Wound dressings made from natural-derived polymers are highly valued for their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and biofunctionality. However, natural polymer-based hydrogels can come with their own set of limitations, such as low mechanical strength, limited cell affinity, and the potential cytotoxicity of cross-linkers, which delineate the boundaries of their usage and hamper their practical application. To overcome the limitation of natural-derived polymers, this study utilized a mixture of oxidized alginate and gelatin with 5 mg/mL polycaprolactone (PCL):gelatin nanofiber fragments at a ratio of 7:3 (OGN-7) to develop a hydrogel composite wound dressing that can be injected and has the ability to be remended.

Objectives: The World Health Organization named Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (SM) a critical multi-drug resistant threat, necessitating rapid diagnostic strategies. Traditional culturing methods require up to 96 h, including 72 h for bacterial growth, identification with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) through protein profile analysis, and 24 h for antibiotic susceptibility testing. In this study, we aimed at developing an artificial intelligence-clinical decision support system (AI-CDSS) by integrating MALDI-TOF MS and machine learning to quickly identify levofloxacin and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole resistance in SM, optimizing treatment decisions.

This study marks the first utilization of reverse vaccinology to develop recombinant subunit vaccines against Pseudomonas koreensis infection in Empurau (Tor tambroides). The proteome (5538 proteins) was screened against various filters to prioritize proteins based on features that are associated with virulence, subcellular localization, transmembrane helical structure, antigenicity, essentiality, non-homology with the host proteome, molecular weight, and stability, which led to the identification of eight potential vaccine candidates. These potential vaccine candidates were cloned and expressed, with six achieving successful expression and purification.
