenty-two of these patients had dysplasia of colonic epithelium remote from the cancer.

Prolonged reflux esophagitis leads to replacement of the esophageal squamous epithelium by columnar epithelium in some patients. This columnar epithelium resembles gastric or intestinal mucosa and has been implicated as a precursor of esophageal adenocarcinoma. A review of 14 cases of primary esophageal adenocarcinoma disclosed that 12 (86%) arose in a columnar epithelium-lined (Barrett's) esophagus.
