Prior research has indicated that the gut-lung-axis can be influenced by the intestinal microbiota, thereby impacting lung immunity. Rifaximin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug that can maintain the homeostasis of intestinal microflora. In this study, we established an influenza A virus (IAV)-infected mice model with or without rifaximin supplementation to investigate whether rifaximin could ameliorate lung injury induced by IAV and explore the molecular mechanism involved.

Objective: Based on magnetic anchor-guided endoscopic submucosal dissection (MAG-ESD), we would like to explore the feasibility of magnetic hydrogel as an internal magnetic anchor that can be injected into the submucosa through an endoscopic needle to assist colonic endoscopic submucosal dissection.
Background: The National Health Service (NHS) in England has set a target to be net zero for carbon emissions by 2045. The aim of this study was to investigate the estimated difference between the carbon footprint of the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) High Volume Low Complexity (HVLC) pathway for cataract surgery and current practice.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of administrative data.
Influenza viruses pose a threat to public health as evidenced by severe morbidity and mortality in humans on a yearly basis. Given the constant changes in the viral glycoproteins owing to antigenic drift, seasonal influenza vaccines need to be updated periodically and effectiveness often drops due to mismatches between vaccine and circulating strains. In addition, seasonal influenza vaccines are not protective against antigenically shifted influenza viruses with pandemic potential.

Cellular processes are controlled by the thermodynamics of the underlying biomolecular interactions. Frequently, structural investigations use one monomeric binding partner, while ensemble measurements of binding affinities generally yield one affinity representative of a 1:1 interaction, despite the majority of the proteome consisting of oligomeric proteins. For example, viral entry and inhibition in SARS-CoV-2 involve a trimeric spike surface protein, a dimeric angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) cell-surface receptor and dimeric antibodies.

Ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) in high-valent metal complexes often triggers bond homolysis, generating oxidized ligand-centered radicals and reduced metal centers. While photoinduced oxidative activations can be enabled, this process, typically seen as photochemical decomposition, remains underexplored in catalytic applications.

This review aimed to compile and analyze outbreak preparedness and response strategies, highlighting the success of coordinated multi-sectoral approaches and policy responses within the ASEAN region.
Methods: The protocol for this review was registered on the Open Science Framework and PROSPERO.

Background: The Precancerous Lesion of Gastric Cancer (PLGC) is an early stage in the development of gastric cancer. The clinical application of HPXLD has been found to be effective in treating PLGC, but the mechanism of how HPXLD acts on PLGC is still unclear.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to reveal the molecular mechanism of how HPXLD can be used to treat PLGC and investigate this mechanism through bioinformatics and experimental validation.
Objective: Identifying the drive genes and inhibiting their significant signals were persistently the main concepts in cancer treatment. However, for oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), the most influential genes for overall survival (OS) remain unclear.
Methods: A total of 120 OCSCC patients with corresponding pathologic specimens were collected in Taiwan.
Zein-based films exhibit high efficiency in ethylene adsorption. However, its brittleness limits the practical applications. To address this issue, this study synergizes the plasticizing effects of high-intensity ultrasound (HIU) and castor oil (CO) to reduce the brittleness of zein-based films.

However, lactylation-related genes (LRGs) have been found to have limited value in predicting the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this study was to review HCC LRGs using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 340 patients undergoing hemodialysis. Lean mass and body fat were determined using a bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) device and expressed as the lean tissue index (LTI) or fat tissue index (FTI), respectively.
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) play a crucial role in mediating Amyloid-β (Aβ) synaptotoxicity. Our previous studies have demonstrated an opposite (neuroprotection and neurotoxicity) effect of activating astrocytic and neuronal NMDARs with higher dose (10 μM) of NMDA, an agonist of NMDARs. By contrast, activating neuronal or astrocyitc NMDARs with lower dose (1 μM) of NMDA both exerts neuroprotective effect in Aβ-induced neurotoxicity.

Nevertheless, simultaneous detection of multiple EVs markers still presents significant technical challenges. In this work, we developed a high-throughput microdroplet-enhanced chip (MEC) platform, which utilizes thousands of individual microchambers (∼pL) as reactors, accelerating the detection efficiency of the CRISPR/Cas systems and increasing the sensitivity by up to 100-fold (aM level).

The growing concern over low-frequency noise pollution resulting from global industrialization has posed substantial challenges in noise attenuation. However, conventional acoustic metamaterials, with fixed geometries, offer limited flexibility in the frequency range adjustment once constructed. This research unveiled the promising potential of ionic electroactive polymers, particularly ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMCs), as a superior candidate to design tunable acoustic metamaterial due to its bidirectional energy conversion capabilities.

Background And Aim: Muscular atrophy is one of the most common age-related conditions characterized by the deterioration of skeletal muscle structures and impaired functions. It is associated with cellular senescence and chronic inflammation, which impair the function of muscle stem cells. Bazi Bushen (BZBS) is a patent compound Chinese medicine that has been shown to have anti-aging effects in various animal models.

CD is highly heterogeneous, classified into unicentric Castleman disease (UCD) and multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) based on lesion distribution, and further categorized into three pathological types: hyaline vascular type (HV), plasma cell type (PC), and mixed type (Mix). This paper describes a rare case of solitary mediastinal Castleman disease with transparent vessels in the anterior sacrum, presenting as the HV type.
