Introduction: Inferior or subacromial dislocation of the distal clavicle is a rare entity. Previous reports of this injury pattern have largely been limited to Rockwood VI acromioclavicular joint (AC) dislocations, with the distal clavicle located in the subcoracoid position. Few case reports have been described with the inferior clavicle being located in the subacromial space, and these have all been previously associated with clavicle fractures.

Physical exercise is a cornerstone for preventing diet-induced obesity, while it is unclear whether physical exercise could offset high-fat, high-calories diet (HFCD)-induced cardiac dysfunction. Here, mice were fed with HFCD and simultaneously subjected to physical exercise. As expected, physical exercise prevented HFCD-induced whole-body fat deposition.

Chitosan (CS) is a versatile polysaccharide with numerous inherent biological activity, while the lack of amphiphilicity limits its application in emulsion-based systems. In this study, erythorbyl myristate (EM) with interfacial activity was chemically modified to 5-O-succinyl EM (EMS) and grafted onto CS to improve the emulsifying properties. The grafting reaction was conducted by the catalysis of protease, with the progress of the reaction monitored by HPLC analysis and UV absorbance measurement.

Background: Mixed exhaled air has been widely used to determine exhaled propofol concentrations with online analyzers, but changes in dead space proportions may lead to inaccurate assessments of critical drug concentration data. This study proposes a method to correct propofol concentration in mixed air by estimating pulmonary dead space through reconstructing volumetric capnography (Vcap) from time-CO and time-volume curves, validated with vacuum ultraviolet time-of-flight mass spectrometry (VUV-TOF MS).

Methods: Existing monitoring parameters, including time-volume and time-CO curves, were used to determine Vcap.

Background: Lipoxygenases (LOXs) are key enzymes in the unsaturated fatty acid oxidation reaction pathway and play an important regulatory role in the synthesis of fruit aroma volatiles.

Methods: gene family members were identified in the whole genome database of bitter gourd and analyzed bioinformatically. An RT-qPCR was used to analyze the expression differences in different tissues.

Background: COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have demonstrated 95 % efficacy in the general population. However, their immunogenicity in adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), who exhibit weaken immune responses, remains insufficiently explored.

Methods: Longitudinal analysis of innate immune responses following PRR-agonists and BNT162b2 vaccine stimulations, along with S-specific antibody responses, memory T cell recall responses, and RNA-sequencing were assessed in eight T1D adolescents and 16 healthy controls at six different timepoints.

Propofol, a widely used intravenous anesthetic agent, requires accurate monitoring to ensure therapeutic efficacy and prevent oversedation. Recent developments in modern analytical instrumentation have led to significant breakthroughs in on-line analysis of exhaled breath. This review discusses several sophisticated analytical methods that have been explored for noninvasive, real-time monitoring of propofol concentrations, including proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry, and gas chromatography coupled to surface acoustic wave sensors.

Background: Radical cystectomy (RC) combined with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is the standard treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). For metastatic MIBC patients, platinum-based chemotherapy remains the first choice treatment. However, approximately 50% of patients with metastatic MIBC are ineligible for platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy because of impaired renal function.

Over the past decades, bacterial infections resulting from the misuse of antibiotics have garnered significant attention. Among the alternative antibacterial strategies, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising non-antibiotic approach. However, persistent bacterial biofilms, particularly those composed of gram-negative bacteria with their protective outer membranes, have exhibited remarkable resilience to PDT.

Infectious intestinal diseases (IIDs) pose a significant health and economic burden worldwide. Recent observations at the Tri-Service General Hospital, Taiwan, suggest a potential association between IIDs and neurodegenerative diseases, prompting an investigation into this relationship. This study explored interactions between IIDs and neurodegenerative diseases.

Background: Telehealth programs and wearable sensors that enable patients to monitor their vital signs have expanded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The electronic National Early Warning Score (e-NEWS) system helps identify and respond to acute illness.

Objective: This study aimed to implement and evaluate a comprehensive telehealth system to monitor vital signs using e-NEWS for patients receiving integrated home-based medical care (iHBMC).

Objective: Post-irradiation sinonasal mucosa disease (SMD) is observed in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with radiotherapy (RT), leading to a detrimental impact on quality of life. This study aimed to assess the incidence, severity, and regression of the post-irradiation SMD among patients with NPC treated with proton therapy.

Methods: NPC patients treated with proton therapy were retrospectively enrolled.

We present here a newly developed software tool (called PGMweb) for computing and simulating the X-ray beam path through a plane grating monochromator (PGM), a key component in soft X-ray beamlines at modern synchrotron and free-electron laser facilities. A historical overview of the development of PGMs is presented, with special attention dedicated to the collimated PGM optical scheme found at several X-ray facilities worldwide. The analytical expressions that fully describe the geometry of a PGM are derived and have been implemented as functions in a Python library (pyplanemono).

Aim: To establish an animal model of form deprivation amblyopia based on a simulated cataract intraocular lens (IOLs).

Methods: Poly(dimethyl siloxane)-SiO thin films (PSF) with different degrees of opacity as IOL materials were prepared. The light transmission of the PSF-IOL was measured, and its biosafety was determined by cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assay using the HLEC-B3 cell line and ARPE-19 cell line.

Aim: To present a technique of transcapsular scleral fixation of the standard capsular tension ring (CTR) through equatorial capsulotomy and in-the-bag intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in subluxated lenses.

Methods: This retrospective consecutive case series included patients with subluxated lenses by more than 180 degrees who underwent lens extraction, transcapsular scleral fixation of the standard CTR through equatorial capsulotomy, in-the-bag IOL implantation and with at least 6mo follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), complications, and postoperative IOL tilt and decentration were recorded.

Components needed in Artificial Intelligence with a higher information capacity are critically needed and have garnered significant attention at the forefront of information technology. This study utilizes solution-processed zinc-tin oxide (ZTO) thin-film phototransistors and modulates the values of , which allows for the regulation of electron trapping/detrapping at the ZTO/SiO interface. By coupling the excited photonic carrier and electronic trapping, logic gates such as "AND," "OR," "NAND," and "NOR" can be achieved.
