Endothelial Glycocalyx Shedding Occurs during Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion: A Pilot Study.

Background: Damage to the endothelium has been established as a key pathological process in lung transplantation and ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP), a new technology that provides a platform for the assessment of injured donor lungs. Damage to the lung endothelial glycocalyx, a structure that lines the endothelium and is integral to vascular barrier function, has been associated with lung dysfunction. We hypothesised that endothelial glycocalyx shedding occurs during EVLP and aimed to establish a porcine model to investigate the mechanism underlying glycocalyx breakdown during EVLP.

The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) is one of the thematic networks of the United States' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Prevention Research Centers. Network members are academic research centers in the United States who collaborate with public health and community partners to accelerate the use of evidence-based interventions in communities to reduce the burden of cancer, especially among underserved populations. CPCRN studies include geographically dispersed populations, cross-institution partnerships, and opportunities for collaborative learning across network centers.

Young People Seeking Help Online for Mental Health: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

Background: Young people are particularly vulnerable to experiencing mental health difficulties, but very few seek treatment or help during this time. Online help-seeking may offer an additional domain where young people can seek aid for mental health difficulties, yet our current understanding of how young people seek help online is limited.

Objective: This was an exploratory study which aimed to investigate the online help-seeking behaviors and preferences of young people.

Capacity-building and training opportunities for implementation science in mental health.

This article traces efforts over the past decade by the National Institute of Mental Health, of the US National Institutes of Health, and other US organizations to build capacity for mental health researchers to advance activities in implementation science. Authors briefly chronicle the antecedents to the field's growth, and describe funding opportunities, workshop and conferences, training programs, and other initiatives that have collectively engaged hundreds of mental health researchers in the development and execution of implementation studies across the breadth of contexts where mental health care and prevention programs are delivered to those in need. The authors summarize a number of key initiatives and present potential next steps to further build the capacity for a new generation of implementation studies in mental health.

Interestingly, a growing body of evidence also points towards the prevalence of aberrant Na expression in malignant tumors, potentially opening a new therapeutic window. In this study, the transcriptional consequences of channel inhibition were investigated in non-small cell lung carcinoma H460 and neuroblastoma SH-SYSY cell lines, that both express Na1.

Beyond Public Health Genomics: Can Big Data and Predictive Analytics Deliver Precision Public Health?

The field of public health genomics has matured in the past two decades and is beginning to deliver genomic-based interventions for health and health care. In the past few years, the terms precision medicine and precision public health have been used to include information from multiple fields measuring biomarkers as well as environmental and other variables to provide tailored interventions. In the context of public health, "precision" implies delivering the right intervention to the right population at the right time, with the goal of improving health for all.
