Introduction: Lung cancer is the leading cause of death by cancer worldwide and has a high lethality. The best treatment for patients with localized disease is anatomical surgical resection, granting good average survival in the long term. We did not find Chilean studies focusing on complications, long term survival or potential association with pathological or clinical factors.

Background: Magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL) has increased our knowledge of lymphatic anatomy and lymphedema pathophysiology and improved the efficacy of microsurgical procedures to manage peripheral lymphedema. The aim of this study is to investigate the ability of MRL to detect communications between superficial and deep lymphatic systems in breast cancer-related lymphedema (BRCL) and to investigate whether these communications could preserve lymphatic drainage of the hand.

Methods: Between 2008 and 2017 we used MRL imaging in 59 women with BCRL.

Background: Lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) is a surgical treatment for lymphedema that requires identification and mapping of functional lymphatic channels. This technique was performed blindly for years because of the lack of suitable methods of study. Progress in imaging techniques and the introduction of Indocyanine green lymphography (ICG-L) represented a significant advancement in lymphedema management.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) surgery has become the standard technique in Thoracic Surgery since its introduction 20 years ago. Single port VATS appeared as the next step in its evolution, with rapid development since the first uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery lobectomy (VATS lobectomy) by Dr. Diego Gonzalez-Rivas.

Unlabelled: One of the main steps in perforator flap surgery is to identify the dominant perforator. Using multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) for the preoperative planning of deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEAP) flap surgery, we identified a perforator with a large caliber, an excellent location in the middle abdominal region, and a totally extramuscular trajectory in a significant number of patients. We describe the frequency of this perforator and determine its characteristics.

Identifying the position, course, and caliber of the dominant perforator is extremely valuable in the preoperative study for perforator surgery. Besides reliability, the ideal technique should offer low cost and high availability and reproducibility. It should be fast, easy to interpret, and free of morbidity.

The purpose of this article is to give an overview and discuss the relevant regulations in place, or under consideration, regarding healthcare-related personal genetics services in Europe - this is a rapidly evolving field and in most European Union (EU) countries the regulatory framework is not yet clear. The review will be framed from the perspective of potential service providers (companies, health services and practitioners, including medical, nutritional, complementary, etc), the growing number of which will need to be aware of potential regulatory hurdles existing now and that may arise in the future. The main conclusion from the survey is that strict regulations regarding practitioner-delivered personal genetic-testing services are unlikely to be enforced over the next 5 years in most EU countries, with the exception of Germany.

Anterior ankle arthroscopy can basically be performed by two different methods; the dorsiflexion- or distraction method. The objective of this study was to determine the size of the anterior working area for both the dorsiflexion and distraction method. The anterior working area is anteriorly limited by the overlying anatomy which includes the neurovascular bundle.

A reliable method for precise identification of the dominant perforator would be extremely valuable in perforator flap surgery. During the past 5 years, multidetector-row computed tomography has demonstrated excellent results in preoperative planning of abdominal free flap breast reconstruction, significantly reducing operative time and complications. The main drawbacks of computed tomography are unnecessary radiation to the patient and possible allergic reactions to intravenous contrast material.

Precision in preoperative evaluation of the abdominal wall vascular anatomy is of utmost importance in successful planning and execution of perforator flap surgery for breast reconstruction after mastectomy. We performed a study in 357 patients scheduled for deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEAP) flap breast reconstruction to review our 5-year experience with the technique we developed based on our previous research confirming accuracy of a computed tomographic (CT) angiogram (multidetector row computed tomography [MDCT]) in preoperative planning of abdominal perforator flap surgery. Images obtained from the radiological study were used to create an accurate map of dominant abdominal perforators of the deep inferior epigastric artery, showing their location, size, and anatomic considerations of relevance for the preoperative flap design.

Objectives: Little is known about the effect of Cervitec, a chlorhexidine-thymol varnish, on root caries. Our objective was to determine whether a 3-monthly application of Cervitec over 1 year would limit the progress of existing root caries lesions and reduce the incidence of dental root caries in a group of dentate institutionalized elderly, as a complement to their usual oral hygiene practices.

Methods: A double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted in 68 subjects (34 per group) in two residences in Almería (Spain).

Purpose: To study computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings and compare anatomic correlation of the 4th dorsal metacarpal spaces and to determine the role of this technique for anatomic studies and flap design.

Methods: Hands from 17 cadavers were injected with a radiopaque mixture. The specimens were imaged using 16-detector-row computed tomography.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the utility of MDCT in planning abdominal perforator surgery for breast reconstruction in patients who have undergone mastectomy.

Subjects And Methods: One hundred twenty-six consecutive patients scheduled for postmastectomy breast reconstruction using deep inferior epigastric perforator flaps underwent MDCT. The images were evaluated to identify, characterize, and map the dominant musculocutaneous perforator vessels of the deep inferior epigastric artery.

A preoperative abdominal wall study was conducted using a multidetector scanner in 162 women who had undergone breast reconstruction with abdominal perforator flaps. A map of the abdominal perforator vessels dependent on the deep inferior epigastric artery was created. In the first 36 cases, anatomic dissection of all perforators was performed during surgery.

The patient presented here is a 30-year-old woman who underwent anterior resection for the initial treatment of rectal cancer. A postoperative study showed a single liver metastasis. The patient received adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy with concomitant 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) treatment followed by liver metastasectomy 6 weeks after the completion of radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in women in the US, diagnosis during pregnancy is rare and has been reported 34 times. We report a case of a 34-year-old woman with stage III locally advanced lung cancer diagnosed during the 27th week of pregnancy. Chest X-ray and thorax MRI revealed a 9cmx7cm mass in the upper right lung lobe.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), also known as the mandibular joint, is an ellipsoid variety of the right and left synovial joints forming a bicondylar articulation. The common features of the synovial joints exhibited by this joint include a fibrous capsule, a disk, synovial membrane, fluid, and tough adjacent ligaments. Not only is the mandible a single bone but the cranium is also mechanically a single stable component; therefore, the correct terminology for the joint is the craniomandibular articulation.

Background: The leg and peripatellar region have always been known as a poor source of available flaps. One flap donor site that has proven to be adequate is the distal anteromedial half of the thigh. Due to the potential and plentiful vascular sources of this anatomic region we decided to study the distal anteromedial thigh and its clinical applications.

An accurate preoperative evaluation of the vascular anatomy of the abdominal wall is extremely valuable in improving the surgical strategy in abdominal perforator flaps. The multidetector-row computer tomography offers thin slice coverage of extended volumes with an extremely high spatial resolution. From October 2003 to December 2004, 66 female patients had breast reconstruction surgery in our department using the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap.
