Methods: We assembled a prospective cohort of children aged 1 to 21 years with Lyme disease who presented to one of eight participating Pedi Lyme Net centers between 2015 and 2023.

Background: Incorporating scratch-cooked, organic, and locally grown foods into school meal programs can enhance meal quality and support local food systems.

Methods: 430 California school food authorities were surveyed to (1) evaluate their use of scratch-cooked, organic, and locally grown foods in their programs; (2) identify demographic and operational characteristics related to this use; and (3) analyze the relationship between serving more of these foods and perceived barriers to student meal participation. Poisson and logistic regression models, adjusted for SFAs' demographic characteristics, were used.

Nurses are often very keen to discuss innovations occurring on the front lines of care delivery. The development of the Nursing Retention Toolkit was directly informed by nurses from across the country to ensure that diverse perspectives were reflected in reconsidering the way in which we value nursing work (Health Canada 2024).

Transperineal prostate biopsy is becoming a popular approach in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Urethral bleeding and urinary retention are the most common complications. We report a case of intraperitoneal bleeding after transperineal prostate biopsy in a patient with history of focal therapy for prostate cancer.

Household Food Insecurity Is Associated with Parental Perceptions of and Student Participation in School Meals.

Background/objectives: School meals are an important source of nutrition for children and have been found to help mitigate food insecurity. This study evaluated the association between food insecurity and school meal participation and whether parental perceptions about school meals differ by food security status.

Methods: In May 2022, 1110 Californian parents of K-12 students shared their perceptions about school meals, including meal quality, healthiness, stigma, and benefits, as well as their child's participation in school meals, in an online survey.

Deforestation can increase light penetration and runoff entering adjacent freshwaters leading to increased average water temperature, stronger diel temperature fluctuations, and increased water turbidity. Changes in temperature extremes (particularly upper peaks) are important for fishes as their body temperature and rate of oxygen consumption varies with environmental temperature. Here, we compare effects of diel-fluctuating versus stable water temperature regimes on the behaviour and upper thermal tolerance (measured as Critical Thermal Maximum, CT) of the Bluntnose Minnow, Pimephales notatus.

Background: In the United States, a means-tested approach is often used to provide free or reduced-price meals (FRPM) to students from lower-income households. We explored independent and interactive effects of sedimentary turbidity and temperature on the swimming activity and both thermal and hypoxia tolerance of the Pugnose Shiner (, formerly ), a small leuciscid fish listed as Threatened under Canada's Species at Risk Act (SARA).

Genome-based taxonomic analysis of the genus Pseudoalteromonas reveals heterotypic synonyms.

The Pseudoalteromonas genus comprises members that have been demonstrated to play significant ecological roles and produce enzymes, natural products, and activities that are beneficial to the environment and economy. A comprehensive evaluation of the genus revealed that the genomes of several Pseudoalteromonas species are highly similar to each other, exceeding species cutoff values. This evaluation involved determining and comparing the average nucleotide identity, in silico DNA-DNA hybridization, average amino acid identity, and the difference in G + C% between Pseudoalteromonas type strains with publicly available genomes.

Effects of acute hypoxia exposure and acclimation on the thermal tolerance of an imperiled Canadian minnow.

Elevated water temperatures and low dissolved oxygen (hypoxia) are pervasive stressors in aquatic systems that can be exacerbated by climate change and anthropogenic activities, and there is growing interest in their interactive effects. To explore this interaction, we quantified the effects of acute and long-term hypoxia exposure on the critical thermal maximum (CT) of Redside Dace (Clinostomus elongatus), a small-bodied freshwater minnow with sparse populations in the Great Lakes Basin of Canada and designated as Endangered under Canada's Species at Risk Act. Fish were held at 18°C and acclimated to four levels of dissolved oxygen (>90%, 60%, 40%, and 20% air saturation).

Exploring the psychosocial burden of foot complications in diabetes: A cross-sectional survey and qualitative interview study in a United Kingdom coastal community.

Background: Foot complications in diabetes are common and destructive, resulting in substantial healthcare costs and high rates of morbidity. Coastal areas have a significantly higher burden of disease. People with diabetes experience disproportionately high rates of psychological health issues, including anxiety, depression and diabetes distress.

The role of phenotypic plasticity during colonization remains unclear due to the shifting importance of plasticity across timescales. In the early stages of colonization, plasticity can facilitate persistence in a novel environment; but over evolutionary time, processes such as genetic assimilation may reduce variation in plastic traits such that species with a longer evolutionary history in an environment can show lower levels of plasticity than recent invaders. Therefore, comparing species in the early stages of colonization to long-established species provides a powerful approach for uncovering the role of phenotypic plasticity during different stages of colonization.

Parental perceptions of school meals can affect student participation and overall support for school meal policies. Little is known about parental school meal perceptions under universal free school meals (UFSM) policies. We assessed California parents' perceptions of school meals during the COVID-19 emergency response with federally funded UFSM and whether perceptions differed by race/ethnicity.

Background And Objectives: Vein of Galen malformation (VOGM), the result of arteriovenous shunting between choroidal and/or subependymal arteries and the embryologic prosencephalic vein, is among the most severe cerebrovascular disorders of childhood. We hypothesized that in situ analysis of the VOGM lesion using endoluminal tissue sampling (ETS) is feasible and may advance our understanding of VOGM genetics, pathogenesis, and maintenance.

Many individuals with Persistent Tic Disorders experience peer rejection, loneliness, and self-stigma. Experiencing stigmatization during childhood can influence the persistence of moderate-to-severe tics later in life.
